To think that using a chainsaw at 10am on a Sunday is a bit early/inconsiderate?

Just that really. We were woken up by it and thought it was 9am as we hadn't yet changed the clocks.

10am is fine.

brocollilover · 02/04/2024 16:54

it's just that another neighbour asked me about it this morning as they thought it was us making the noise.

was the neighbour complaining?

YouwouldthinkIhavemoresense · 02/04/2024 16:55

I’d think they were taking the piss especially with it being Easter Sunday.

Our next door neighbour is constantly drilling/ sawing /hammering/ banging . Inside and outside the house.
High noons and holidays. He’s there.

It’s like living next to a construction workshop 🙄

namechangeaaargh · 03/04/2024 08:22

Ok how about dragging a very noisy wheelie bin back up to the house just before 7am.? It's a long driveway so it takes about a minute. Again woke me up. Again didn't get back to sleep.

No - 10am is mid morning!

Bin collections can start before then!

On a weekday? They're probably about to head off to work and otherwise it would be out all day.

These are just normal neighbourhood noises.

LuciferRising · 03/04/2024 08:27

This is what happens in life, when you live near other people.

10am is perfectly fine. People need to get on with their lives.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 03/04/2024 08:29

I think it's totally fine. Moving a wheely bin early is also fine if it stops it blowing down the street etc. The local council strongly recommends putting bins out on the day but to ready for 6:30am collection here. Most people would bring them straight back in after they are emptied to avoid them blowing over in the wind. It's a you problem, you need to find something that stops noise bothering you.

mondaytosunday · 03/04/2024 08:33

It was Easter Sunday and I didn't mow my lawn as I thought people would like a peaceful day.
What was the chainsaw used for? Noisy building work is usually not permitted on Sundays or Bank holidays.

Just before 7am isn't early to me on a weekday. Sorry 🤷‍♀️

I think that's absolutely fine. Lots of councils encourage people to put wheelie bins out the morning of rubbish collection so they're not blocking the paths for long, and of course in an ideal world they would be brought back in as soon as they've been emptied.
Do you have double glazed windows? I have never once heard my neighbours moving their wheelie bins if my windows are closed, let alone had it loud enough to wake me.

Kalevala · 03/04/2024 08:37

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 02/04/2024 10:34

Personally I wouldn't make that much noise until at least 11am on a Sunday

Would you stop after lunch for children's nap time?

CharlotteBog · 03/04/2024 08:38

I have dbl glazed windows and most definitely hear wheelie bins being dragged past my house.

GanninHyem · 03/04/2024 08:38

I think you need to move to a remote house. You're getting very irate by people doing perfectly acceptable things. Bins need to go out, you can't except people to not put them out because you're having a lie in. If the chainsaw was going on every single weekend you might have a appointment but even then 10am isn't particularly early, you just like waking up later. Which is fine but again the world keeps turning without you being awake

OhmygodDont · 03/04/2024 08:38

Pretty sure our council ask for bins to be out before 6:45am. They also ask that bins are not out on non collection days..

I'd have waited until 7 but easy to forget when you are up at 6.

BeansOnToast32 · 03/04/2024 08:45

10am is a luxury here! Everyone around me usually starts using lawn mowers and stuff before 8am. Drives me insane.

Even when the council start cutting the grass/hedges they get here anywhere between 7:30-8:30.

I live near to a recycling area that's in a car park and on this bank holiday morning at 7:15 the council emptied the bloody glass bottles. Must be 10-15 bottle bins so you heard every bit of glass smash when they emptied each bin.

Topseyt123 · 03/04/2024 08:47

10am is a perfectly good and normal time for this sort of thing. If you didn't adjust your clocks the night before and thought it was 9am then that's on you. By mid morning you should be expecting people to be getting on with their day.

As for moving bins at 7am - 7.30am, again no problem. Our bin men have been known to begin their rounds at about that time. Should I really be complaining about that? I'd rather see the rubbish collected to be honest.

Stop being ridiculous and grumpy!

suki1964 · 03/04/2024 08:50

Our bin men are here dead on 7.10 am so yep, bins go out at 7 - if not before

Get the drive paved or tarmac

I think you are being overly sensitive to normal noise from this neighbour. Has something else happened thats making you focus on them?

Love the fact you were extra-frothing because you thought it was 9 o'clock.

well, it wasn't it was 10 o'clock on Sunday.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 03/04/2024 08:51

It’s as annoying as other people making loud noises is always annoying. But it’s not something to get upset about. They weren’t really doing anything wrong.

Kalevala · 03/04/2024 08:52

Mrssheepskin · 03/04/2024 08:23

No - 10am is mid morning!

And 9am mid morning on GMT, so the clocks changing made no difference.

As I work late most saturday nights I prefer to sleep late on sunday morning. Controversial I know. Earplugs are ineffective againt a petrol chainsaw that's just a few metres away. Well mine are anyway. If anyone knows of a good brand please let me know.

I haven't been stewing, it's just that another neighbour asked me about it this morning as they thought it was us making the noise. My partner was also cross and he is normally incredibly laid back. So I was wondering whether to have a friendly word, but given the consensus I won't.

Recommend these ear plugs: BioEars Soft Silicone Earplugs

namechangeaaargh · 03/04/2024 08:55

Triple glazed. And internal wall insulation. Detached, But their driveway (which is where they used the saw) is right next to the edge of our house. Previous neighbours were fine, this lot were for a while but have changed habits or got noisier or something, these 2 things I mentioned are not isolated but I am not going to elaborate further.

They used to either leave the bin out til the weekend or bring it up in the evening both of which were preferable. They were bringing it in today not putting it out. I don't hear the bin men come because our houses are a long way back from the road.
