Just that really, do you shower/bath daily as an adult that (not ill or has health conditions)

I am asking this as another thread, made me curious.

YIBU- I don't shower everyday, there is no need.
YANBU- I shower everyday as I like to be clean.

I shower everyday.

Why do people shower when they are leaving the house is it because they may have a whiff about them or that they do not want to be seen as unclean/dirty, where as some people do not care.

I shower when I am leaving the house, because I am leaving the house...Not because I smell.

I am seeing other people so I will wash, do my hair, put make up on, put nice clothes on etc.

If I am working from home or having a lazy day I do none of the above!! It isn't just washing that gets dropped.

Avonia · 14/04/2024 08:24

Every morning, and sometimes in the evening as well if I feel particularly dirty after work (I work in a hospital) or exercise in the evening. Echo previous posters in that I can smell/pick up on colleagues who haven't showered before work.

SpongeBob2022 · 14/04/2024 08:24

Once a day.

I like to shower before bed. Then in the morning I just wash under my arms and my face at the sink (definitely needed). Occasionally an extra shower if on period. Wash hair every other day.

I can see how those who exercise might do two, but I only exercise at weekend and I just time my daily shower around it.

I'm not hugely judgey about it, but if pushed I wouldn't say twice a day or less than once a day are worse or better than each other...neither seem right to me, though!

MumChp · 14/04/2024 08:25

No. My skin is ruined if I shower daily. And waste of water tbh. And time as a mum.
I do wash every day with a cloth.

silverfullmoon · 14/04/2024 08:27

Daily. When it was very hot (albeit not very long in the UK lol) I would also have a quick cool shower in the evening as well as the morning as it made me feel better). It doesnt matter if I am not going out or interacting with people, having a shower makes me feel refreshed and clean. I like to do that for myself, not only for others. It's nothing to do with any moral judgment about being "dirty", it just feels lovely.

Misthios · 14/04/2024 08:28

Yes - but wash my hair every other day. On the days I'm not washing my hair I'm in and out in 2 minutes.

Purpleturtle45 · 14/04/2024 08:28

Absolutely every day unless I was ill and in bed all day or something like that. People who don't shower everyday smell, even if they can't smell it themselves other people can. I wouldn't feel nice all day if I didn't shower in the morning.

VashtaNerada · 14/04/2024 08:29

At least once a day, ideally two. If I’m on holiday somewhere hot, it’s often three! As someone who uses public transport daily, you do get people who don’t shower. Obviously if it’s a medical condition it’s not their fault, but if they’re just lazy and then they expect people to stand next to them on the bus / train, that’s selfish IMO.

Desecratedcoconut · 14/04/2024 08:29

How is showering wasting time as a Mum? Now come on. That's ridiculous.

I shower everyday. Sometimes I have a shower and then, brace for it, have a bath on the evening. Of course my kids are running feral as a result - still, worth it.

Zoraflora · 14/04/2024 08:29

I shower & wash my hair every morning before I leave the house. It helps to wake me up and I feel freash and clean.
Im peri menopause and have woken up with drenched in sweat so wouldn’t feel good about myself if I hadnt showered.

Fimofriend · 14/04/2024 08:30

YABU. Unless you do manual labour or work out every day it is not necessary. Showering everyday dries out your skin and your hair.

Not to mention the fact that we need to refrain from using an excessive amount of resources as our planet is on the brink of malfunction and the other planets in our solar system are fixer uppers and we do not have the ability to fix them up.

urrrgh46 · 14/04/2024 08:31

Every day, often twice (always twice in Summer...sometimes 3 times of really hot!) hair washed every time I shower. Exceptions are being ill, travelling or other serious disruption to routine like moving house (I've moved at lot!).

neerg · 14/04/2024 08:32

I shower daily, unless it is a day like today, when I am not leaving the house.
I can shower in less than 5 minutes.
My skin isn't dry, my hair isn't dry....but it is short and sticks up if I don't wash it.

urrrgh46 · 14/04/2024 08:33

Parents don't...I think this is a generational thing mostly! I remember having a bath once a week when I was a child! One of my neurodiverse children struggles with the shower/bath/hair wash due to sensory issues. It's a real problem for her - so I do think people shouldn't judge others when they don't know the full story.

Simonjt · 14/04/2024 07:31

At least one a day, not only do I exercise daily, but bodies sweat during the night a lot, its very easy to tell which colleagues have come in to work unclean.

I’m retired, don’t run ( a distant memory) or go to the gym. Dont go anywhere posh or dressy but I couldn’t get dressed without showering and washing my hair every day. Usually just a wash before bed but another quick shower if I feel grubby.

Snowonthepeach · 14/04/2024 08:34

Mostly every second day but if I feel gross or sweaty I will do it daily.

inappropriateraspberry · 14/04/2024 08:35

No. I'm not smelly. I shower/bath about 3 times a week. More in the summer if it's hot, or been swimming, to the beach etc.
twice a day is ridiculous, people wonder why global warming isn't getting sorted - this is why.

If you see what I wrote in my OP, I said those that have health conditions so your daughter issues are accepted.

I shower most days, rarely miss. I swim a couple of times a week and shower at the pool too. I’m in my 70s and rarely sweat. DH showers at least once a day, always first thing. If he’s been gardening or doing any diy, he’ll often shower a second time.

We grew up having baths twice a week if we were lucky. At least we had baths in our homes, many didn’t, even in the 1960s & 70s. There’s really no excuse nowadays for most people not to be clean. Clothes too, we had hand washing or the laundrette. Automatic washing machines are one of the best inventions ever!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 14/04/2024 08:36

Of course, preferably twice! I think it's grim not to.....

IntoTheMild · 14/04/2024 08:36

Yes because I’m breastfeeding and smell like old milk otherwise. When I’m not breastfeeding, every other day.

Motheranddaughter · 14/04/2024 08:37

Yes
Mostly twice a day

borntobequiet · 14/04/2024 08:37

YABU because you imply that you can’t feel clean without showering or bathing.
There are other ways to wash, be and feel clean.

LaWench · 14/04/2024 08:37

Every morning I shower, just a super quick face wash and once over pits and bits with soap.

I'll shower later on if I've been to the gym (5x a week), this is a longer full scrub and shave, wash my hair every other day.

On a weekend I'll go to the gym then shower, I don't have time on a weekday to gym before work, I've tried and it's too stressful with traffic.
