Liz Truss - what's going on there?

Just watched her recent interview with Chris Mason on Newscast. Something is most definitely 'off.' Not just what she says, but her hand and facial expressions are peculiar - as if she's possibly medicated or drunk? She is in total denial - no surprise there - but just so odd. It's actually quite disturbing to watch. AIBU?

Don't know about meds but I heard she's broke, stony broke, hence the book.

2023:
‘According to reports, Liz Truss net worth in 2023 is estimated to be £8.4 million (or around $13 million). ‘

I read something where someone described her as having the exact opposite of imposter syndrome, which I think is quite accurate.

I think it's called the Dunning Kruger effect. Where a person overestimates their ability. Here it's coupled to narcissism and mild sociopathy. She cannot empathise with the people she harmed to gain insight into where it all went wrong, and has developed a persecution complex to protect her sense of self worth. It's comical but equally frightening.

I think we should all feel lucky she’s no longer in power but question how and why she was there in the first place.

The alternative was Sunak, and look how that's turned out!!!

BIossomtoes · 16/04/2024 10:06

Not true. The favourite among the membership was Mordaunt and a lot of them were severely pissed off when she was excluded.

Ah OK. I'd remembered some earlier polls which had Badenoch as favourite, but I've just had a (very!) quick google it seems that didn't last too long and she was overtaken by Mordaunt.

Well it’s definitely not worse, is it?

Churchview · 16/04/2024 10:24

When you look at the people who rise to the top of the Conservative party it makes you realise what a bunch of odd, venal, false, self serving, flawed, detached from reality weirdos they are.

Truss, Mogg, Anderson, Johnson, Sunak, Braverman, Patel.......the list is endless really.

In any other organisation these people would be the person in the corner who bears a grudge, smells of damp cardigan and has a 'private' drawer full of out of date biscuits and coupons clipped from the Daily Mail. In 30 years they've never been promoted, are mostly under warning for voicing sexist, racist opinions and haven't been invited to after work drinks since 1997.

1dayatatime · 16/04/2024 10:25

Well are she was very publicly and unceremoniously dumped out of her job as PM she had two possible explanations to mentally take on board:

A) it was because she was way out of her depth, incompetent and not up to the job or

B) it was all a conspiracy against her, she was right all along and the establishment was out to get her because she was right wing / a woman / insert any excuse here.

She clearly took option B, the problem with this is once you go down the conspiracy path you end up getting more and more nutty. Scroll forward a few years and she will probably be found shouting angrily at pigeons in the local park.

LadyKenya · 16/04/2024 10:29

People should not even buy her book. The woman is a disgrace, who has cost people dear.

BronwenTheBrave · 16/04/2024 10:30

Havanananana · 16/04/2024 08:41

I heard she's broke, stony broke, hence the book.

Hard to believe. She gets £91,346 as an MP, plus expenses to cover her office and the rental of accommodation in London. She gets an additional £115,000 a year for life as a former Prime Minister. Perhaps at the next GE her constituants can ask themselves when they last saw her in Swaffham or Thetford, and what exactly she has done to improve their lot.

On top of this, there are her appearance fees for speaking at the conferences of various right-wing organisations in the UK and not least in the US, which look like being her main grift.

The book is published by Biteback Publishing, a company owned by billionaire Lord Ashcroft, who also happens to be one of the largest donors (we're talking millions) to the Conservative party, despite not living in the UK and preferring to live in an off-shore tax haven. Even if nobody buys a single copy, Truss is no doubt going to be well paid for her thoughts.

I heard she got a £1,500 advance for her book.
Puts her right up there with ‘Basket-weaving for beginners’. 😀

Agree. They are all such appalling people. Every time I see Suella Braverman I am appalled she has a public platform. Liz Truss, Priti Patel, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Boris Johnston to. Do they think we have the memory of a goldfish? I mean Rishi Sunak is appalling too, but the rest of them are in a different league.

GingerPirate · 16/04/2024 10:32

Deranged.
Full stop.

godmum56 · 16/04/2024 10:34

I saw her this morning talking about the new anti smoking law. I thought she looked and sounded unwell, puffy faced.

BronwenTheBrave · 16/04/2024 10:35

MotherofPearl · 16/04/2024 09:16

I think most people who failed so spectacularly and publicly in their jobs would be pretty embarrassed, but Truss just brazens it out.

If I were her, I'd have been inclined to change my identity, get plastic surgery and move continents after what happened, but for reasons unknown she keeps herself in the public spotlight and is deluded enough to imagine that anyone wants to hear a single thing she has to say.

I understand it.
To protect her vanity she had to blame everyone else.
Now she truly believes everyone is wrong except her.

parkrun500club · 16/04/2024 09:50

Ask the Tory party members who voted for her over Sunak. Whatever his problems, he's way better than her (it's a low bar to be sure).

I am sure there are Tory party members in this forum who voted for her.
Please can you tell us why, I am genuinely interested.

You're quite right.

Braverman was third rate barrister without talent going nowhere. The Conservative Party transformed her into The Right Honourable Suella Braverman MP KC, ex holder of a Great Office of State.

Anderson was an embittered Labour activist who couldn't achieve promotion for his lack of ability. The Conservative Party made him deputy chair.

It's a rehabilitation scheme for oddballs, weirdos and the permanently angry.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 16/04/2024 10:41

Mothership4two · 16/04/2024 07:38

I think she has always come across as very odd - slightly off her trolley/meds or drunk.

I couldn't believe the brass neck of her this morning sweeping the shitshow she created under the carpet and blaming others. Being VERY kind you could say that she was just completely out of her depth and didn't have the intelligence or political savvy to effectively steer the country (or listen to experts who I am sure were screaming inside). Wish she would now bugger off and do something where her incompetencies won't matter. No-one cares and her political ambitions are unrealistic as is her belief in her own inadequencies - she'll never get near the 'top spot' again.

I wish I had your confidence. Some Tories backed her and they seem to be still backing her. Just like they are backing the Suella Braverman who "cried with joy" at her Ruanda plan. It's a mistake to underestimate the stupidity of some people.

This would make sense if true.

Churchview · 16/04/2024 10:44

I woke up this morning and it suddenly hit me that this latest rush of Tory PMs all seem to be doing the job as a side hussle. Theresa May was the last one who seemed to consider it a full time job.

This recent shower are like the person in the office who is always at the dentist. If they're not churning out a book, making a couple of (tax-efficient?) million out of their family business or choosing wallpaper they're fitting underfloor heating in their stable block or selecting appropriate cosplay for a visit to an over-budget government construction project.

They have to squeeze running the country into the couple of hours between speaking at CPAC and writing their Daily Mail column.

TomeTome · 16/04/2024 07:36

Presumably because the more racist Tory party members didn’t want a brown PM.

That just goes to show how the Tories have lost or kicked out all their talented, competent, sensible people.

Havanananana · 16/04/2024 10:48

"I heard she got a £1,500 advance for her book."

Indeed - that is what she has declared under her obligations to Parliament to declare any outside income. Whether there is more to come, or if her income is dependent on sales, is not known.

This might confirm the suspicion that she's actually a hopeless negotiator, as witnessed by the appalling deals that she signed with Australia and New Zealand - deals that will severely damage much of British agriculture whilst providing a net gain in trade of next to nothing for the UK.

Truss represents a largely rural constituency. It is said that if you stand in Thetford Forest on a still, moonlit night, you can hear the Australians laughing their arses off at the concessions that they got from Truss without even asking for them.

its possible that her diabetes is poorly controlled, the one can be mistaken for the other....not defending her though.

MarilynBoo · 16/04/2024 11:28

Does Liz Truss have diabetes? I know Theresa May does, so perhaps that's a mix up?
