Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

i went to school with a very famous professional boxer’s daughter. She wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the box but she behaved normally and otherwise blended in

Same here.

@Starlightstarbright3 😑

thecatsarecrazy · 20/03/2024 06:08

Not me but I was talking to someone once who said he went to school with dane bowers, said he was a pain in the arse, weird. Always causing trouble like deliberately setting off the fire alarm. Think he said he got expelled.

Maternityleavelady · 20/03/2024 06:08

Also went to school with someone who later became a bit like Katie Price but less famous. She stood out at school for her good looks, good body, confidence. I am not surprised she became a minor celebrity

thecatsarecrazy · 20/03/2024 06:10

Just realised I missed the point of thread... he wouldn't have been famous then 😒

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 20/03/2024 06:12

Famous back then? No. Well, a classmate was the national champion in her sport and placed second (or first? 🤔) in the world championships. But the sport wasn’t popular enough for her to have been considered famous by most people’s standards, I suppose.

Famous now? Yes.

urrrgh46 · 20/03/2024 06:12

I went to school with a famous Motorcross rider. Not sure whether to name him. He was a world champion multiple times. I'm late 40s for context. He was in my English class for GCSE.

Globules · 20/03/2024 06:25

I had a world champion in their sport in my A level class.

He was rather up himself, thought any girl would fall at his feet.

I would have done, but he never asked.

Why would he? He was hanging out with lithe 17 year olds with shared interests and there was me enjoying watching him perform on TV from the sofa, eating cake and crisps, and a body to show for it 😉

Haven't thought about him for ages... Just googled. Can't find him, so he can't have maintained his success.

jasminocereusbritannicus · 20/03/2024 06:26

Not immediately recognised as famous- Adam Godley.
He was a child Actor in a TV’s Horseman Riding By and BBC’s adaptation of Moonfleet ( main character) when I was in Secondary School, and has gone on to be in loads of films … Mr TeeVee in Charlie and the chocolate factory, one of he giants in BFG, Elizabeth the Golden Age and others…. Also in Suits! Stage acting too…was Kenneth Williams in a play that escapes my recall at the moment!
oh and he was the teacher in Love Actually, when they’re all singing all I want for Christmas…🤭

Chimchar · 20/03/2024 06:26

I was really good friends with someone who was a presenter on 'why don't you'. 😁
He was great fun as a kid.

she's now several years younger than me...

I don't know who she is, but that's hilarious.

Actually it’s so strange reading this as when I moved to Aus, I made a friend and we shared lots about our lives. She told me she went to school with Margot Robbie, who I didn’t know anything about. She showed me class photos of them and pics from when they used to go to each others houses as kids. Same kindergarten class and through the majority of their school, they were very close and usually in the same classes. My friend is 39. Margot is ‘33’. I always found that so strange 🤪

@jellytotsparkles 🤣 I wasn't sure she made it over here! I was friends with her sister. She was nice, ordinary, but I was star struck!!

Two great shows from my childhood! To be honest, she still seems nice and ordinary!

Monkeybutt1 · 20/03/2024 06:38

Until recently DS went to school with the grandson of a very famous, in the 80's and 90's, musician. He is a little shit and has been expelled. His mum, the daughter of said musician is narssistic and attention seeking, lives her life out on social media including all her marital problems and her sons problems at school. She doesn't share her dad's last name but has changed her name to his on social media.

One of the Milky Bar Kids went to my school, but he was a couple of years below me and I have no idea which one he was.

Same! I wonder if it's the same one?!

Forgot to say …he was a lovely chap, and in my general circle of friends in sixth form.

You don't have to mention names if you don't want to, just the "kind of fame" they had :)

Why would someone not want to mention their name? It's an anonymous forum?

OllyBJolly · 20/03/2024 06:51

Not really outing as I went to a huge, pretty rough, state school that produced several "celebs". Best known would be Lorraine Kelly who was always destined for great things - super cool, clever, in crowd. She was actually really nice. She started in local TV just after leaving. There was also actor John Hannah who was more one of the crowd. Band member of Altered Images who is now well known producer. Many footballers. Olympic and Commonwealth medallist. Great school, inspiring teachers most of us did not achieve great fame

BusyMummy001 · 20/03/2024 06:53

Odd thread. Very few children are famous in their own right unless they were in a HP film, I suppose.

Elizabeth Emanuel who made Diana’s wedding dress.

My ex-boyfriend shared a flat at uni with her son. He was a nice guy. I remember my parents being terribly impressed, but I wasn't because I was 2 when Charles and Di married.

Nobody at school, but I had a uni tutorial with Honeysuckle Weeks once, and I was very star struck 🤣 My friend had her tutorials with Dan Snow, who she said was very nice.

NotThisAgainSeriously · 20/03/2024 07:00

Lupita Nyongo! Primary school but not in the same class. She was lovely to everyone and really into drama and music, very talented even at a young age.

Shelledwarrior · 20/03/2024 07:11

Jade Jagger. She was sent to our boarding school after crashing her dad’s Rolls Royce (allegedly). Dad parked his very humble Honda Accord next to Mick’s RR for the Founder’s Day picnic and neither of my parents recognised him!
I remember how genuinely beautiful she was especially as I was very much an ugly duckling teen. The most stunning skin. She used to visit our common room (she was 2 years younger) and blag her way to having some of our toast. She bit me on the hand following my refusal to give her the piece I had just prepped for myself! She got expelled my first year at uni for sneaking out of school to meet up with boys out.

BronwenTheBrave · 20/03/2024 07:15

Kate Middleton.
I think. Of course she was called Tony Masterson in those days, before her op. But definitely her. Him.

Beezknees · 20/03/2024 07:17

I went to school with someone who became a DJ, I wouldn't say he's a household name but famous in the club scene. He was a couple of years below me though so I didn't know him that well.
