Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

Was at college with one of the writers on Casualty. A few years later I taught one of the actors on Casualty, though neither were famous when I knew them.

Totally outing but never mind! Not school though make of that what you will. DH and I used to frequent Michelle Fairley's (GOT currently in The Gone BBC1) dads pub! She's lovely! Also lovely is Jimmy Nesbit a local, Jamie Dornan a sort of local and Rory McIlroy. Darren Clarke is ok I guess lol. Maximum points for guessing where I live lol

I guess you are in Coleraine? My DH went to school with James Nesbitt and is friendly with the Fairleys through years of drinking in their pub!! He knew Brian Fairley, and keeps in touch with Paul!

Janet Mcteer the actress went to my school in York….she was a few years ahead of me….think she was year 10 when I was year 7

MealDeal1 · 19/03/2024 23:46

I was in a theatre group with the actress Claire Goose. She is a few years older than me and went off to drama school in London after a couple of years, but I remember her being a really nice girl

Notmyname89 · 19/03/2024 23:47

I went to the same school as Alexandra Burke. She was 2 years above me! Always got the main parts in the school plays/musicals.

also, went to drama school (same class) as Belinda Owusu (known for Eastenders & Holby City) Jessica Agomba, who is a professional song writer but was in a girl band (unsuccessfully) before this and Charlie Jones, who played Ben Mitchell at some point in Eastenders. Bet you can’t guess where I grew up. Hahah!

all very humble, except Charlie. He was young though and it got to his head a little.

Lostsadandconfused · 19/03/2024 23:52

Yes, a very famous pop singer known only by one name.

She was a total sweetie, and apparently still is.

Wishiwasincornwall · 19/03/2024 23:53

My daughter went to school with a girl. Who was on the voice kids. She was an insufferable narcissist years before the show, getting knocked out in the second episode didn't humble her at all she became worse. One of her regular supply teachers had been on deal or no deal before he moved to the school which the kids thought was cool then after a year at school he disappeared... Only to show up as a WWE wrestler. He was absolutely lovely, down to earth and the kids adored him.

Members of a group who topped the charts with Captain Sensible.

Grand Daughter of a famous American author noted for his fascism.

Pinksnowstars · 20/03/2024 00:16

I went to school with Robyn Cowen the football commentator. She was lovely!

a friend works with her now, and says she’s just as lovely as she was back then.

HollyKnight · 20/03/2024 00:20

I went to school with a girl who went on to become a famous TV presenter. She had just finished 6th year when she got her first media job. She came back to the school to see her teachers and everyone was really excited for her. I remember her as being very focused and determined. She was always involved in plays and activities. A nice girl.

I also knew a boy who joined a pop group (not a traditional pop band) and was still touring with them until a few years ago. He's still crazy but still a good egg.

And I have a cousin who played in a band who were in the charts in the early 2000's during the whole indie rock/SKA revival era. They're still very down to earth and now teach music to children.

I was at school with lots of kids of famous people (80s pop stars, a very famous model, and randomly a former communist dictator. That made a bit of GCSE history awkward).

They were mostly all very normal, by the standards of my school. But it was a posh and arty madhouse!

A posh and arty madhouse - Bedales, by any chance?? 🤣

Attended boarding school.
1 year above me, same boarding house, daughter of a very, very well known billionaire.
She didn’t have to share a dorm and had her own room all the way through school (usually reserved only for 6th form girls)
Bodyguard (female) in the adjoining room to her in the house. None of the other girls were ever introduced to the bodyguard which I always thought was very odd.
i didn’t really click or become friends with this billionaire’s daughter - her main interests were smoking behind tuck shop, whereas I was a bit of a swot. Notably she carried an expensive IT bag (can’t remember what), and wore makeup with uniform, but didn’t particularly find her snobby etc. I did like her, found her to be similar to many of the girls at school. But the baseline was off as international boarding school.
She did once arrive at school in a helicopter though.

If you were to have met her as a 15year old you would not have foreseen the extremely high glamour person she is an adult.

Oooh, I would love to know who this is!!!

I dated someone who was on Big Brother and then got big on YouTube. They then were accused of quite serious allegations. I never followed what ended up happening but apparently they are rebuilding their career and are big on social media again

Please tell me you didn't date Andrew Tate 🙈

Lucyintheskywithcubiczirconia · 20/03/2024 00:39

Not in the same class but a well known female TV presenter who has recently faced quite a bit of backlash and has stepped down from her long running daytime tv slot (her co presenter/friend also faced errr… let’s say, a teeny bit of controversy and stepped down too)

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 20/03/2024 00:43

My daughter 's friends cousin is a famous actress. But I never went to school with anyone famous nor did DD. I've met a few famous people at work though.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/03/2024 00:44

I briefly had Philip Pullman as an English teacher. He was in charge of the school show when we did the tale of The Trojan Horse.

brainexplorer · 20/03/2024 00:45

2 boys in my class were semi-regularly on MTV with their band when we were in 6th form. They were nice and normal. They finished their A'Levels then went on tour. The band is no longer together but one of them continued touring with other bands for a while.

Twins a couple of years below me were the prostitutes in a Wayne Rooney scandal not long after they finished school.

Has she always spoken like that? I don’t know how you describe it, like throaty but not at the same time!

Iunderstandto · 20/03/2024 00:52

I went to school with a fairly famous actor/dancer who was also a child star. She was a few years above me but strangely is now apparently the same age 😄. She was awful and really full of herself.
Also at my school was the daughter of a fairly famous producer/director. She was not nice at all and I remember how much I hated her laughing at the children who were there on scholarships/grants.

ButterflyKu · 20/03/2024 00:54

Tammy Abraham. Always nice to everyone in school even though he was making a shitload of money back then too

I'm not very far from you.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 20/03/2024 00:56

Nobody from my school.

A few people from my uni became famous later on, and a few had famous parents or other relatives at the time. Only one was just starting to become famous when we were still there - she has been very successful since then.

DD is 18 and knew one person from her primary school (slightly older) who is already pretty well known as an actress. And another who she did an extracurricular activity with, who is becoming well known as a singer.

Yes, her voice is pretty much how I remember it!
