Liz Truss - what's going on there?

Just watched her recent interview with Chris Mason on Newscast. Something is most definitely 'off.' Not just what she says, but her hand and facial expressions are peculiar - as if she's possibly medicated or drunk? She is in total denial - no surprise there - but just so odd. It's actually quite disturbing to watch. AIBU?

It was first class twatting around with swords though. Much as I didn’t want to I grudgingly admired her, I could never have done it.

DuchessOfSausage · 16/04/2024 15:41

Whatever. I'm done.

Do you remember that interview after the disastrous mini budget?

The blank stare and the blinking?

Properly odd

There was no "mini budget" remember ? That would have required a vote.

It was a "fiscal event".

I lost the packet the tablets came in so maybe it's the dosage.

I just don't know.

I'm as puzzled as you are.

Still, what with Suella Braverman attending a conference with Farage today which has just been halted by the mayor in Belgium, it's easy to see
their direction of travel. The Tory party is moving dangerously and nastily more rightward, with nobody stopping them. We are a laughing stock.

I do find myself wondering why it wasn't held in the UK ?

There is something deeply disturbing about elected politicians slithering to foreign shores to shit on their constituents. Farage I can forgive - his only duty is to himself, naturally. But Braverman is an elected representative and has no place sniping at her on constituents from a different jurisdiction.

It's a shame Belgium hasn't got UK style laws to deport her.

Vote the tories OUT!

If you want to peep at Liz truss' shitty book without buying it and annoy the daily mail at the same time, click on the serialised article and then immediately turn your phone to airplane mode. You can then read it for free and you don't have to see her pictures.

She broke the economy and wrecked all our mortgages so I feel this is some rightful karma for her 👍🏼.

LlynTegid · 16/04/2024 18:24

It has been alleged that Liz Truss is an alcoholic. Only those close to her may know the truth, but the OPs description seems consistent with that.

"I gather he was drunk as a lord, so after a discreet period they will probably make him one ..."

If only she had crashed a car rather than the economy.

Shocking woman... shocking words.... mad or sick or both

Mimilamore · 16/04/2024 18:46

Somebody take her away....

I've just seen a clip from that interview and she does genuinely seem a little bit drunk.

In that interview she seriously claims to have some sort of mandate because she won a leadership election amongst a few thousand mad right-wingers in the Tory party. She lacks basic understanding of how the constitution works.

The irony is she received a lot of support from the conservatives and the 1922 committee and ones who could vote for her during those many weeks of campaigning to be PM back in 2022 , and it was obvious then from watching her interviews and the hustings on tv that she wasn't quite with it at times and would be weak.
However, she still won and it makes me wonder how. Why didn't they vote for Rishi Sunak back then? I know it wasn't a landslide for her , but people still thought she'd make a better PM.
It's sad she was the Queen's very last PM when she had served with 14 others before who were much more competent than she turned out to be across all the political parties.

"People" didn't think she would make a better PM. I'm not sure that those who voted for her within the party even thought that. They just preferred to vote for the candidate who didn't have a brown skin.

catPA · 16/04/2024 19:01

I suspect she was borderline anyway, but probably the move into No 10 and then straight out again only weeks later has put her over the edge. She probably hadn't even unpacked. She is all over the place - weird gesticulations and to me, she seems either medicated or drunk. All she has left now is self-delusion, but I think she's actually in a downward spiral and it must be very difficult for her family.

It says everything that the only company that will publish her book is Lord Ashcroft's. Commercial publishers won't touch it with a bargepole, because bookshops really aren't going to stock up on something that's going to have to be heavily remaindered in the very near future.

GoldenTrout · 16/04/2024 19:11

I'm always slightly amazed that she turns up to things like remembrance wreath-laying ceremonies and the Coronation as ex-PM - let alone that she takes the ex-PM pension in full and did resignation honours.. If I'd failed as comprehensively and publicly as she did, there is no way I'd constantly be reminding the public like that, and I hope I'd work out that the only way to regain some respect would be to keep my head down and not show myself as a money-grubber desperate for publicity.

NashvilleQueen · 16/04/2024 19:11

I loved it that time when she did the rounds of local radio one morning thinking it would be an easy ride and one after another they skewered her. It was hilarious.

For a former Lib Dem remainer she's definitely been on a journey. A journey where I suspect she's bank rolled by QAnon loons and now says all the bullshit that her paymasters request. She's a ridiculous figure and we should stop giving her any kind of platform.

CroftonWillow · 16/04/2024 19:15

She sounds like she's on antidepressants to me.
