To think that using a chainsaw at 10am on a Sunday is a bit early/inconsiderate?

Just that really. We were woken up by it and thought it was 9am as we hadn't yet changed the clocks.

day before yesterday?

let it go

Tatas · 02/04/2024 10:04

I think anything past 8am normally or 9am perhaps on a Sunday seems fairly normal time wise to me, by 10am you'd definitely expect most regular noise to be happening so I wouldn't think twice.

Topofthemountain · 02/04/2024 10:06

That's a perfectly acceptable time.

Sprig1 · 02/04/2024 10:06

That's not too early.

pootlin · 02/04/2024 10:06

I think it’s fine. People need to get on with their day too. Not great for night shift workers but even 12pm chainsawing would be bad for them.

We were woken up by it and thought it was 9am as we hadn't yet changed the clocks.

That’s not their problem.

PuttingDownRoots · 02/04/2024 10:06

10am is fine.

anareen · 02/04/2024 10:07

That's perfectly fine.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 02/04/2024 10:07

10am on a Sunday is fine; 9am any other day would be fine. They were considerate to wait.

Mummame2222 · 02/04/2024 10:07

I had neighbours before 8 AM doing work on a Sunday, that’s a piss take. 10 is fine.

cryinglaughing · 02/04/2024 10:07

Don't see a problem with that.
Surprised you're still stewing over it 2 days later.

Mercurial123 · 02/04/2024 10:08

Absolutely fine.

Anonymouseposter · 02/04/2024 10:10

I think after 8am on a weekday and after about 9.30 on a Sunday is a considerate time to start.

FloofCloud · 02/04/2024 10:10

Invest in ear plugs - 10am is fine!

Muddywalks34 · 02/04/2024 10:10

Perfectly reasonable, we are often up at 6am and always wait til 9 on. Saturday 10 on a Sunday before doing any noisy jobs, I think we are more than considerate to the people who like lie ins, but then to us by 9am half the morning has gone

Francisflute · 02/04/2024 10:10

1000 is fine. I think after 0900 on a weekend if neighbours nearby.

There isn't a perfect answer re night shift workers but possibly id say more considerate to do it early as people don't tend to get home and go straight to bed. Worse to wake them up early afternoon

Desecratedcoconut · 02/04/2024 10:11

It was 10am, that's perfectly fine. People don't build a diy schedule that's reasonable for neighbours based on what time their neighbours think it is. 😁

iLovee · 02/04/2024 10:12

Another voice saying it's fine! Its 10 am not 7am!

Willmafrockfit · 02/04/2024 10:13

my neighbours were making a right racket yesterday, bank holiday monday.
after 10 is perfectly reasonable

EarringsandLipstick · 02/04/2024 10:13

Anything after 9 is fine.

MeinKraft · 02/04/2024 10:13

Presumably you don't have young children if you think 10am is early so you can have a nap later?

WhatWhereWho · 02/04/2024 10:14

If they came into your house and turned it on then yes, if in their own garden no.

Amelie2024 · 02/04/2024 10:30

I do think it's inconsiderate & especially so on Easter Sunday.

this is Mumsnet though, a high percentage of parents who will have been up much earlier with children, so a biased response.

im usually awake between 4&5 (after barely sleeping anyway) so it certainly wouldn't wake me, but it does ruin a lovely peaceful Sunday.

my neighbour is obsessed with his jet wash & plays with it for hours on any day he's not doing DIY. He's a nice bloke, but I think he compensates for 'small things' with power tools!! (The though keeps me from burying him in their new patio!!)

I think though, a lot of people don't have a lot of other time to do these jobs so just have to get on with it when they can, so can't really blame them and 10 is fairly reasonable if they have lots to do.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 02/04/2024 10:34

Personally I wouldn't make that much noise until at least 11am on a Sunday

Seeline · 02/04/2024 10:40

I am a late riser, and even I wouldn't complain about something at 10am on a Sunday!

Nkoku · 02/04/2024 10:54

Completely acceptable. For me, 9am is the threshold - after that, anything goes, within reason.
