Do you shower/bath everyday

Just that really, do you shower/bath daily as an adult that (not ill or has health conditions)

I am asking this as another thread, made me curious.

YIBU- I don't shower everyday, there is no need.
YANBU- I shower everyday as I like to be clean.

Nope, every 2nd or 3rd day. Far better for both my skin and the planet. Amazingly deodorant works at stopping odours. Who knew?? 😂

Starseeking · 14/04/2024 09:08

Absolutely, every morning without fail.

I tend to have another shower if I go to the gym, and another shower if it's summer and hot lol

Sakura7 · 14/04/2024 09:11

I can't believe there are multiple people admitting they exercise regularly and only shower twice a week. 🤢

I hope there's at least a sink wash every day in between, but I don't understand the point of that when you could just jump in the shower for two minutes and wash the important areas.

I shower every day unless I'm really ill. Even if I'm just lazing around the house, I'd feel grim if I didn't. It's nice to feel clean and it wakes me up.

spacehoppercommuter · 14/04/2024 09:12

Deodorant doesnt stop you sweating, it just reduces bacteria on the skin so after a day or two it will stop working.

If you are referring to aluminium anti perspirants- they stop you sweating but I personally dont think thats healthy for skin, we were meant to sweat. A quick wash is far healthier than wearing anti perspirants constantly that can cause rashes and sensitivity for many people

After 2-3 days it most definitely doesn't!

MuggedByReality · 14/04/2024 09:16

I never have baths, but I do shower every morning, for 2 reasons. Firstly, to be clean, obv. Secondly, because I am not a morning person at all so I really need a shower to force myself to wake up & to kick start my day. Without it, I would be like a zombie until at least 10 am.

Nannyfannybanny · 14/04/2024 09:17

Better pray we don't get a really hot spell like in the 70s when water was turned off, and you had to go and collect it from a standpipe in the streets. Where my son lives in Sussex, they've had a lot of trouble with broken pipes over the last 3 years, when the water has been turned off,you had to go to a specific point to collect water for drinking. He doesn't drive, often the water was all gone when he got there. The supermarkets ran out. It's rubbish you can smell people, who haven't showered that morning.my DH doesn't smell, sweat,he could keep his socks on a year. I'm under the care of a dermatologist (clinical lead at local hospital) guess what she says most people shower/bath far too much. Different if you have a really filthy job, coming in contact with germs, etc.

2024istheyearforme · 14/04/2024 09:25

daily BUT sometimes i miss a day if things dont go to plan but always if ive been sweating or outside for a long period of time.
I feel gross if i miss a day though so always do it the next morning :D
It helps that i don't really sweat though, only if I'm outside mid summer doing something.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 14/04/2024 09:27

For all the people saying that a sink wash takes as long as a shower - you're probably right, but it uses maybe 10% of the water. I think a typical shower for me uses about 100L water (takes a couple mins for the hot water to come through, then a few mins showering - this is from our water meter reads!). If I have a sink wash on a non-sweaty-not-going-anywhere day I definitely don't even use 10L.

I do think because we get a lot of rain in places people don't realise how important water availability is, and how scarce a commodity it can be even in the UK especially given projection of climate change. It's an area I'm interested in via work and nosiness, if everyone was just a little more critical or their own usage (do I really need that shower not a sink wash? Do I need to use the hose not a watering can? Do the towels really need washing every use?) the problem would probably resolve itself. Because that is very unlikely to happen because generally people don't act on something until it's and immediate problem, and with environmental issues that's way too late. So instead we get extortionate water bills, hosepipe bans and other big blunt instruments <<shrugs>>

JoJothegerbil · 14/04/2024 09:31

I bath every night. Occasionally I'll shower as well but I much prefer a wallow in the bath.

FrogTheWarrior · 14/04/2024 09:32

Literally couldn’t start the day without a shower and washing my hair. I’m shocked at the people who don’t shower every morning.

I also have a bath most evenings too. Let the grunge brigade bring it on!

Maddy70 · 14/04/2024 09:32

Yes. Isn't that part of everyone's routine?

TheCatOnTheBedIsAllMineAllMine · 14/04/2024 09:32

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 14/04/2024 07:08

I can’t start the day without being fresh from top to bottom, including washing my hair.

Same. I wouldn’t be ready to face the day unshowered x

Bigcoatweather · 14/04/2024 09:32

Shower once a day and wash hair every other day. Occasionally if I’m at home on a weekend I won’t shower on Sunday morning, but have a bath on the evening.

KimberleyClark · 14/04/2024 09:35

I shower once a day except if exercising.

I’m laughing my head off at these people saying a shower is quicker than a sink wash. Most people on Mumsnet seem to spend 15 minutes or longer under the shower. I could do a sink wash much more quickly than that.

PoppyCherryDog · 14/04/2024 09:35

Yep everyday. Sometimes more because I am breastfeeding a 3 month old and have massive sweaty boobs atm! And don’t like smelling of milk!

Nannyfannybanny · 14/04/2024 09:35

Even a quick shower uses a huge amount of water. I know because we have a big garden, grow a lot of fruit and veg
5 waterbutts, frequently hosepipe bans.then we collect the grey water from the shower. SE UK corner. Rain doesn't appear to matter, frequent burst pipes 2 roads away, countless new builds.

Brainded · 14/04/2024 09:36

@FrogTheWarrior no need to be shocked, I’m nearly 40 and I haven’t mastered the art of showering without get the hair on the nape of my neck and around my face damp which pisses me off because then it won’t play ball and/or gets greasy faster! So I bathe in the evening, it works for me.

FastFood · 14/04/2024 09:37

I generally have a day off per week and it might be today.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 14/04/2024 09:38

Twice a day. I have a cold shower on a morning then a warm shower, (or bath), before bed.

iLovee · 14/04/2024 09:39

MumChp · 14/04/2024 08:25

No. My skin is ruined if I shower daily. And waste of water tbh. And time as a mum.
I do wash every day with a cloth.

Washing is a basic need, it's absolutely not a waste of "time as a mum". I hope you are ok 🩷

They will be here in a minute, I am shocked how people who don't shower everyday think that they do not smell, or that we can't tell, when most people can and say they can but we are all just wrong.

Twice a day too! Once in the morning then either after exercise or just to wash the day off.

Wash my hair once a week!

Mactoba · 14/04/2024 09:51

I love getting into bed clean and also like starting the day clean so in an ideal world I would bath or shower twice a day. However we only heat our water once a day so I shower at night and then have a (cold) wash in the morning to freshen up. It does take just as much time as a second shower if not more but as a pp said it uses a fraction of the water (and I don’t have to stand under icy water!)

Bloopp · 14/04/2024 09:52

Yes, twice in hot weather.

I feel really gross in the morning, I assume people who don't shower either don't feel that way or it doesn't bother them but I'd be really uncomfortable all day if I didn't have a wash. I think every other day is probably fine but less than that and you most likely so smell a bit.
