To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

I was shocked at the library scene leading to a threesome.

The mocking of Christians in the last supper scene.

The feminization of males & the sheer number of transvestites on parade. And a child thrown in the midst of them.

This is a sporting event, why the need to have it so highly sexulaised? My dc were thankfully howling with laughter at parts "the smurf man" singing (complete with his painted bulge) had us all in stitches.

I feel there was a social conditioning agenda to the opening ceremony & it was completely inappropriate given that it is for family viewing. Sexulaised behaviour should not be displayed to children.

OP, do you know what 'woke' means?

taylorswift1989 · 27/07/2024 06:46

Sounds utterly grim. Glad I missed it.

LBFseBrom · 27/07/2024 06:53

I haven't seen it. I will watch it now!

blueberryforest · 27/07/2024 06:53

I didn't see it because I've come to the point that I no longer care about the Olympics as a whole and choose not to support or engage with it any longer, but it's not surprising they chose to take it in that direction. (And that's part of why I don't bother with it, these days. It's a shame, though, that they can't at least try to keep it family-friendly.)

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/07/2024 06:54

It followed the law of all Olympic ceremonies

Some boring stuff

A lot of cultural references that only really made sense to the host country.

Lots of fire and lights.

A few wow moments

Some rather disappointing dancers

Something rather tame that inexplicably enrages mad right wing twats on Twitter.

Basically 50% dull stuff, 40% batshit stuff, 10% fireworks. Standard.

leafybrew · 27/07/2024 06:57

I loved the dancers and music - that was the best bit!

Thankfully I don't wear pearls, so had nothing to clutch Grin

Whilst these things may be French, I’m sure the threesome scene isn’t appropriate for French children either. I’m fine for adults to watch these themes, but not children and this has always been for all ages. Let’s keep sex out of sport and let’s keep it for people of all ages, backgrounds and religions. If they wanted this sort of woke ceremony I wish there was a disclaimer at the start/ beforehand and I wouldn’t have watched it with my kids

No no, the French are all over children watching threesoms. 👌😬

It was depicting the last supper & Smurf man had a very noticeable blue todger bulge.

I couldn't stop giggling. It was typical French, bizarre, random stuff. We don't get it at all.

Yes, it was disgusting. Unexpected though, but disgusting.

LuluBlakey1 · 27/07/2024 07:03

Apparently, this is what the naked blue Dionysus represented.

To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?
Mrsdyna · 27/07/2024 07:06

It was disgusting!

You were upset a French thing was a bit sexy? Have you met the French?

I mean it was a few drag queens and some kissing, it was hardly Caligula.

This.

mellongoose · 27/07/2024 07:08

We called him 'Salad Man' (we are not experts!).

My highlights were the dancers near the start who were splashing about in the water, robo-horse and the balloon.

My 9yo didn't worry about library kissing or the like. Most of this stuff goes over kids' heads.

The last supper thing was just a bit unnecessary. They can showcase French talent without needing to start a religious bun fight.

MalePoster9000 · 27/07/2024 06:32

Quelle surprise - the ceremony mocked Christianity, but didn’t go anywhere near Islam.

France is a secular country with a history of mocking religions !
Charlie Hebdo anyone ? Funny how “Christians” only ever mention Islam in these arguments and never any other religions!!

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 27/07/2024 07:11

Why would the library scene need a warning?! It wasn't exactly explicit content.

TooTiredOfThisShit · 27/07/2024 07:12

Not my cup of tea, but I didn't find it outrageous or shocking, just interminably dull.

It was about as avant guarde as eurotrash circa 2001.

NerrSnerr · 27/07/2024 07:13

I watched it with my two children who are 9 and 7. The library kissing was fine, of course any idea of a threesome went over their head, it was just a bit of kissing to them.

On the whole I enjoyed it- it was a bit slow at times but it's always worth it for checking out the athletes outfits and seeing who they have on the end of the torch relay.

I loved the dancing and music and it was worth it to see Celine looking so well.

Sunnnybunny72 · 27/07/2024 07:14

Le shite.

TidyDancer · 27/07/2024 07:16

It was definitely inappropriate in places but mostly it was just bizarre. I'm sure lots of countries felt that about our 2012 opening ceremony because there will always be some cultural references that only make sense to the host but Paris was generally quite disjointed and a bit blah. It was nice they tried to do something different but they didn't pull it off as the majority of it was so dull and lacking in atmosphere. It was easily the worst opening ceremony I can remember seeing.

Mumsie23 · 27/07/2024 07:16

Western society is self-destructing. Without laws on decency, humans descend into depravity. There have always been variations in sexuality and it is much healthier to accept that. However the current obsession with gender is very unhealthy and to use it as part of a sporting event is wholly inappropriate. It was tasteless and demeaning.

ebadame · 27/07/2024 07:17

It's up to you. They are your children. If you weren't happy with it you could have stopped it at any point

Jugglingarsehole · 27/07/2024 07:20

Why does sex have to be shoved into everything? I don’t want people in lingerie clutching at themselves during an Olympic opening ceremony. I don’t want scantily clad people gyrating with small children. I don’t think it makes me right wing to think a family show should have family content.

Itsmychristmasdress · 27/07/2024 07:23

There is more sex on in soaps in daytime tv. They were just people kissing. Paris city of love? City of romance?
