To think that using a chainsaw at 10am on a Sunday is a bit early/inconsiderate?

Just that really. We were woken up by it and thought it was 9am as we hadn't yet changed the clocks.

You were still asleep?
Can't remember last time I was still asleep then.
Still lazing around maybe but not asleep
It's fine

Judgy much? Not everyone has the same sleep patterns, you know.

That said, I do think 10 a.m. is fair enough. Noisy jobs have to be done sometime.

CharlotteBog · 02/04/2024 13:43

It's not unusual for people to be sleeping at (what was 9am) on a Sunday morning. Most people are up and about, but many aren't. Do you think that everyone is up and about just because you are?

Not everyone no.
Judging by the replies on this thread though, the vast majority yes

KreedKafer · 02/04/2024 13:55

I'm a night owl and like to have a lie-in at weekends when I can, but I wouldn't expect neighbours to be quiet at 10am. It's a pretty reasonable time to be up and doing stuff, including things that make a noise.

KreedKafer · 02/04/2024 13:56

What do you want, a medal or something?

Indeed, and that is why OP is being told that she is being unreasonable in thinking it's inconsiderate.
I don't understand the point of your statement.

Just making the point that most people are awake then.
Pretty much like most other replies on the thread.
Are you going to reply to each one individually?

I'm agreeing with everyone else. That's my point of my statement

9 or even 8 am wouldn't be an issue here. The neighbours would all be up and out dog walking, running, cycling, taking the kids to football training, doing noisy DIY or gardening themselves.

Blanketpolicy · 02/04/2024 14:04

The world shouldn't have to walk around on tiptoes till lunchtime on a Sunday because someone somewhere might fancy a lie in.

The weekend is the only time most people have to do DIY/stuff in the garden and waiting to 10am is considerate.

missshilling · 02/04/2024 14:10

We weren’t up and about at 10am on Sunday, or the Sunday before that. However, I don’t think it’s an unreasonable time to use a chainsaw.

Out of consideration for our neighbours my husband tries to use an electric chainsaw rather than petrol at home, whatever the time.

namechangeaaargh · 02/04/2024 14:21

As I work late most saturday nights I prefer to sleep late on sunday morning. Controversial I know. Earplugs are ineffective againt a petrol chainsaw that's just a few metres away. Well mine are anyway. If anyone knows of a good brand please let me know.

I haven't been stewing, it's just that another neighbour asked me about it this morning as they thought it was us making the noise. My partner was also cross and he is normally incredibly laid back. So I was wondering whether to have a friendly word, but given the consensus I won't.

I raised my eyebrows at our neighbour's who had similar machines outside at 9 on Easter Sunday, after the clock change.
I'm usually a "get on with it, it's nearly mid morning" but think the clocks and Easter combined means they should have waited.

Bagwyllydiart · 02/04/2024 14:44

Completely fine

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 02/04/2024 14:49

Sorry but 10am is fine. We wait until 9am on a Saturday and 10am on a Sunday, can't waste all morning waiting to get jobs done just because someone else might still be asleep.

fightingthedogforadonut · 02/04/2024 14:49

10am would be fine for me.

PietariKontio · 02/04/2024 14:53

I work on the 8 - 9 - 10 plan. 8 on weekdays, 9 on Saturdays, 10 on Sundays. I think that's fair and would effect the fewest amount of people. Locally, most other people seem to have a similar plan. Very rarely one of us will break this, but it's usually a more urgent situation/job. No-one complains. QUite lucky around here I guess.

Flippin' 'eck, @namechangeaaargh - you can't go round asking if you are being unreasonable, and then accepting when people say yes you are! The whole of AIBU would die out if everyone did this. 😉🙂

Churchview · 02/04/2024 15:04

I live next door to a church and my bedroom looks out directly over the grave yard to the church tower. I'm absolutely not complaining as I love the church bells, but on Sunday morning they started ringing at 7.30am.

10am sounds a perfectly reasonable time for people to start going about their business. I've lived somewhere very remote in the past and until I did that I didn't realise how lovely it is to have life going on around you. When it's not there you can feel very alone and isolated.

It's far too early for me, but obviously not for others!

Moveoverdarlin · 02/04/2024 16:29

Completely acceptable. 10am is mid morning.

Dontbringthenoise · 02/04/2024 16:32

I absolutely agree it's unreasonable. Germany have laws banning the use of power tools and mowing lawns etc on a Sunday as they recognise the need for people to have a day of quiet. However this is Mumsnet where a door bell being rung or your family visiting is absolutely unreasonable but spending hours making noise in your garden is absolutely fine.

It's an issue for you. It certainly isn't for me.

Nothingandnobody · 02/04/2024 16:37

10am is absolutely fine. I'd been up with the dog for 3.5 hours by that time 😂

itsgettingweird · 02/04/2024 16:37

8am weekday, 9am Saturday and 10am Sunday all fine.

Yes - it's annoying if you are asleep and probably they should have considered the clock change but it's 10am so perfectly reasonable time x

clairelouwho · 02/04/2024 16:46

Perfectly reasonable.

Most people will be up by 10AM and you can't expect people to tailor their days around your desire to have a lie-in.
