Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

Yes, very famous if that includes shoving her tits into the tabloids most weeks. Fortunately I've not seen her since.

I was at school with lots of kids of famous people (80s pop stars, a very famous model, and randomly a former communist dictator. That made a bit of GCSE history awkward).

They were mostly all very normal, by the standards of my school. But it was a posh and arty madhouse!

Bedales by any chance?

Minniliscious · 19/03/2024 22:58

@GladAllOver Katie Price?

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 19/03/2024 22:59

Jamelia was in the year above me at school. Was friends with the sister of someone in my class

Attended boarding school.
1 year above me, same boarding house, daughter of a very, very well known billionaire.
She didn’t have to share a dorm and had her own room all the way through school (usually reserved only for 6th form girls)
Bodyguard (female) in the adjoining room to her in the house. None of the other girls were ever introduced to the bodyguard which I always thought was very odd.
i didn’t really click or become friends with this billionaire’s daughter - her main interests were smoking behind tuck shop, whereas I was a bit of a swot. Notably she carried an expensive IT bag (can’t remember what), and wore makeup with uniform, but didn’t particularly find her snobby etc. I did like her, found her to be similar to many of the girls at school. But the baseline was off as international boarding school.
She did once arrive at school in a helicopter though.

If you were to have met her as a 15year old you would not have foreseen the extremely high glamour person she is an adult.

Go on - which billionaire?

I can’t see Richard Branson’s kids having a bodyguard…guessing Russian?

HappiestSleeping · 19/03/2024 23:01

I was at school with Rufus Sewell. He was the year above me.

Various members of the Byker Grove cast. Up themselves.

Might be the same school as me?

Name changed for this!

I went to school with Scarlett Johansson. She was in my little sister's year and used to come over, they were good friends. She was just becoming famous I suppose.

I went to high school with one of Steven Tyler's daughters (not Liv) and when he came to school we'd all act very unimpressed (ha!).

My friends big sister was the star of Sabrina the teenage witch (you may have never seen it!) and I used to go to their house and pretend not to be awe struck.

My friend went to school with the girl who did the 'my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard' song so I went to some parties with her.

Claire Danes hung out at the same park as me as a teenager.

Now guess where I grew up 🤣

You personally know Melissa Joan Hart??!

Clarissa Explains it all & Sabrina where two of my fave shows growing up and now I’m super super jealous, lucky you!!

mrsfindlay · 19/03/2024 23:10

I dated someone who was on Big Brother and then got big on YouTube. They then were accused of quite serious allegations. I never followed what ended up happening but apparently they are rebuilding their career and are big on social media again

ThatTimeIKnewFamousPeople · 19/03/2024 23:10

@jellytotsparkles 🤣 I wasn't sure she made it over here! I was friends with her sister. She was nice, ordinary, but I was star struck!!

Both shows were on Nickelodeon here in the 90’s so I’d be very surprised if anyone from that era didn’t know who she was! Kenan & Kel, Sister Sister etc among many other classic shows we also loved to watch back then. Good times & super jelly still! Also you know Kelis & have met Steve Tyler? I need to visit whichever state you’re in! I’m guessing L.A, California :)

Crispynoodle · 19/03/2024 23:22

Totally outing but never mind! Not school though make of that what you will. DH and I used to frequent Michelle Fairley's (GOT currently in The Gone BBC1) dads pub! She's lovely! Also lovely is Jimmy Nesbit a local, Jamie Dornan a sort of local and Rory McIlroy. Darren Clarke is ok I guess lol. Maximum points for guessing where I live lol

The Jam

Sheerwater Secondary School.

Did you know them? Been a fan of them, and PW since I was 15 ( now 58).

Pemberleyprobs · 19/03/2024 23:27

My DC’s classmate has a famous mum and she is literally one of the loveliest people I’ve ever met - totally normal, hardworking, humble.. joins in and supports the school/pupils with all kinds.. it’s restored my faith in celebrities!

Brabican · 19/03/2024 23:29

@HappiestSleeping
Orleans Park, late 70s?

CherryRipe1 · 19/03/2024 23:34

Twiggy went to my junior school and my sister was in her senior school class. At senior school.in another area I was in the same class as a page 3 girl.

Wincher · 19/03/2024 23:34

I was at school (though older than, was a prefect and told them off) with the daughters of some of the actors in Birds of a Feather, and more notably, two of Bob Geldof's daughters

Wincher · 19/03/2024 23:35

Actually only one sorry

aberamagold · 19/03/2024 23:35

I went to a very expensive boarding school, lots of children of people who were famous. Actors, successful entrepreneurs, musicians. Also royalty (not this country), close relatives of royalty (this country) and people famous for being very rich, or who were not famous but very very rich (definitely equivalent to billionaires now). The school had a helicopter pad for parents.
Most of them were just normal teenagers. But with very nice clothes.
Some of them had very difficult family backgrounds, got into drugs, and died young.
Nobody had bodyguards.

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 19/03/2024 22:17

I was in the same year as actor Mark Strong and the year above actor Pete Amory (was Pete Walton at school) who played Chris Tate in Emmerdale.
Also Mike Gascoyne British Formula One design engineer was also in my year.

Love Mark Strong!!
