Who were as beautiful or if not more beautiful? Why was she considered the most beautiful of them all?

No, I am not 'having a laugh.' It's my opinion. I find Lottie, Lila, AND Kate all stunning, as a few others on here do. (Lila is VERY pretty!) Just because you disagree does not make me 'wrong.' It's an OPINION!

People rave about Audrey Hepburn. I think she is as plain as an unbuttered slice of toast. Poster above said Sade and Yasmin le Bon are beautiful. Sade is pretty enough. Yasmin le Bon not so much. Looks very masculine to me.

As many posters have said 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' I am still gobsmacked at the (2 or 3) posters saying Fateha from Masterchef is beautiful.

I don't think she is even remotely pretty or attractive. I can't see a single appealing or attractive thing about her, yet (bizarrely) a few posters think she is 'beautiful.' Confused

Well, I'm equally gobsmacked by your saying that Lila Moss Hack is pretty. She has a face like play doh.

Blueuggboots · 25/04/2024 15:55

Linda evangelista. She's stunning.

Was, maybe!

Bignanna · 26/04/2024 16:49

Was, maybe!

Overrated even in her day imo. Very masculine looking. Christy was the most beautiful of the 90s supermodels.

I agree with you. I was shocked when I saw her on the catwalk. After the likes of Linda and Naomi and Christy, she is really nothing to look at at all- her face is doughy and weird

Blueuggboots · 26/04/2024 16:55

@Bignanna, well yes, but we all age and I'm sure Marilyn monroe doesn't look how she did either??!!!

Blueuggboots · 26/04/2024 16:57

(And yes, I know she's dead, which is exactly my point.)

RecruitmentGuru · 26/04/2024 17:09

Never got Kate Moss’s beauty. She was incredibly slim in the 90s, smoking, drinking, dark circles under her eyes. Her features were flat to me.

Mm definitely had “it” in spades but for pure beauty I’ve always thought Ava Gardner was the most gorgeous actress of that era.

@Screamingabdabz

My eldest DD is the same. We were walking through town one day. She was wearing a baggy black jumper and leggings and pumps. People ( all ages) were just drawn to look at her, but like you say if you saw a photo, you'd think she was pretty but that's it.
In fact my middle DD is more classically 'beautiful' but it's always eldest DD who gets the looks.

A Most Beautiful Woman in the World thread is incomplete without Mumsnetters randomly inserting their daughter who ‘literally stops traffic’, amongst the Angelina Jolie and Aishwarya Rais.

I was thinking that! Not just pretty or attractive, but traffic stopping, jaw dropping, drop dead gorgeous!!! 😂

Yh. I was expecting Fateha from Masterchef to be more like Nadiya Hussain when she was on bake off by the first few comments definitely not a looker but I still stand by the moss girls (not Kate herself)

toomanyy · 26/04/2024 16:33

I get that Mumsnetters will veer towards white standards of beauty. But to post pictures of a brown Muslim woman in hijab and sneer at people who see beauty in her is a new low.

But she's nowhere near Nadiya Hussain levels of beauty for a cooking show contestant is she ?
& arabs have & can be known for extreme beauty so hardly racist to say 1 who others think is attractive is less so when they put themselves in the public eye.

JamSandle · 26/04/2024 18:18

I think partly the enigma and tragedy that surrounded her life. People aren't just interested in her beauty but fascinated by her life which was very compelling.

GoldViper · 26/04/2024 18:29

Yeah Kate moss's daughter takes after her dad unfortunately

Kaia Gerber on the other hand is a knock out. Can't act for shit though 😆

She was beautiful but Pamela Anderson will always be the most beautiful woman in my opinion.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 26/04/2024 19:21

I love these types of pics of MM much more than the really glam ones.

She definitely had great bone structure and a reasonably symmetrical face and body (which makes up most attractiveness in anyone) but most of her following was due to her glamour (makeup/ wardrobe) and performances (movies mostly).
Dying early elevates anyone to 'top tier' in some way. Especially in beauty as we never got to see her age.

It would have been a much happier thing had she been allowed to live her life in relative peace, but she wasn't the only casualty of Hollywood/celebrity culture last century.

FFS, she's 'put herself in the public eye' by appearing on a TV show being judged for her cooking skills, not her looks 🙄 .

@ImthatBoleyngirl those are lovely pictures of Marylin Monroe. (That you posted at 19.21.) She really did have such a sweet face. Smile

'Most beautiful' is sometimes a sexist shorthand for people who want to say that they admire a woman or her stardom/presence; and because 'most beautiful' is seen as the pinnacle of what a woman can aspire to, that's the descriptor that's used. Even for somebody like Rachel Riley - who is undoubtedly very physically attractive - her beauty tends to be the go-to descriptor rather than her remarkable intelligence or highly-recognised campaigning work.

Even for woman like Diana, who may (or may not, depending on your pov) have coped admirably with her fame and position and used it for a lot of good - but going by common objective standards of beauty, she was naturally quite average, albeit very well-dressed and immaculately presented.

I agree that it's 'interesting' how the 'most beautiful woman in the world' invariably tends to be white. In fact, when you consider the overwhelming proportion of women in the world who are NOT in any way famous, the overwhelming likelihood is that the actual MBWITW - if this can be categorically assigned - is going to be somebody, like most women, whom nobody really knows except her family, friends and colleagues.

It isn't at all surprising in the context. I doubt MM tops many "most beautiful" lists in Nigeria or - um - most of the non US / UK world, really.

I will say that when you see a properly beautiful person - I believe I have seen two - up close they are like other worldly creatures, breathtaking. There are plenty of them on film - hardly any on the bulletin board pictures of who can use the defibrillator in your average workplace.

and Rita Hayworth - I mean there is a certain glamour about old Hollywood

Rita Hayworth was very made over - gorgeous before and after but very much packaged to the taste of the movie moguls of the era.
