The post person entered my house.

I've just seen it on my Ring doorbell.

17yr old DD had left the door unlocked for her friend so she didn't have to come down to let them in. Not uncommon.

Post arrived, including a parcel, during this time. When no one answered the door, the post person tried the handle, opened up the door and came into my home.

Granted, DD shouldn't have left the door unlocked, but it doesn't make what the post person did ok.

Just me who thinks it was completely unreasonable for them to have even tried the handle?!

No you are not unreasonable to not expect someone to just open your door and walk into your home.

Sometimes I think Jesus could post on here and he'd be told he was unreasonable to only provide loaves and fishes and entitled to expect people to be respectful in a temple. 🤣

Wontletmeusemynormalname · 30/06/2024 16:46

So did he actually come in or just open the door and put the parcel down, this mass hysteria is laughable.

Really? People like to steal stuff while people are in the upstairs of the house or watching TV or whatever.

Genuinely. Sometimes we even leave the front door(s) fully open on hot days to get a cross breeze. The chances of something bad happening are so much less than things being totally fine. I’m very relaxed about it

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:48

in interested why this happened yesterday afternoon

and for some reason you’re checking footage now?

iamtheblcksheep · 30/06/2024 16:49

You lost any sympathy I may of had for you at postperson. FFS. It’s clearly a man, even from his arm. Say man for the love of god.

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:49

i’d wager your dd left the door open / ajar OP

Arlanymor · 30/06/2024 16:50

Depends on your relationship with your postie. Where my parents used to live they knew her by name and she would always try the door if they were out, pop the parcel inside the door and give the cat (guard cat!) a stroke - in fact she and my mum are still friends on Facebook and they moved two years ago! In the new place they have a porch, leave that open with a note to drop stuff inside, they don’t even ring the bell now. I honestly think your postie was trying to do you a favour, but if you don’t like it then have a word.

Yep, another drama whore. Tell you what OP, why don’t call Royal Mail, complain and hopefully get the helpful postie sacked. Then you can come back with another none post “was I being unreasonable to get the postie sacked”

Who's ring doorbell shows inside their house?

precisely!!! 😆

so how do you know he came in to your home?

PoopingAllTheWay · 30/06/2024 16:52

The question is :

HOW FAR DID HE COME IN????

Did he open the door, put the parcel there and close the door again or did he walk into your house, into another room and open your fridge???

Because the parcel was in the house, obvs!

tuvamoodyson · 30/06/2024 16:52

‘Hiya….your parcel is just inside your front door’

I know you're just being silly, but don't give OP ideas like this. I had colleagues struck off due to minor complaints like this, long term workers who were just trying their best for their customers.

The handle can be heard being opened. It has a loud click when it is. So definitely not ajar.

Amazon did this to me and I don't care about everyone saying they were doing you were a favour, it crosses boundaries imo. They shouldn't be testing handles, and they shouldn't be coming inside. I reported mine - I felt shaken for the whole rest of the day as when it happened to me it was dark nights, there's no reason for a stranger to try your handle and come inside

Pottedpalm · 30/06/2024 16:59

Our postie brings the post into the kitchen every morning😀
In the unlikely event that we are both out at that time he puts small items through the cat flap ( no letterbox) and leaves larger items in the woodshed. He is fab. We reward with pots of home made jam, surples veg from the garden and the occasional bacon roll if he times it right 🙂

Abitorangelooking · 30/06/2024 17:00

My postie does this a lot. Leaves parcel in utility. It reminds me I should lock the door.

Magnastorm · 30/06/2024 17:00

Our postie does the same, just opens the door and puts anything too big inside. It means if I don't hear the door things get put inside out of view and out of the rain etc.

I fail to see why anyone would have any sort of issue with that whatsoever.

Aww that really made me smile. When there was that heatwave back in July 2022 my mum made sure to have a steady supply of Magnums on hand for our postie and insisted on popping icecubes into her water bottle to keep it cool. It’s so lovely to have community relationships isn’t it? Also I am now seriously considering a career change because I want to be YOUR postie, you sound ace!

Maybe you shouldn't leave your doors unlocked then?

Ivehearditbothways · 30/06/2024 17:03

Totally normal here. They’ll sometimes shout hello, but sometimes just leave it.

well given you’re not willing to actually post the video….

and how come you’re so sure he came in to your house when you confirm that you have no footage inside your property at all
