To think that using a chainsaw at 10am on a Sunday is a bit early/inconsiderate?

Just that really. We were woken up by it and thought it was 9am as we hadn't yet changed the clocks.

I think it’s fine on a normal Sunday, on Easter Sunday and when the clocks have just changed I’d probably be a bit annoyed too though as my body clock would still be at 9am.

Universalsnail · 02/04/2024 10:55

I think 10 am is fine.

sandberry · 02/04/2024 11:15

Anytime after 7 is fine. Sunday isn’t a special day. Many shift workers are off on say Wednesdays but don’t expect the rest of the planet to cater to them. Nobody is entitled to a noise free lie in and if they are should we ban noise before 11 any day?

Ginkypig · 02/04/2024 11:17

they did nothing wrong.

i would be a bit annoyed too though if I was having a lie in and got woken up.

not their fault but natural to be annoyed at getting woken up but not at them.

8am onwards is fine to use power tools in a Sunday, it's very considerate of them to wait till 10 to be honest.

If Sunday isn't a special day then why do we have restricted retail etc hours?

Considering the clocks went forward, a decent neighbour would try to wait until 11, so 10 am start. Mowing the kawn before that us ok because of the volume. A chainsaw is akin to builders noise. Just because we are being forced to work more and more unreasonable shifts, doesn't mean that everything has to desend into a free for all. I'm up at 7 everyday, unfortunately I can't lie in, only nap later on.

DrJoanAllenby · 02/04/2024 12:31

That's a perfectly acceptable time.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/04/2024 12:34

10am is fine.

HelpMebeok · 02/04/2024 12:36

Sorry I agree. Assume most people would be awake by 9am. When you've got kids 10am sometimes feels like the middle of the day

OhmygodDont · 02/04/2024 12:40

By 10am the allotment was half full, lawn mowers going, last of burning the old dead wood etc

Its Sunday not a funeral 😂

This is exactly what I was thinking, by 9.30/10am here on Sunday, half the street was mowing/strimming their lawns (it was the first time in ages that the grass has been dry enough to mow). Several using leaf blowers to get the cut grass off their paths too. To be honest, I much prefer it on a Sunday morning rather than in the week when we're wfh.

PotatoPudding · 02/04/2024 12:51

100% OK.

IglesiasPiggl · 02/04/2024 12:53

10am is my start time for any noisy work. I would always wait until then. Personally I much prefer noise at 10am to noise at, say, 5pm.

CallMikeBanning · 02/04/2024 13:00

After 9am on a weekday or a Saturday and 10am on a Sunday so people don't get woken up by the noise.

I had neighbours before 8 AM doing work on a Sunday, that’s a piss take. 10 is fine.

Agree. 10am is fine. I would say any loud DIY on a weekend before 9am is inconsiderate.

CharlotteBog · 02/04/2024 13:18

I think it depends on how you were woken.
Were they revving it up right by your bed as you slept with an evil grin, or using it in their garden to do some tidying up?

Personally I wouldn't have used a chain saw on Easter morning but I am likely in the minority and wouldn't expect it of anyone else.

7am on a Sunday. I'm glad you are not chainsawing next to my (terrace) house at that time!

shoppingshamed · 02/04/2024 13:27

Totally fine by me too

Ariela · 02/04/2024 13:27

Depends on the reason: tree down blocking the road or road has to be closed with no traffic to get a tree down, 10am Easter Sunday might be the best time.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 02/04/2024 13:28

8am yes.
10am no.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 02/04/2024 13:31

You were still asleep?
Can't remember last time I was still asleep then.
Still lazing around maybe but not asleep
It's fine

It's not unusual for people to be sleeping at (what was 9am) on a Sunday morning. Most people are up and about, but many aren't. Do you think that everyone is up and about just because you are?

betterangels · 02/04/2024 13:45

10am is completely acceptable. I had upstairs hammering something at 5.30am this morning. That's too early.

anyolddinosaur · 02/04/2024 13:48

10 a.m is being considerate.

MonsteraMama · 02/04/2024 13:48

I frequently have big lie ins on Sundays but that's not really the rest of the world's problem. This is why I have a sleep mask with built in headphones. If the chainsaws and mowers come out, on goes a podcast and back to snooze land I go.
