To think that using a chainsaw at 10am on a Sunday is a bit early/inconsiderate?

Just that really. We were woken up by it and thought it was 9am as we hadn't yet changed the clocks.

10am is fine. Why would it not be?

If it was this weekend, they were probably just trying to get the work done in between downpours.

10am is mid morning.

Most people have been up 3 hours by then.

CosmosQueen · 03/04/2024 12:56

It reminds me of the Londoners with weekend cottages in our village who moan about cows mooing, tractors driving down the High Street, horse poo and cow poo on the roads that gets splattered on their Ferraris and posh SUVs.
The latest whinge is that there are puddles…..🙄😵‍💫

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/04/2024 13:35

Tangential, at best, but I once bought a book on papercutting (using a scalpel to cut lacy paper patterns) via Amazon marketplace, and received The Homeowner's Guide to the Chainsaw - not quite the same hobby, IMO. 😂

No, 'most' people do not get up at 7 (or even 6.30 as one of the other halo-polishing posts boasts) on the Sunday of a Bank Holiday weekend. Some people do.

I think 10's fine myself, but bloody hell, what's with the judgement and early-riser virtue-signalling on this thread? People who get up earlier aren't morally superior to those who don't, sorry to burst the bubble.

StarbucksQueen1 · 03/04/2024 20:01

10am?! You kidding?! My son wakes at 530am… 10 is midday!

OhmygodDont · 03/04/2024 20:10

Even on a good good day there is no way I’m not out of bed by 10am or awake in bed at 10am.

Deathbyfluffy · 03/04/2024 20:13

While technically fine, stuff like this winds me up too.
I got some decent double-glazing fitted and it's no longer an issue - I reckon a bomb could go off up the road and I'd be none the wiser!

LlynTegid · 03/04/2024 20:15

Depends on the use of the chainsaw!

RedRobyn2021 · 03/04/2024 20:28

10am! I've usually been up 4 hours by then

AmyFl · 04/04/2024 00:52

It's much too early.

Noyesnoyes · 04/04/2024 02:06

Does seem reasonable.

shams05 · 04/04/2024 04:49

I always try and wait until 11 on a Sunday. Even when the kids were small, they could only play outside after 11, especially if they were going to ride their bikes or play with a ball.

Marchingonagain · 04/04/2024 06:53

namechangeaaargh · 03/04/2024 08:22

Ok how about dragging a very noisy wheelie bin back up to the house just before 7am.? It's a long driveway so it takes about a minute. Again woke me up. Again didn't get back to sleep.

This is unreasonable. 10am on a Sunday is fine. If the bin thing happens again I’d have a polite wird

BusyMummy001 · 04/04/2024 08:37

Unless your specific local council or housing association has specific rules, then noise on a Sunday between 10am-2pm is generally acceptable for one-off domestic chores (like using a chainsaw to trim trees and hedges).

Professional companies are usually not allowed to work/use noisy machinery at weekends except between 9am-1pm on Saturdays, but there are no laws prohibiting home owners/residents from doing DIY/mowing laws etc any time, although doing it a 4am in the morning, for example, would be unreasonable.

10am on a Sunday? No issue, even if it is annoying. Apparently 1 in four people feel that running a washing machine/tumbler dryer after 8pm is unreasonable (YouGov) so clearly there are some grumpy neighbours out there.

I'd let kids out earlier. We're already a society spending too much time inside, on devices. Get them outside before they become too old and prefer sitting in their rooms.

I'm really shocked to hear that 25% of people think using a washing machine or tumble dryer after 8 is unreasonable, especially given that for people on Economy 7 electric it is cheaper to use electric late at night. When we were on economy 7, our washing machine, tumblrdryer and dishwasher went on at around 11pm. We can only hear our neighbours' washing machine's spin cycle if we're in our kitchen, and it's not loud enough to bother us.

I was, too, for the same reason! Also, if you work all day when the hell else are you supposed to do your laundry?

Seems we have just become incredibly intolerant over recent years with everyone expecting the world to revolve around their own, personal little havens of peace and tranquility!

Yes just thinking the same, pre pandemic when we commuted to the office every day, I'd have never managed to get through my laundry if it was restricted to before 8pm. Now I tend to pop it on before work on a wfh day.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 04/04/2024 09:20

When my ILs had a house in France it was illegal to mow the lawn on a Sunday. Basically, Sunday was a rest day (apart from the hunters blasting away, of course). I don't know if it's still the law but the French are pretty civilised about that kind of thing. I would be mightily upset at a chainsaw going at 10am on a Sunday even though, as a pp said, it could've been in between showers. I would prefer a quiet morning for everyone. But then I'm old - I remember when shops weren't open on a Sunday and it was a day of rest for most people.

Perhaps they don’t live in detached houses.

I prefer it when my neighbours' kids are out nice and early. My garden gets the afternoon and evening sun so it's nice to be able to sit out quietly then.

I time mine to come on to finish at 7am so I can get it out before work. Are people putting it out late at night?

We have to put our bins out by 6.30 on the morning of collection, according to the council.
