Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

I was in the same class as Pete McKee the artist who has done artwork for Oasis, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Paul Smith, Rhoda Dakar, he did the posters for the Youth Cancer Trust gigs at the Royal Albert Hall.

Yes I did but it would be very outing for me to say who it was.

How small was your school if naming the school you went to would 'out' you?!

GingersOwner26 · 20/03/2024 01:27

Not school, but a couple who have been in the news a lot and in a lot of threads on here at the moment were in the year below me at university. I didn't know them myself, but did know someone from their hall who told me "He's basically okay, but his friends are a bunch of twats".

GingersOwner26 · 20/03/2024 01:35

Actually, does someone who did one episode of Merlin count?

Onceuponatimeiwasahoe · 20/03/2024 01:39

Dawn French taught drama at my school. When she left for better things, she sang 'We'll meet again' by Vera Lynn over the school tannoy.

Love this 😂

Roger Whittaker’s (The 1970’s folk singer) daughter Jessica. A very confident and glamorous girl.

Not in the same class but a well known female TV presenter who has recently faced quite a bit of backlash and has stepped down from her long running daytime tv slot (her co presenter/friend also faced errr… let’s say, a teeny bit of controversy and stepped down too)

What was she like at school? Was she academic?

dontmakeitaweproblem · 20/03/2024 02:01

My first boyfriend ( when I was 12) grew up to be a moderately successful actor.

ToWhitToWhoo · 20/03/2024 02:20

No- unless you count the one whose claim to fame was that she had once nearly been run over by Ilie Nastase!

fridaynight1 · 20/03/2024 02:30

I was a school friend of a famous rock and roll star (not Oasis)
DH bumped into him a couple of years back and DH couldn't resist mentioning me 😧 It made my day that he told DH that he remembered me. And he said hi 😋
Adult DDs were with DH at the time - they had absolutely no clue who he was.
They thought he was some random old bloke that knew their dad.
I don't think DH actually believed I knew him so it was quite cool to have it confirmed.

Olivegardenishome · 20/03/2024 03:10

Tamara Ecclestone. She wasn’t hugely famous but kind of was. She’s always been so down to earth, kind and way more intelligent than portrayed by media/social media.

Cantabulous · 20/03/2024 03:11

Jimmy Tarbuck’s daughter Liza was my house captain. I thought she was amazing.

I'm honestly curious! Why are people assumed to be journalists in so many threads?

Because Mumsnet threads are used as the basis for multiple articles in the Daily Mail ?

It's cheap journalism.

Luminiiii · 20/03/2024 04:02

I went to college with a BBC breakfast newsreader -NW- who made my life absolute hell!

ayvasili · 20/03/2024 04:53

I went to boarding school and was in the same year as Sienna Guillory. She went from being kind to being an complete bitch and a bully who beat me up and sprayed hairspray in my eyes.
I still get angry when she pop up on my screen lol

Someone i went to school with had 1 line in a harry potter film, and was in 1 episode of the bill. he was a total arsehole and thought he was better than everyone else because he was ‘famous’

Yes I did but it would be very outing for me to say who it was.

Surely it would only be outing if it was only you and this person in this school?

sunights · 20/03/2024 05:23

I was at a girls state school with a few daughters of high profile politicians (one is now in the Lords) and reasonably well known journalists and broadcasters etc.
Each girl was impacted by their parent's status/fame differently. One was a bit of a brat with it (she'd have her photo appear in the Evening Standard society pages then act out and be horrible to unpopular kids) - but she hated being the only one of her siblings who had to go to a state school (which was done to protect her dad's career), and in hindsight may of also unknowingly found the limelight stressful. The others I knew were all generally pretty humble about it.

Barleycat · 20/03/2024 05:32

Shazia Mirza was in my class at junior school. Its odd that she's now several years younger than me...

I don't know who she is, but that's hilarious.

Twatusauras · 20/03/2024 05:52

Daniel Osborne from TOWIE.

He was seen as the bees knees back then, I even think some teachers fancied him.
