AIBU?

Liz Truss - what's going on there?

Just watched her recent interview with Chris Mason on Newscast. Something is most definitely 'off.' Not just what she says, but her hand and facial expressions are peculiar - as if she's possibly medicated or drunk? She is in total denial - no surprise there - but just so odd. It's actually quite disturbing to watch. AIBU?

It is also what she's saying though... she's endorsing Trump for US president and wishing Nigel Farage would stand as a tory MP. Something terribly wrong with her.

She not only endorsing Trump, it's as if she's trying to copy his hand movements and persona. She seems kind of disconnected, not only from reality, but from herself.

Wasn't she always like that?

When she was running for PM she had that same, drunk, demeanour.

I've just seen a clip from that interview and she does genuinely seem a little bit drunk.

The woman is unhinged. Thank goodness she didn't last as PM.

I’ve always thought she was like that. Cannot stand the woman.

I saw the clip you are referring to, and I couldn’t quite believe my ears.

I read a tiny extract from her book the other day in which she was describing meeting the Queen, and then hearing news of her falling very ill, and her subsequent death, and she managed to make it sound all ‘me me me.’ So self absorbed.

I think we should all feel lucky she’s no longer in power but question how and why she was there in the first place.

I think she has always come across as very odd - slightly off her trolley/meds or drunk.

I couldn't believe the brass neck of her this morning sweeping the shitshow she created under the carpet and blaming others. Being VERY kind you could say that she was just completely out of her depth and didn't have the intelligence or political savvy to effectively steer the country (or listen to experts who I am sure were screaming inside). Wish she would now bugger off and do something where her incompetencies won't matter. No-one cares and her political ambitions are unrealistic as is her belief in her own inadequencies - she'll never get near the 'top spot' again.

Don't know about meds but I heard she's broke, stony broke, hence the book.

The irony is she received a lot of support from the conservatives and the 1922 committee and ones who could vote for her during those many weeks of campaigning to be PM back in 2022 , and it was obvious then from watching her interviews and the hustings on tv that she wasn't quite with it at times and would be weak.
However, she still won and it makes me wonder how. Why didn't they vote for Rishi Sunak back then? I know it wasn't a landslide for her , but people still thought she'd make a better PM.
It's sad she was the Queen's very last PM when she had served with 14 others before who were much more competent than she turned out to be across all the political parties.

The Tory party is full of bonkers MPs, Liz is just one of them.

The only thing about that that makes me smile is that she gave Penny Mordaunt whatever position it was that meant she had to hold that sword, and be part of the other official stuff.
If the queen had died a few weeks earlier, Jacob Rees-Mogg was in that position, and would have been the one to do that, and I love that fact that you just know he's fuming that it wasn't him.

I’m listening to the interview rather than watching. I disagree with 95% of what she says but she doesn’t come across as drunk/medicated without the visual. How interesting! Will watch later.

She sounds desperate to me. Sales of her book depend on publicity and she’s raising the profile by making the most outrageous statements she possibly can.

You're right OP, there's something not 'balanced' about her. She's completely unaware of what's around her.

Her being appointed leader was the only time I've ever written to my MP in horror.

I always thought she was deeply weird. Very much like Chris Mason though!

Why is she getting any attention or screen space- I really don't understand who wants to hear her opinions on anything. I never click on any links to do with her!

I didn’t particularly get the impression she was drunk, just that she’s a massive narcissist (and I know the word is overused but in her case I think it’s absolutely appropriate) and has no self awareness whatsoever.

I have never met her but I would bet she is always like this.

Utterly embarrassing.

Only time I’ve agreed with my conservative MP when he wrote an open letter to the government in horror.

She’s what true believer libertarianism looks like. She’s the front for all of those American think tanks who’ve been successfully destroying our country since the Brexit vote.

Plus she’s cray cray.

They didn't want a Person of Colour to be PM. Simples.

I've only seen the 1 min clip I posted upthread. I think she seems off there, but it may not be representative of the whole thing

I can’t tell you how much that woman cost us!! We had just put our house for sale when she drove up interest rates. It was a total nightmare.

That's very simple - Tory racists didn't want Rishi until they had no choice.
