The post person entered my house.

I've just seen it on my Ring doorbell.

17yr old DD had left the door unlocked for her friend so she didn't have to come down to let them in. Not uncommon.

Post arrived, including a parcel, during this time. When no one answered the door, the post person tried the handle, opened up the door and came into my home.

Granted, DD shouldn't have left the door unlocked, but it doesn't make what the post person did ok.

Just me who thinks it was completely unreasonable for them to have even tried the handle?!

Are you ok there my dear? You appear to have a bit of a shouty problem and certainly seem rather angry.

Shall I order you some cough drops and a yoga mat for Royal Mail to deliver to your home?

How patronising

I really cannot see the issue. Delivery people always try my door first, if its unlocked they put it in if not they put it to the shed. They're not coming right in, having a nose about, getting a drink...they're delivering a parcel, no big deal

What a shame there is no simple fix to people entering your house without your permission. Why oh why can't 21st century science invent some kind of technology that could solve this problem? I guess we are all at the mercy of any prowlers, thieves and worse who choose to walk into our homes and there is sweet F.A. we can do about it.

😂

I do love a rollicking good sarcy response! 😆

You were in the garden while your children were in the house. Why didn't you lock your door. You do usually get a message to let you know when it will be delivered.

Yes I was in the garden but we had all the double doors open, it’s quite open plan so I wasn’t far away and could literally just step into my living room, I’d just finished putting the laundry out and my children are teens so they were fine.
I don't lock my front door when I’m home, I live very rurally so no close by neighbours and not a lot of traffic, also I didn’t know a delivery was due as it was for my husband and he didn’t tell me as usually they just leave it outside the door.

I also had this happen last week! They didn't just put it inside the door in the hallway though, they decided to go through the hallway, into the lounge and leave it on the other side of the room next to the TV cabinet. The front door being unlocked is irrelevant, there was no sign saying "strangers enter". I have a teenage daughter who is frequently home alone and would lose her mind if a man entered the house unannounced, and 2 children under 3 who are often playing in the lounge if I'm doing dishes next door or hanging out washing in the garden. Btw I know it's a man because of the neighbours cctv. I have elderly neighbours who have always taken my parcels if no one is home, their front door is 3 meters from mine and several bins to the side of my house that posties often leaves parcels in. There is absolutely no reason for anyone who doesn't live in my house to enter uninvited!

That is why I lock my doors even when home. People who live in a rural setting get opportunist's thief too. In any case locking doors would put a stop to any random person entering your home.

If you reported him most likely you would have a moody postman. But it won't stop the next postman from doing similar to him regardless of the rules.

Oldish thread I know but why wouldn't you answer the question of what he did after opening the door ? Presume he left parcel and went again.
Mine used to do this all the time quick knock and if no answer open the door and leave the parcel, did think it a little cheeky tbh. Has stopped now though and uses the unlocked shed in the porch, not sure why he didn't do this before
