That women should not have to share changing rooms with men

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13459927/NHS-chiefs-legal-action-female-nurses-changing-room-transgender.html

This is absolutely horrific and probably the first of many cases we will see now. Please read the article in full but this alone is appalling. The response by their HR should be noted because that is what is going to happen to every woman who complains about this if we keep allowing these fraudulent men to get away with what they want.

One of the nurses told The Mail on Sunday: 'We don't feel safe because we strip down to our underwear and [the individual] doesn't just stay by his locker. 'He walks around the changing room in his boxer shorts.'
Another nurse said she was 'close to tears' during one incident in the changing room.
She said: 'I was rummaging in my bag trying to find my lanyard and keys for the locker when a man's voice behind me said, 'Are you not getting changed yet?' 'I found my keys and opened my locker and I was asked again, 'Are you not getting changed yet?'.'
The woman, who was sexually abused as a child, has posttraumatic stress disorder and struggles to be alone around men. She said: 'He stood there, two metres away from me, with a scrub top on and with tight black boxer shorts with holes in them and asked a third time whether I was getting changed yet.
'Flight or fight mode kicked in but I felt glued to my seat, I could not move. 'My hands started to sweat. I was petrified and felt sick and began hyperventilating.'
In March, 26 nurses wrote to management saying that the transgender nurse 'has made no secret' of the fact that 'he has stopped taking female hormones and is trying to inseminate his female partner'.
AIBU to suggest NOW is the time to wake up, en masse and stop allowing BE KIND to be a mantra that allows predatory men access to women at their most vulnerable.

The Tory interns are out in force today I see.

Hiw they turn everything into a thread about labour being bad (and not a fan of them or tories tbh) is a work of creative mastery.

It might surprise you to know that many of the women you are referring to are lifelong Labour voters who now feel politically homeless. Grow up.

I’m ex-NHS HR and can promise this shit isn’t happening in the Trust I worked for.

Its absolutely happening in my trust. Hence I cannot go for breast screening. They refuse to confirm no men of any gender will be in the screening.

WandsOut · 26/05/2024 16:30

"Criticise Labour therefore you must be a Tory" is a derailing comment deflecting from men getting erections in women's changing rooms and other intimate spaces.

Let's do derailed bingo shall we?

It absolutely is happening in my Trust. The written policy is explicit, TW can use the changing rooms of their choice as soon as they 'socially transition' ie as soon as they say magic words. Managers have to support them and female staff will not be listened to as they're no better than racists if they object, and must be sent on training to change their views. That's the policy.

I wrote our policy before I left, and my deputy, now in my role, would set herself on fire in reception rather than change it.

The NHS and every place should offer individual changing areas for women who don’t want a man or man saying that they are a woman in their changing room space.

I disagree. Men should not be in women's changing rooms. The people that want to believe in the fantasy that humans can change sex need to find a solution that does not impact women.

Why should women who want safety, privacy and dignity be segregated from spaces that were developed to provide them with that just because an entitled man wants validation.

YellowHairband · 26/05/2024 16:40

Well of course it's not acceptable however this is what you will get with Labour.

And what we are currently getting with the Tories.

I agree with you. Whilst the madness continues to erode and remove basic dignity and rights for women let’s demand more expensive solutions. I don’t want a man or a man saying that they are a women in a place where I remove my clothes so I demand my own individual space.

I’m a TERF but have to point out that you’re incorrect. Gender reassignment protection does not require any surgery to have taken place, no medication to have been taken or any steps taken to change anything physical. it takes a Gender Recognition certificate, of which few are applied for each year, and even that wouldn’t give the older the right to be in an opposite sex changing room.

Thanks for that, didn't realise it was so broad which is even more disgusting.

@Winnading

You mean male staff? Kind of other discussion.

Channellingsophistication · 26/05/2024 16:54

This is a horrifying story and a complete erosion of womens rights. Anyone pushing back gets accused of being transphobic when its actually about women wanting to feel safe and comfortable.

Why do the feelings of the transgender women trump the womens?

True and it's appalling.

However Labour policy will make this even worse by making a GRC even easier to get than it is currently.

People will only need sign off by one GP. Which is basically self ID as on what grounds could a GP refuse? And if they did, another one will oblige

Underthinker · 26/05/2024 17:01

I know people hate to hear this but Labour ARE planning laws to make GRCs easier to obtain which will make situations like this more likely to occur in future. I don't really care if you vote Labour or whoever, but people should tell their Labour canvassers to drop these policies.

334bu · 26/05/2024 17:01

You are not being unreasonable.

Votersswing · 26/05/2024 17:02

"are you getting changed yet" x 2.

Hr response " you need to be more inclusive and broaden your mind set"

Votersswing · 26/05/2024 17:03

@Underthinker I can't wait for a candidate at my door.

bozzabollix · 26/05/2024 17:08

This is currently happening now UNDER A TORY GOVERNMENT. The very people you say ‘know what a woman is’. They’ve been in power for the last fourteen years. Get them to own it, FFS.

Individual locked cubicles is the way forward and so it should be, I’m not getting my vag out in front of anyone, male or female.

Horrific for the patients but the staff should walk out

How quickly would the policy change?

OldSow · 26/05/2024 15:39

I'm sure Dadjokes will be along shortly to mansplain at us about being kind.

Dunno about that. He's been busy hanging out on the Relationships board lately, exploiting the emotional labour of lowly women to help him figure out his personal issues.

Labour will soon be in power and making it easier for predatory men to do this. I think we need to all be taking that on board.

Individual locked cubicles is the way forward and so it should be, I’m not getting my vag out in front of anyone, male or female.

Even if that were feasible (it's not) - what about female prisons, domestic abuse shelters, rape counselling, not to mention intimate care for sick and disabled women? All open for business to any man who fancies it with a GRC. It's not just about changing rooms and I'm sure you know that.

CranfordScones · 26/05/2024 17:14

PonyPatter44 · 26/05/2024 15:39

Labour aren't in power NOW though, are they? And this shit is happening NOW.

Bacause a particular strand of progressive ideological groupthink dominates the public sector.

It's happening now despite Labour being in opposition. Just wait till Labour can actively enable it. They won't want to alienate their own kind.

If those cubicles are gender neutral, you’re inviting Primark porn galore.

It's also possible to exclude males from women's spaces even if they have had reassignment surgery and possess a GRC. A service must satisfy the requirement that excluding them is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim. Here is a link to guidance from the EHRC.

Note point 5 in the section "single sex services"..

The service is likely to be used by more than one person at the same time and a woman might reasonably object to the presence of a man (or vice versa).
Example: separate male and female changing rooms.

and the section "Gender reassignment provisions in the Equality Act".
