To not like cake.

I just don't see the attraction of cake. I don't like anything spongey or fairy cakes or tarts or anything.

I'm not virtuous. I'm overweight for my height as I love savoury things/ wine/ cheese/ carbs.

It's definitely not about trying to be 'good'. I just don't like it. But cake seems so everywhere and popular. I went to my mum's friend's house today and the cake she had made came out straight away. I feel rude saying that I don't like it - and I did have a small slice to be polite, but I just didn't and don't enjoy it.

I think maybe it's a texture thing. Anyone else?

This is arguably the most unreasonable post I’ve ever seen on here.

Bulbnotbolb · 27/05/2024 23:36

You're overthinking this

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/05/2024 23:36

I'd actually like to like it. But I don't!

FrogandTrumpet · 27/05/2024 23:37

You might get some sympathy on Mumsnet though, as many posters much prefer a massive salad.

BettyBlueHat · 27/05/2024 23:38

I also don’t like cake. Love beer, wine, crisps, chocolate, sweets. Don’t like cake

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/05/2024 23:38

I'm not a massive salad fan unless accompanied by pasta or bread

AmelieTaylor · 27/05/2024 23:38

Hmmm. I like the idea of cake, but 99.9% of the time it's massively disappointing. It's invariably too dry and toppings are invariably too sweet & add nothing to the dry cake.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/05/2024 23:38

@BettyBlueHat thankyou 🙏🏻

OP posts:
FrogandTrumpet · 27/05/2024 23:39

I agree. A massive salad doesn’t really do it for me unless the lettuce to bacon ratio is roughly equal.

flutterby1 · 27/05/2024 23:40

Cake is stodgy and sort of unrefined. Can't stand the idea of homemade cake with people having touched it too many times to decorate etc. prefer chocolate

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/05/2024 23:42

@flutterby1 yes! This isn't the main reason I don't like it but I also find this aspect off putting too. Bake sale at school / work 🤢

I don't like cake much either. Love savoury food and definitely not teeny tiny 🤣
I really don't like the dry claggy way it seems to clump in my mouth. Coated in sticky icing makes me honestly heave.
All made worse by no one ever believing me when I say I don't like cake.
My sil who is cake obsessed went to huge effort to make a birthday cake for me as it happened to land on a weekend all the extended family could get together. I don't mind a straightforward victoria sponge so said that would be great. She turned up with a huge chocolate thing covered in ganache and when I politely declined a piece had a right strop.
Cake people are a bit strange.

Wistler · 27/05/2024 23:43

I don’t like cake or chocolate and I don’t drink so I’m pretty fucked on MN 😂. I do love cheese with lots of chutney and home made bread though. I tried the cheese with Christmas cake last year as suggested on here and it made me boak

I’ll get my jacket…

ErrolTheDragon · 27/05/2024 23:43

There's cake and cake. Some really isn't very nice. Others are just the job after a long walk with a pot of tea.

DeadMabelle · 27/05/2024 23:43

Why would you be unreasonable not to like cake? Taste is pretty subjective. Personally I hate chocolate, cream and icecream, fennel, blue cheese, feta, okra, all spirits, pineapple, anything strawberry flavoured — none of those are unreasonable, either!

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/05/2024 23:43

@SleepEatSnoozeRepeat

You have described it perfectly. It's a texture thing isn't it? I don't get the excitement/ like

I love cake so can’t relate but I did have a hairdresser once who said she didn’t like cake!

She said even looking at a picture of a creamy rich gooey cake that I showed her, made her feel “uncomfortable” , each to their own! 😆

GeckoFeet · 27/05/2024 23:45

My sister doesn't like chocolate

TwattyMcFuckFace · 27/05/2024 23:45

Of course YANBU

I've never liked cake.

YABU to eat it if you don't want to though, because you've convinced yourself the cake giver will care.

GeckoFeet · 27/05/2024 23:45

My sister doesn't like chocolate

I don’t mind chocolate but I could happily never eat another piece again! Same with sweets, I’ll have them occasionally but could do without.

yumyumyumy · 27/05/2024 23:48

I can take it or leave it. I don't particularly enjoy it. The same with chocolate

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/05/2024 23:51

If it seems like I am overthinking it, I'm not. I think what's more likely to be happening is that I have some v stressful things going on at the moment (teen daughter with MH stuff and hospital admissions, dropped pit of A levels , single parent with awful ex) so honestly, even just to have this thread to take my mind off it for a bit is a welcome distraction whether you like cake or not. So thankyou all!

OP posts:
TyneTeas · 27/05/2024 23:51

I'm not bothered at all by puddings.

In restaurants when everyone else is deliberating the different sweet options I am secretly thinking I'd much rather just have another starter to finish

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 27/05/2024 23:53

@TyneTeas

Exactly this. I can't relate to the excitement of a dessert menu! Surely if you want anything else by that point it's cheese and biscuits?

OP posts:
RobertaFirmino · 27/05/2024 23:55

Please send any bothersome cake to me and I will ensure it is disposed of in a suitable manner.
