Not a fan myself. Though like my colleague's one as its a tribute to her late DH. It's his country code which see on vehicles (he was born and raised abroad) his home city's code and first 3 letters of name.

Anyway the few ideas have been taken as found cars attached to them on gov's mot check site. Why should I spend £00s or £000s on a number plate?

Most European countries don't offer them

You’re not a fan but you’re researching possible plates? Why? Are you a sheep?

Yeah, it’s disgraceful that they’re compulsory in the UK, it’s another tax really. Start one of those government petitions to make it voluntary - I’d sign. ✍️

You could just, you know, not buy one?

Completely optional.

I'll get flamed here, but I think they're totally cringe. A bit of a wankers badge.

Each to their own, whatever floats your boat, horses for courses and all that and my opinion matters not a jot to the person with the car.

"Why should I spend £00s or £000s on a number plate?"

Well there's an easy answer to that...!

What an odd thread, you don't have to buy a number plate, there is one already on the car

No, you won’t get flamed. Its peak Mumsnet to have strong anti-private plate opinions and label other people ‘twats’ or ‘chavs’ for having them. You’re doing great, well done!

Do you often fall so quickly into traps? Grin

I did the research 1-2 years ago.

Very California wanker in the 90s

STBXH is has one (based on his name) and he’s a total wanker. That’s more a statement about him than anything generalisable though.

I agree with the other though that this is a non-problem; if you don’t want a personalised number plate, you can just have the plate the car was registered with.

The only good personal number plate I have seen was when I was growing up there was a bloke with a fancy sports car. The reg was
EG0 B0X

Randomly my MIL inherited a rare personal number plate - 3 digits - 1 number, 2 letters e.g. 7GB
She sold it to a specialist dealer for £25k

Also, you don't have to get one

My dad has one based on his nickname, it only means something to family and it's ended up becoming a joke within the family. I think it's lovely and I hope he keeps the plate forever

Um, you shouldn’t? Because you’re not a fan and don’t want one? So what’s the problem…?

Read your post three times and nope, still have no idea what you’re on about. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I want one that says “AIBU” or “LTB”.

”ODFOD” would be a bit aggressive, I think.

What is it that you're asking here...I genuinely don't get the point of your thread 🤷‍♀️ You literally don't have to spend a single penny on a number plate! 🤦‍♀️

Loads of folk have them here, to look 'unique', even teenagers on their first car. It just helps identify the bad drivers (of all ages) as it's a small enough community to recognise plates.

There's a good one in our area, POO 2TAX ... owner is an accountant.

There's a few funny/appropriate ones like that but mostly they're a bit naff. If people want to spend their money on them fine, if you don't then don't.

It wasn’t, could’ve been E60 BOX though but that’s not currently on a car either.

My neighbours have them and it's cute. It also would help when parking if asked your registration number
