Personalised numberplates - many of F&F have them

Not a fan myself. Though like my colleague's one as its a tribute to her late DH. It's his country code which see on vehicles (he was born and raised abroad) his home city's code and first 3 letters of name.

Anyway the few ideas have been taken as found cars attached to them on gov's mot check site. Why should I spend £00s or £000s on a number plate?

Most European countries don't offer them

OP posts:

Each to their own, if you don’t like them don’t buy one

I personally like them and have had one for over 20 years

SlipperyLizard · 29/03/2024 07:59

My mum has one and I sometimes remember when I borrow her car and then cringe a bit that people might think it is my choice!

ThePoshUns · 29/03/2024 08:05

What's an F&F?

Yeah, it’s disgraceful that they’re compulsory in the UK, it’s another tax really. Start one of those government petitions to make it voluntary - I’d sign. ✍️

What?

The only good personal number plate I have seen was when I was growing up there was a bloke with a fancy sports car. The reg was
EG0 B0X

It wasn’t, could’ve been E60 BOX though but that’s not currently on a car either.

Good Lord, you've looked that up have you? 🙄

It was an anecdote about when she was a child. Who cares if it's 'currently on a vehicle' or whatever it was you said.

GreatGateauxsby · 29/03/2024 08:07

In germany its done as standard

QuillBill · 29/03/2024 08:07

What?

(It was a joke) Because the OP inferred she had to spend thousands on a personal number plate and she didn't want to.

I thought from the title this was going to be about Fast & Furious. 🚘

I thought it was going to be about the Tesco clothing brand.Grin

OMGitsnotgood · 29/03/2024 08:09

They used to be considered a status symbol, now I agree they are cringey and naff. But no-one has to have one so it's a non-issue really .

Swoopy · 29/03/2024 08:09

You could save money by changing your name to RG64 7TP

The oldies are the best 😂

What's an F&F?

Glad you asked this. So I’m not the only person who has no clue 🤷‍♀️

Ryegait · 29/03/2024 08:11

I'm not a fan of them, but each to their own.

A fool and his money and all that ....

Glitterbiscuits · 29/03/2024 08:13

F and F

Fast and Furious
Florence and Fred

Give me a clue?

PotatoPudding · 29/03/2024 08:13

I am one of those wankers with a private plate. In over 20 years, I have never kept a car more than two years but never had to remember a new registration number.

NeedToChangeName · 29/03/2024 08:13

I think they're naff, and wouldn't waste my money

But, I guess they do have a value, if other people would buy them off you

pootlin · 29/03/2024 08:14

SweetFemaleAttitude · 29/03/2024 07:14

I'll get flamed here, but I think they're totally cringe. A bit of a wankers badge.

Each to their own, whatever floats your boat, horses for courses and all that and my opinion matters not a jot to the person with the car.

I agree with you, when ever I see a personalised plate, I think they’re a wanker.

This. They don't really anything good about you.

ThePoshUns · 29/03/2024 08:18

Ah.
I bought one for my som for his 21st.
It's his initials and his year of birth.
I wanted to get him something he would keep forever. He didn't want jewellery/ watch so I thought it was a good present and so does he.
Each to their own.

Mine is my initials and year of birth.

FussyPud · 29/03/2024 08:21

Somebody I used to know accidentally got a vanity plate when she bought her new car, as the new plate option when registered contained her initials and day/month of her birthday on. One less thing she had to remember.

Clearinguptheclutter · 29/03/2024 08:25

I find it pretty cringe
dh has one on the family car but it’s in the normal format so you wouldn’t know unless we explained it to you. No I don’t get it either but it is at least easy to remember

my neighbours get a mention though. They have their initials plus their birth year plus FFS on their matching cars!!!

Surely that's a postcode not a car reg 😁

WhataPithy · 29/03/2024 08:27

I always thought they were very naff but now both of our cars have one Grin First DH got one for his car, it was about £250 and has now gone up in value should he want to sell it.

My latest car came with a personalised plate (wonder what happened there), it doesn’t mean anything, it looks similar to something like this LII EPP, I’m going to keep it going forward as it’s so easy to remember!

Bluebell247 · 29/03/2024 08:27

@PotatoPudding the fact you've never kept a car more than 2 years seems to fit with having a personalised plate
