Who were as beautiful or if not more beautiful? Why was she considered the most beautiful of them all?

It's because she died young.

Nat6999 · 25/04/2024 22:27

Who knows what she would have looked like had she lived. Look at Diana Dors & how beautiful she was at a similar age, she definitely lost her looks as she got older.

Diana dors was plain even at her peak though. A poor mans Marilyn.

Dimmies · 25/04/2024 22:39

I think Gal Gadot is properly beautiful.

I Think MM personified that era of glamour and sexiness perfectly. She had oodles of sex appeal, high profile lovers and that special beauty that cannot be defined, its just there. Others are beautiful but not as memorable somehow

twoforj0y · 25/04/2024 22:48

I have never, ever understood the MM thing. I can't see it! She is plain, doughy, made up looking and has no charisma. I make can't see it and next have!

IClaudine · 25/04/2024 22:48

This is my favourite photo of Marilyn

I'm not sure I think she would be seen as quite such an icon had she lived out a full lifespan. Her early death is a large part of her mystique. Not the whole part, but a lot of it. A previous poster mentioned Brigitte Bardot. If she had died young she would have been seen as iconic in a way she isn't now (partly because she is more famous for her animal activism and for her Islamophobic views, but partly because she is just an elderly woman like many others. Ageing is the great equaliser)

Ultravox · 25/04/2024 22:56

Marilyn Monroe has the X factor. But for natural beauty, style, class and elegance I think Natalie Portman has the whole package.

She did have some surgery, but it's a bit much to call her 'the original Kim K'. She had talent and charisma and some brains. She wasn't just a vapid sex doll like Kim K.

Calling another woman a sex doll is so vapid in itself.

Everyone will find different people attractive. I don't find any of my friends partners attractive. They clearly do though.

Bella Hadid has discussed regretting her nose job. She wish she'd kept her ethnic nose. But we also love in a society where we still worship
"white features". Margot Robbie is gorgeous, also has had plastic surgery and does very much look like Barbie.

Angelina Jolie had big lips that suddenly on a white woman made big lips desirable. The effects are still seen today.

Media controls a lot of who we have determined as beautiful.

She's beautiful but also appears to have had a nose job. So not completely natural.

ForAmberGoose · 25/04/2024 23:39

It so subjective. I find I rarely find blondes beautiful. Pretty yes but not striking or beautiful in the way I find brunettes.

I can look at Margot Robbie and think she's pretty but she wouldn't hold a candle for me next to young Monica Bellucci or young Angelina Jolie. I think MM is just pretty.

Switcher · 25/04/2024 23:47

It was never the beauty. She was incredibly vulnerable and that was obvious. The whole package was appealing in a kind of warped way. There are many stunning beauties who I just admire, like Gisele. MM still has that aura of tragedy I guess.

@SabreIsMyFave Your having a laugh about Kate moss & her daughter, right ?

Kate was always a weird mix of amazing face/below average height size for modelling which made her a perfect side kick for celebrity men who were also hyped up looks wise but lacked stature as she didnt over tower them then got famous for drugs....

Her daughter & sister for that matter is just completely average & wouldnt get a look in if not for her success & professionalism

OMG this. Lottie is much prettier than Lila, but she still wouldn't be anywhere without the Moss name.

Not completely natural, no. But compared to most of Hollywood, close enough.

There is nothing 'vapid' about calling out the Kardashians' bullshit. I hate the damage that that vile family has done to young girls and to our culture in general. Sex doll describes Kim K perfectly and I make zero apology for saying so.
As for Bella, she may have as many regrets as she pleases. She is not a beauty with the nose job and she was not a beauty without it. She is a plain Jane nepobaby and I have no idea how she even got as far as she did.

AzureBlue99 · 26/04/2024 09:31

Jean Shrimpton was so beautiful. Marilyn had a manufactured beauty about her.

I thought Princess Diana was stunning in photos. But I used to see her in Kensington a lot, when she was in her 30s. She was striking to look, a bit of a big nose, quite a hard face and helmet haired. Always well dressed, but not beautiful.

AzureBlue99 · 26/04/2024 09:36

Gemma Arterton was beautiful, still is but not quite as stunning these days. All the beauty labels are for the young I think. On these type of threads anyway.

SagaNorensPorche · 26/04/2024 12:27

A shout out for Sade, so beautiful. Same for Yasmin Le Bon

DH has seen Kate Moss in the flesh (90s) and said she was out of this world stunning. I do think it's hard to tell real beauty now as we're always seeing post-surgery or filtered faces.

No, I am not 'having a laugh.' It's my opinion. I find Lottie, Lila, AND Kate all stunning, as a few others on here do. (Lila is VERY pretty!) Just because you disagree does not make me 'wrong.' It's an OPINION!

People rave about Audrey Hepburn. I think she is as plain as an unbuttered slice of toast. Poster above said Sade and Yasmin le Bon are beautiful. Sade is pretty enough. Yasmin le Bon not so much. Looks very masculine to me.

As many posters have said 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' I am still gobsmacked at the (2 or 3) posters saying Fateha from Masterchef is beautiful.

I don't think she is even remotely pretty or attractive. I can't see a single appealing or attractive thing about her, yet (bizarrely) a few posters think she is 'beautiful.' Confused

Gene Tierney who was born in 1920,a classic beauty.

I get that Mumsnetters will veer towards white standards of beauty. But to post pictures of a brown Muslim woman in hijab and sneer at people who see beauty in her is a new low.
