The post person entered my house.

I've just seen it on my Ring doorbell.

17yr old DD had left the door unlocked for her friend so she didn't have to come down to let them in. Not uncommon.

Post arrived, including a parcel, during this time. When no one answered the door, the post person tried the handle, opened up the door and came into my home.

Granted, DD shouldn't have left the door unlocked, but it doesn't make what the post person did ok.

Just me who thinks it was completely unreasonable for them to have even tried the handle?!

im skeptical

IroningThrone · 30/06/2024 16:14

Good lord, they did you a favour leaving your parcel. It's not like this shit on your bed.

And post person? 🤔🙄

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:14

where did he leave? when you say came in… how far in?

Kelly51 · 30/06/2024 16:15

Did they just open door and put parcel in or actually walk inside into a room?

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:15

i wonder if DD had left a note for friend saying just let yourself in

but she’s not telling you that!!

Februaryfeels · 30/06/2024 16:15

A post person? Like a postie but posher?

AlfrescoPotato · 30/06/2024 16:15

Did they come upstairs and put it in your knicker drawer? Or, as I suspect, pop it inside the doorway? Good grief.

jellybe · 30/06/2024 16:15

Entered or opened the door placed package in and shut it and left again?

If they came in had a look around, eat your food. Etc then not okay.

Opened door left package inside then left absolutely fine. Our postie does it all the time for us.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/06/2024 16:15

Where in the house are did they put the parcel?

BlueMum16 · 30/06/2024 16:15

It's a common occurrence here now for Amazon. They are just so rushed and want to drop and go.

Lokshen · 30/06/2024 16:15

Ours always leaves the parcels inside and then closes the door again. Love it.

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 30/06/2024 16:16

Trying the handle (and there’s a ring camera), instant loss of job. I’m not sure i believe this sorry!

Killerqueenie · 30/06/2024 16:16

We have had the same postie for years and he never bothers us by ringing the bell, if the door is unlocked he will just open it and put the parcel inside. I have no issue with this at all.

fieldsofbutterflies · 30/06/2024 16:16

It's normal, ours do it all the time.

RebelMoon · 30/06/2024 16:17

Meh, our posties do this all the time. If we're out they put the post in the shed.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 30/06/2024 16:18

Better than driving to the Royal Mail depot to collect, or wait for re-delivery. Postie didn’t make himself a cup of tea, he opened your unlocked door a few inches.

CosFuckThatGuy · 30/06/2024 16:19

Doesn't bother me at all, better to stick it inside the door than leave it outside.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 30/06/2024 16:19

there's a lot of detail missing from your account.
they turned the handle and opened the door.
did they actually step inside, or just place the parcel inside?
how long were they inside your doorway for?

if they spent minutes nosing around your house that would be unacceptable. and it would be worth reporting them.

if all they did was open the door, come in and put the parcel down on a table or shelf inside the doorway, you should be grateful:
(a) that they left it somewhere quite safe <you've read the threads about people having parcels nicked cos the delivery person's dumped them on the pavement outside their house or in their garden?!>
(b) this incident has highlighted the stupidity of you or your DD leaving your front door unlocked, if you don't want strangers to let themselves in to your house whenever they feel like it ? what if this had been an opportunist burglar/ rapist/ stalker?!

MasterBeth · 30/06/2024 16:22

This sort of thing turns up on Mumsnet all the time.

Turns out to be perfectly normal in areas where the nearest neighbour is half a mile away and you've known the postie (it's always the same one) since nursery school.

I find it totally bizarre, but that's because I find it completely mad that anyone would leave their doors unlocked so that anyone - not just the postman - could JUST WALK IN!

allaboardtheplaybus · 30/06/2024 16:22

Our postman has opened our front door to drop a parcel in the hall before when I haven't answered the door, didn't bother me.

i have a feeling the op won’t be back

DrRiverSong · 30/06/2024 16:26

Ours does this. Our evri driver, who I’m on first name terms with, does this. It’s not particularly shocking. Would you prefer your parcel to be left with a neighbour or to have to collect it?

Beautifulbythebay · 30/06/2024 16:27

We had our local fresh fish supplier deliver us 10 cod portions in April for Good Friday.. Order message said to leave in the porch..
Smart arsed delivery person opened the porch door into the house and left it in the hallway...
Came home to an empty box..
And a very full ddog..
They hand delivered 10 more pieces the next day.

Socksey · 30/06/2024 16:27

So postie knocked etc and got no answer and tried door, it was unlocked so they opened it and left parcel inside?
Or
Postie just tried door and barged their way into tge living room ?
