Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

Simon from Blue was a couple of years above me and was very nice. It was a small school.

Attended boarding school.
1 year above me, same boarding house, daughter of a very, very well known billionaire.
She didn’t have to share a dorm and had her own room all the way through school (usually reserved only for 6th form girls)
Bodyguard (female) in the adjoining room to her in the house. None of the other girls were ever introduced to the bodyguard which I always thought was very odd.
i didn’t really click or become friends with this billionaire’s daughter - her main interests were smoking behind tuck shop, whereas I was a bit of a swot. Notably she carried an expensive IT bag (can’t remember what), and wore makeup with uniform, but didn’t particularly find her snobby etc. I did like her, found her to be similar to many of the girls at school. But the baseline was off as international boarding school.
She did once arrive at school in a helicopter though.

If you were to have met her as a 15year old you would not have foreseen the extremely high glamour person she is an adult.

mathanxiety · 19/03/2024 21:53

Yes, in Ireland, and a few classmates are now very well known.

scrivette · 19/03/2024 21:59

I went to school (same year) with someone who was acting in Grange Hill at the time, I could never remember her real name, only her characters name! She seemed really nice.

Were you taught by Miss Mackenzie?

x2boys · 19/03/2024 22:03

Lisa Riley was a couple of years below me but she a wasn't famous at the time ,she was loud and bubbley as I recall

Fleetheart · 19/03/2024 22:06

My friend was at drama school with Christopher Eccleston and once snogged him at a party. Does that count?

Laiste · 19/03/2024 22:07

Paul Merson.
Footballer.

I'm not remotely interested in football and wasn't back then either 😅

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 19/03/2024 22:08

I snogged the boy who grew up to be the person inside Makka Pakka. He was in my class and was mostly a stage actor in those days. Does that count? 😂

Busbygirl · 19/03/2024 22:11

Suzanne Charlton was in my year at school. When we were in primary school, Bobby just used to stand outside the gates chatting like any normal parent to everyone. My parents really liked him, it wasn’t a big deal then.
Amanda Foulkes and other daughters of United football players were also at school with me. No one thought anything of it.

xsquared · 19/03/2024 22:16

A couple of BBC soap actresses. Nothing really remarkable to talk about.

Another one, Nichola Paget's (70s actress) daughter was in my year. I think she went on to do TV work.

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 19/03/2024 22:17

I was in the same year as actor Mark Strong and the year above actor Pete Amory (was Pete Walton at school) who played Chris Tate in Emmerdale.
Also Mike Gascoyne British Formula One design engineer was also in my year.

I went to school with a girl who was a rising star in musical theatre.
She's famous in her own right in the West end now but her little sister is a very well known British actress.
Anyway, the musical theatre star was lovely but hardly ever there and never really seemed part of the class when she was there.

grandchild of famous author who became a model

@parietal Sophie Dahl?

BeechTree24 · 19/03/2024 22:28

Sinead O Connor, confident, arrogant. Rest of the family were nice people.

khaa2091 · 19/03/2024 22:34

American billionaires daughter who used to have care packages sent from home on Concorde.
The reason that she was at boarding school in the UK was because of several nearly successful attempts to forcibly kidnap them and sibling. Having watched their life from afar, I came to the conclusion that nothing was worth a life like that.

LaughterLentil · 19/03/2024 22:35

My best friend at school became a big 1980s model the summer she left school at age 16. She was everywhere and in everything for a few years. We used her Z-card to get ourselves into every swanky London nightclub and had an absolute ball. Sadly, modelling changed her; she became obsessed with her looks and spent hours looking in the mirror every day. I've never seen anyone take so long to get ready to go out! By age 20, we were no longer friends.

mitogoshi · 19/03/2024 22:37

Not me but dd was at school with some rugby players as they were on junior contracts with local team, 2 ended up playing for England. They were pretty full of themselves and the girls through themselves at them!

whyismysoupcold · 19/03/2024 22:41

My sibling's childhood best friend was one of the major characters in Game of Thrones. I used to go to their house all the time.

We had a couple of musicians in bands go to our school, but I didn't really know them.

Shetlands · 19/03/2024 22:45

When I was training to be a teacher, I did a term's teaching practice at the school Ronnie Barker's daughter attended (1973). She wasn't in my class though.

whereonthestair · 19/03/2024 22:46

I went to school with a very well known athlete, and a first division footballer, the athlete was lovely, shy but very clever, the footballer less so. I’ve since read the athlete wasn’t very happy at school, but I just remember her as very quiet.

ThatTimeIKnewFamousPeople · 19/03/2024 22:54

Name changed for this!

I went to school with Scarlett Johansson. She was in my little sister's year and used to come over, they were good friends. She was just becoming famous I suppose.

I went to high school with one of Steven Tyler's daughters (not Liv) and when he came to school we'd all act very unimpressed (ha!).

My friends big sister was the star of Sabrina the teenage witch (you may have never seen it!) and I used to go to their house and pretend not to be awe struck.

My friend went to school with the girl who did the 'my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard' song so I went to some parties with her.

Claire Danes hung out at the same park as me as a teenager.

Now guess where I grew up 🤣
