Who were as beautiful or if not more beautiful? Why was she considered the most beautiful of them all?

Who says she was? Is this a poll result taken by everyone alive and she came out #1?

pinkyredrose · 25/04/2024 15:14

I disagree. She's an icon

TinySmol · 25/04/2024 15:16

Christy Turlington. No one is or was more beautiful than her.

stormywhethers321 · 25/04/2024 15:16

In my lifetime I've heard multiple women described as the most beautiful.in the world. Princess Diana, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie, Zendaya, etc. It doesn't mean anything other than she's attractive and in the limelight. Marilyn was an iconic Hollywood beauty, but I don't think anyone means it as a statement of hard fact if they call her the most beautiful.

I find it so weird that Diana is always included in these lists, she was very ordinary looking imo (obvs had the money for nice clothes but apart from that?)

vincettenoir · 25/04/2024 15:18

I think it's more to do with her star quality rather than her aesthetic appeal (although she was considered to be an embodiment of what was considered perfect at the time ( in the way someone like Zendeya or Emily R) might be today.

DoYouSmokePaul · 25/04/2024 15:19

Princess Grace 💖

Blackcats7 · 25/04/2024 15:20

I think she was considered more sexy than beautiful. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder though. Lots of women I would consider more beautiful personally.
For example has anybody seen Fateha on masterchef at the mo? I think she has the most beautiful face when she smiles.

randomchap · 25/04/2024 15:23

Eye of the beholder, no-one can definitely say person x is the most beautiful. Personal preferences come into it.

Mothership4two · 25/04/2024 15:25

Was she considered the most beautiful? She was known for being sexy and acting a bit dippy and faux naive. She was also a pretty mediocre actor IMO.

Off the top of my head, from the same era, I would say Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn were stunningly beautiful (much more so than MM). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though isn't it?

Jeansy · 25/04/2024 15:28

You do realise that ‘beautiful’ is subjective? Nobody has conducted a trial that has resulted in incontrovertible evidence that MM is the most beautiful woman who ever existed?

Also non-Western views of beauty may differ.

Don’t worry about this too much!

Mothership4two · 25/04/2024 15:29

Yes Fateha is pretty @Blackcats7. I think one of the Asian sisters in Gogglebox has a naturally beautiful face.

She was so beautiful and had mega star quality but I think the most beautiful woman that ever existed is Gisele, around 2005. I was (and still am) obsessed

Definitely in the eye of the beholder!

5128gap · 25/04/2024 15:40

She is just what they call 'extra' isn't she? Hair the blondest, figure the curviest, lips the reddest, like a cartoon come to life. Other women are without doubt more facially beautiful and dependent on taste may be considered more sexually attractive, but put MM in a crowded room and she would be the woman most people would notice because everything about her stands out. In her day there were also far fewer women competing in that space than there are today, so she got the label, then died with it preserved forever.

CardigansAndCoffee · 25/04/2024 15:45

I think she just has that indefinable "it". There are better actresses and more spectacularly beautiful women, but there's something about her that is just mesmerising. Models can be pretty much perfect classic beauties, but at the same time can be totally uninteresting to watch.

And as said, subjectivity is huge. I'd say Monica Bellucci is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, but I'm sure many would not agree.

MaryBethMayfair · 25/04/2024 15:45

I think when it comes to MM, it's the mix of old school glamour, the vulnerability she had and the young age that she died has created an air of tragedy and mystique around her. Forever young. Forever unattainable.

For me growing up, Elizabeth Taylor in her "Cat on A Hot Tin Roof" era is what I dreamed of being when I grew up. Sadly for me, that never happened. 😅

I think she has a lovely smile and a kind of fresh-faced beauty when she was young. But if she hadn't been the presumed future queen of England I doubt she would have stood out from a crowd of other women. Like I said, limelight is at least half the equation!

Interestingly, she was the first woman I ever heard my mother describe as beautiful though.

JovialNickname · 25/04/2024 15:52

I think in the group of actresses she rose to fame with, she was far and away the one with the most sexual look and appeal - something I think was novel then. She oozes sexuality in a way that other, objectively better looking woman didn't. I think she had a certain type of beauty that is especially fashionable in the modern day hence why she is held up as the most beautiful.

newyorkhotel · 25/04/2024 15:52

I agree that MM was not particularly beautiful (in comparison to other models/actresses) but she was extremely sexy. I've watched most of her films and even though she's not the greatest actress around, you literally cant take your eyes off her- she steals every scene. She has a delicate fragility about her, like you want to take care of her

It makes sense as beauty or attractiveness really isnt just about the way you physically look- its in the way you carry yourself, the essence you project, the way you move and express yourself etc She was also considered "beautiful" for that time period- if she had been a rising star during the time of grunge, I doubt she'd have got to where she did.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/04/2024 15:53

She was breathtaking in Some Like It Hot.Totalluly beautiful imo.

IsadoraQuagmire · 25/04/2024 15:53

She is beautiful, but "most" beautiful is purely a matter of taste and everyone will have a different opinion.

coxesorangepippin · 25/04/2024 15:55

I really don't get the fuss

She wasn't that beautiful

Blueuggboots · 25/04/2024 15:55

Linda evangelista. She's stunning.

JovialNickname · 25/04/2024 15:57

Femininity is a word that has lost its base function and meaning these days, but Marilyn embodied femininity in a very visceral sense, and I think this is part of what evokes such a powerful response to her
