Sadly Spain is providing ample evidence of why this is all a terrible idea.

Spain’s ‘trans equality’ law is a predator’s charter

Gender self-ID has eviscerated women’s rights.

It’s all a bit of a smokescreen. Self id or gender recognition certificate, same old bull shit.

The fact is in the U.K. (worse in Scotland) , a male can claim he’s a woman and eg. Enter women’s categories on sports, go into women’s safe spaces and the rest of it. A male can call himself a woman and rape a child, woman, man, and be recorded as a woman on police records.he could even go to a women’s prison.

No one can ask for a GRC nor are they bound to show it. As any male who wishes to abuse the female sex knows. Yes the Spanish self id has made the consequences very clear - but let’s not fool ourselves.

Extreme trans ideology is indeed a charter for male predators. If you open the door to some men, you open the door to ALL men.

It is here and it will only get worse under a Labour government - whilst they tell us all that thousands of women have penises.

The only way to change it is to make biological sex a protected characteristic in the Equality Act.

Edited

I agree but would add:

  • repeal the GRA
  • make it unlawful to conceal birth sex

On the latter, i fear we may be in for a horror if there's a Labour administration and/Labour deal with other, even more captured parties.

The worst GE outcome would be a deal between parties. Women and children will be viewed as collateral damage.

BIossomtoes · 29/03/2024 17:57

Women and children will be viewed as collateral damage.

At least fewer of them will be living in poverty and rapists and domestic abusers will be convicted.

Absym · 29/03/2024 18:13

Is this what it has come to, women - would you rather live on beans and bread, or be raped in the changing rooms by a man who says he’s a woman?

Fck the patriarchy. There’s no room to vote for a man who thinks some women have penises. None at all.

Many women and children will always live in poverty, just with less rights.

And under Labour it's likely that some of those rapists and domestic abusers will be incarcerated with vulnerable females if they identify as women.

I don’t think that’s Labour policy. Annilese Dodds said:

We will make sure that nothing in our modernised gender recognition process would override the single-sex exemptions in the Equality Act. Put simply, this means that there will always be places where it is reasonable for biological women only to have access. Labour will defend those spaces, providing legal clarity for the providers of single-sex services.

ResisterRex · 29/03/2024 19:20

where it is reasonable for biological women

What's "reasonable"? Will this be Keirsplained at a later date?

Given all the places the Tory government isn’t protecting, perhaps it should explain its policy on what’s reasonable. Clearly it doesn’t think prisons are a reasonable place for only biological women to access.

ResisterRex · 29/03/2024 19:32

So will Dodds use SoS powers under the GRA to exclude males from female prisons? That's great. Please provide a link to that as I'd like to write to her, to support this, as well as to copy it to the Tory SoS so they can all see how women feel about this issue.

People can vote for who they like.

I’m not going to vote for the Labour party whilst their leader ‘believes’ 🙄 that thousands of women have penises.

Tories don’t do themselves any favours either. All in it for themselves - I’ve worked with them unfortunately.

Our local Tory cllr has protected someone accused of a sexually motivated attack including stalking - later exposed for DV. They’ll never get my vote.

Women will have to fight for their rights all over again- I don’t doubt that for a second!

BIossomtoes · 29/03/2024 19:38

I didn’t say that, did I? I pointed out that there’s no Tory definition. This twisting people’s words is why there’s no debate.

Well. I'm still waiting for when it's "reasonable". Expect it'll never come.

That’s because this ideology is being pushed and promoted in the universities, in schools and through the left wing media.

This!
DH worked at a university and had several years to retirement; in the end he gave his notice in and left several years early. As the father of two dd’s he couldn’t cope with all this shit being indoctrinated into the students.
It’s actually career sucide to disagree with these views; anyone who disagrees is managed out.

I note you still haven't commented on the effect of self ID on the rape victim's rights as related in the article in the OP. Do you agree self ID is having a detrimental effect on female take victim's rights and as feminists we should be fighting it? If not why not?

Could you link to where Starmer has said this is official Labour policy please? Although he flip flops so often who could trust him.

Im so fucking sick of having to repeat this but here we go again...The reason this shit has "happened under the Tories" is because its a global trend which has taken hold in almost all developed countries. It was going to happen whichever party was in power. There has, at least, been some push back under the current government (Cass review, clarification of the Equality Act etc).

I believe protection of womens rights and an exploratory approach for people experiencing gender distress will be much less likely with any other party in power at Westminster apart from the Conservatives. You can choose to put your fingers in your ears or decide that other issues are more important but dont kid yourself that womens rights arent going to be fucked under Labour.

It's a global trend but who is it that's pushing this madness? Who is behind it all? All seems very sinister to me.

Can't just be the work of liberal headcases.

User135644 · 29/03/2024 20:09

BloodyHellKenAgain · 28/03/2024 21:54

Now come on, I really dont think that's true. Look at how The Guardian reports this nonsense compared to The Times and (whisper it) the Daily Heil.

Also, look at how The Guardian treated Suzanne Moore and Hadley Freeman.

The Guardian has barely any readership. I know the website does okay but it's print circulation is a joke. It's well behind the right wing papers like the Mail and the Sun.

It's the paper for liberals.

Why do you need Starmer to say it? The relevant shadow minister has said it.

Julie Burchill said it best

‘Labour leader Keir Starmer thinks it’s wrong to say only women have cervixes, David Lammy believes a cervix is something you can develop with hormone treatment, Dawn Butler claims that babies are born without a ‘sex’, while Anneliese Dodds says that the meaning of the word ‘woman’ depends on ‘context’. The Transmaids of Labour think it’s shocking how few rapists are convicted – but they’re fine with actual convicted rapists being allowed to serve their time in women’s prisons if they identify as such’

you can vote Labour AND fight for women's sex based rights you know! There's loads of us . We just know the Tories are a CON and have done nothing for women especially not the poorest women!

Absym · 30/03/2024 20:18

@Cancelledcurio I’m afraid not. The Labour Party do not respect women. They don’t even know how to define women. They think some women can have penises.

So no. Labour are actively against sex-based rights. Any party who states that some women have penises’, do not understand biology, by definition they can’t protect it.

As JB said

‘Labour leader Keir Starmer thinks it’s wrong to say only women have cervixes, David Lammy believes a cervix is something you can develop with hormone treatment, Dawn Butler claims that babies are born without a ‘sex’, while Anneliese Dodds says that the meaning of the word ‘woman’ depends on ‘context’. Women who support Labour can’t possibly support women’s sex based rights. That’s like voting Tory and saying you will fight for the poor people. Complete contradiction.
