The post person entered my house.

I've just seen it on my Ring doorbell.

17yr old DD had left the door unlocked for her friend so she didn't have to come down to let them in. Not uncommon.

Post arrived, including a parcel, during this time. When no one answered the door, the post person tried the handle, opened up the door and came into my home.

Granted, DD shouldn't have left the door unlocked, but it doesn't make what the post person did ok.

Just me who thinks it was completely unreasonable for them to have even tried the handle?!

There's a picture upthread

of her shed 😆

PossumintheHouse · 30/06/2024 16:38

You haven't answered the question numerous people have asked - did he simply open the door and place the parcel in the hallway/as close to the front door as possible, or did have a mooch around?

Globules · 30/06/2024 16:38

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:35

unlocked home
unlocked shed
have you ever been burgled op?

Shed has old kids toys, a table and the cat carrier in.

Oh, and dressing up clothes.

And a bag of carrier bags.

Any burglar is welcome to any of it, hence it being left unlocked for parcels.

Been burgled once. Everything locked on that occasion.

this happened yesterday
why are you checking ring just now?

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:39

where is the shed in relation to your front door?

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 30/06/2024 16:39

DrRiverSong · 30/06/2024 16:26

Ours does this. Our evri driver, who I’m on first name terms with, does this. It’s not particularly shocking. Would you prefer your parcel to be left with a neighbour or to have to collect it?

Edited

You're lucky! Our Evri drivers are useless and just dump it outside the door. They don't even try to hide it ffs

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:40

oh and outside the front door
whsat the hell does that demonstrate! 😆

Globules · 30/06/2024 16:40

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:37

the shed is by your front door?

or in your back garden?

The shed is outside my front door.

Crazy, but true.

The picture shows the post person at the point of them opening and walking through my front door.

Do you honestly care? What did he do, take a handful of steps inside your doorway?

The things that people waste their mental energy on blows my mind.

He delivered something you wanted. You got it safely. End of bloody story.

the corner of a red shirt!

What do you think the red shirt is? Why would the ring DOOR bell not be placed by a DOOR

tinkertailorsoldierpie · 30/06/2024 16:41

As an ex postal worker, 'in this day and age', yeah, notes on the door can be useful. It let us know if someone was disabled and slow to attend the door, if babies were sleeping, or if someone was on nights. So it's also helpful to us (as we don't want to be lugging your parcel around or making a second attempt delivery the next day!) if you can direct us towards a safe space of your choosing. For some people, this is by leaving the door to a porch, or somewhere else indoors and dry, open. Your postie tried to do you a solid favour here, and yes, I understand that maybe they shouldn't have done it, but they were probably thinking they were helping you out. It's not like they came inside and took their lunch break on your couch is it?

For future reference, you can download the Royal Mail app, if writing on a bit of paper is beyond you or considered old fashioned. There is an option on it to assign a designated safe space, in which you can put 'Shed' or 'Garage'. It comes up on the handheld device we use to scan your packages, so there's no chance of the postie missing it as it basically takes up the entire screen and you have to click on it to make it go away.

Or, if you wish to be more direct, speak to your postman. Tell them where you want any parcels to be left and that will be the end of it, but my recommendation is to get the app to save yourself any further trouble (and I say that as an ex-RM worker, not trying to promote it but it's really quite useful).

Shes told them the shed is the safe place

AgentProvocateur · 30/06/2024 16:41

If he rang the bell, why did your daughter not answer the door? Anyway, I’d be grateful to not have to collect my parcel from the sorting office, which is a drive away. No harm done. S/He didn’t go through your knicker drawer.

magnoliablooms · 30/06/2024 16:42

I wouldn't be worried about burglary just car key theft and weird stabby men

that is a still picture of a corner of a red t shirt and outside the property

you think that proves a postman entered the property

quite the imagination!

I don't have a porch.

Okay...if your door was open, why shouldn't he put the parcel in your house?

You don't HAVE to open a door just because someone asks you to

AbraAbraCadabra · 30/06/2024 16:42

I would much rather they left the parcel inside than outside which is where most of my parcels are dumped. Just dumped on the doorstep for anyone to take.

If all the postie did (and wtf is a post person?!?) was pop the parcel in, I'm not sure why you are annoyed. If they came in, used the loo and made themselves a cup of tea which they drank with their feet up on your coffee table while watching countdown, I'd understand your annoyance. Take a chill pill. They did you a favour.

MasterBeth · 30/06/2024 16:36

Yes, OK, but WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE BOTH YOUR DOORS UNLOCKED WHEN ANYONE COULD JUST COME INTO YOUR HOUSE?

I mean, we lock it when we go out. I don’t see the problem with leaving the doors unlocked when we’re home unless we’re asleep. Never had an issue yet. They always call out to say they’ve left the parcel there

No I think the appearance of a parcel inside the house would.

And presumably the rest of the footage

Really? People like to steal stuff while people are in the upstairs of the house or watching TV or whatever.
