Who were as beautiful or if not more beautiful? Why was she considered the most beautiful of them all?

We saw the red shoes recently - Moira Shearer was very beautiful.

Has anyone seen “How To Marry a Millionaire” btw? If not I insist you go and find it immediately!

I love all MM films but this is my favourite- she, Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable are all mesmerising and hilarious in it.

Rita Hayworth was very made over - gorgeous before and after but very much packaged to the taste of the movie moguls of the era.

MM was also made over and packaged. She had her hairline 'tidied', but not in such an extreme was as RH, and probably had a nose job.

There's no such thing as 'the most beautiful'. Everyone has a different perception of what constitutes beauty.

NonPlayerCharacter · 27/04/2024 08:12

It was her persona. She essentially created a character and acted it so well that people thought that was who she really was, despite then being slated for supposedly being a bad actress. She was also known to be able to "switch it on" at will. Hence the divide between "Marilyn" and Norma Jean and between Marilyn's perfection and Norma Jean's sorrow.

Her appeal today is probably more about the persona and her sad story behind the glamour than just her looks or her films (which an awful lot of people have never seen).

Why are only famous women ever the "most beautiful?"

Well obviously they're not but most people won't know Emma from your local Tesco or Chloe who teaches your kids, so it would be a pointless thread

MM was a great comic actress as well as being so lovely.
For me, Iman is one of the most beautiful women.

It's kind of adorable how this thread is all about faces, not bodies. MM scored very high on being tiny and yet super curvy - many, many men fancied her - and she was on some occasions sewn into her clothes. I read somewhere that she doctored her shoes so one heel was shorter to enhance the wiggle but that sounds far fetched even for MM.

She also had what Norman Mailer described as "a rinky dink" of a voice.

MM worked really hard on the whole package; I think she wanted to be kept safe and didn't understand she had to be the one to do it. So it's the fragility perhaps that makes people perceive her as beautiful. Sophia Loren or Lauren Bacall were both ravishing, but their image was much tougher.
