The post person entered my house.

I've just seen it on my Ring doorbell.

17yr old DD had left the door unlocked for her friend so she didn't have to come down to let them in. Not uncommon.

Post arrived, including a parcel, during this time. When no one answered the door, the post person tried the handle, opened up the door and came into my home.

Granted, DD shouldn't have left the door unlocked, but it doesn't make what the post person did ok.

Just me who thinks it was completely unreasonable for them to have even tried the handle?!

My postie does this but I'm secretly a little bit in love with him as he's a right legend

Globules · 30/06/2024 16:29

Trying the handle (and there’s a ring camera), instant loss of job. I’m not sure i believe this sorry!

The shed is left unlocked for this very reason. They didn't even try the shed door, just went straight into my home.

i wonder if DD had left a note for friend saying just let yourself in

but she’s not telling you that!!

She texted them. No need for a note on the door in this day and age.

OP posts:
magnoliablooms · 30/06/2024 16:31

Can you tell from that if your DD spoke to him?

NewName24 · 30/06/2024 16:31

YABU.
Most people that are comfortable enough where they live to be able to leave the door unlocked, would be extremely grateful that a postie or any other parcel delivery service were willing to drop a parcel in their hallway rather than have the frustration of having to pick it up from somewhere or wait until they will deliver again.
If you hate the thought of anyone putting something in your hall whilst you aren't there, then do what most of us do and keep your front door locked.

magnoliablooms · 30/06/2024 16:31

What's your recorded safe place on the Royal mail app? Have you set one?

bipbopdo · 30/06/2024 16:31

This happens all the time at ours. They’ll leave the parcel in the porch. Happens more with Amazon drivers though

daffodilandtulip · 30/06/2024 16:31

Even if you'd been burgled, the police/insurance would say you should have locked your door, so I don't think you have a complaint really.

I'd rather that than the "chuck at the doormat and run" method that other couriers, ahem Evri, favour.

MasterBeth · 30/06/2024 16:31

DrRiverSong · 30/06/2024 16:26

Ours does this. Our evri driver, who I’m on first name terms with, does this. It’s not particularly shocking. Would you prefer your parcel to be left with a neighbour or to have to collect it?

Edited

Yes! Than have someone walk uninvited into my house?! Yes!

But a) I would answer the door when they rang and b) I would never leave my door unlocked because then ANYONE COULD JUST COME INTO MY HOUSE.

She didn't speak to him, no.

let’s see the footage then? 🤷

In the porch is categorically different to in the house.

Yup.

It's the shed 😉

had the friend already arrived?

Yup.

But your porch was open, so why can't he just leave it there? Confused

If you don't want people walking into your house, lock your door!

In the porch is categorically different to in the house.

Not if the inner door is open (which it often is), it’s fundamentally the same thing at that point imo

Fiery30 · 30/06/2024 16:35

To me that is very odd, specially as the safe place is the shed. It doesn't matter whether other people think it's ok. If you dont, then that is quite acceptable in this situation. I would report the incident to Royal Mail.

I don't have a porch.

unlocked home
unlocked shed
have you ever been burgled op?

Then unless your house looks like a shed I would complain. He has done your daughter a favour by highlighting that anyone could have walked in but still. They should be respecting the safe space.

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:36

i’d love to see the footage as…. i suspect not nearly as clear cut

Yes, OK, but WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE BOTH YOUR DOORS UNLOCKED WHEN ANYONE COULD JUST COME INTO YOUR HOUSE?

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:37

the shed is by your front door?

or in your back garden?
