Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

Bros. So conceited even before fame. DB went to school with Paul Weller who was apparently an all round great guy.

WandsOut · 26/04/2024 10:40

No but I spent ages talking to a guy in the bank once who I recognised from school and so I went over and talked to him for about half an hour asking how things were going.

About a day later I realised he wasn't someone I went to school with at all.
He was Todd Carty. Tucker Jenkins from Grange Hill.
So in a way we all went to school with him.
He was very polite though to have a stranger interrogate him in a friendly way about everything he had done since he left school.
He did mention he had done some tv at one point and I said "that's great!"

😂😂😂😂😂😂

That would be quite rare I expect.

No, there were loads of kids in the catalogues.

Stroya · 26/04/2024 11:52

Are kids in catalogues really considered famous @HorsesDuvets?

No. But then I didn't say they were?

On the contrary; I was clearly laughing at the notion that they might be considered famous:

" Nearest thing we had at our school was 2 sisters who were frequently in the Grattan (?) catalogue modelling children's clothes. 😂 "

I think you may have missed my (intended to be comedic) deliberate misunderstanding of your "that would be quite rare I expect" being aimed at 'kids in catalogues'

Apologies if so.

One of my teachers had been in a 70s rock band, been on Top of the Pops and everything. He once went off on a revival tour of Germany during half term. Lovely man, and had a massive house on the Thames quite unfitting of a teacher's salary.

One of DC's classmates parents was a breakfast DJ. Insufferably happy chap.

Also went to school with an actress who is now younger than me and who has also changed nationality.

The daughter of a then very famous footballer (still well known in the media now). She could be a bit of a little madam, but I found out later that he’d been a bit of a shit to his family and it had screwed her up a bit.

Same school - the son of a top league football manager. He was a bit of an arse about how his dad’s team was the best in the league (they weren’t by some distance), but looking back it was sweet in a way. I remember a lot of gossip when his dad got sacked, which looking back now must have been hard on a school kid.

Secondary school - a child actor in a children’s TV series. He was absolutely in love with himself. He got quite a bit of attention from girls, but a lot of people hated him. I looked him up on IMDB and he works behind the scenes now.

Not famous at the time, but a girl several years above me was predicted to be a big West End star, and a boy the year below me had signed for the youth team at a big local football club. She went into a well-known, but ultimately B/C list pop group and got pigeonholed in the cheesy pop arena. (She’s also apparently only a year older than me, if you believe her Wikipedia page 😏)

He played for a few clubs at Championship level, and manages at a similar level now, so while not a household name, he’s done well.

What is the point of your post?
What a complete waste of time without names.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 26/04/2024 15:04

A relation of mine personally tutored the child of someone famous, I am not allowed say but this person is literally one of the most famous names and faces in the world. As a result they cannot live any sort of 'normal' life and are doing their best to protect the child from the crazy world they live in. My relative became part of the inner circle and spoke very highly of this family. She never said much though, in fairness that's probably why they hired her, I'm pretty sure she signed a NDA but she won't even tell me that much!

Tootytoot78 · 26/04/2024 15:07

Sean Bean was in the year above my neice at the local comp.

Paul Merson.
Footballer.

I'm not remotely interested in football and wasn't back then either 😅

Northolt High?

Northolt High?

Greenford High.

The borough of Northolt started a few meters up the road though, so close 🙂

ClareBlue · 26/04/2024 15:51

Won a swimming gold medal whilst at school with him. Most people would recognise his name 40 years later. He was a nice enough guy at school and met him years later and he hadn't a clue who I was but still friendly and pleasant.

Laiste · 26/04/2024 15:55

@Pinkandblueslushpuppy <waves>

The good ol' days eh? Smile

One of our teachers is/was infamous for dating one of the 6th formers and then getting her pregnant the year she left school 😮

And Patrick Veitch. In a small group with him for a couple of years. Always was a bit off kilter but a brilliant mathematician.

Aintgointogoa · 26/04/2024 16:19

Yes I did....a famous film director. He was in D stream, I was in B (grammar school !) But a group of us were good friends and we used to hang out at his place at weekends listening to Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa albums. He was brilliant in so many ways, very funny, and sadly missed.
Very outing, but don't really care....two of my bros were in a globally famous band. I very much enjoyed the limos to Wembley to see them, the triple A passes and the after parties - so did our mum 🤭

CoffeeChocolateWine · 26/04/2024 16:38

This was before I was born so not my own claim sadly, but in the early 70s my parents and my older brother and sister (who were toddlers) lived next door to another family - their little boy was the same age as my brother. The kids often played together when they were little but then my family moved abroad and they lost touch.

Anyway, the little boy went on to become a very, very famous heartthrob Hollywood actor! My sister (who doesn't really remember this) as an adult had a big crush on this actor so was very cross to discover that our parents jeopardised her chances with him by moving away 🤣

CoffeeChocolateWine · 26/04/2024 16:40

Just re-read your original question...obviously this little boy was not a famous actor at the time!

Elderflower14 · 26/04/2024 17:55

I was at school with Diana Ross's stepchildren. Her stepson Kristoffer was in my class, her stepdaughter Katinka was in my boarding house. I never met DR. Also same school Harvey Trump who played cricket for Somerset and Daniel Galvin Jnr who is a celeb hairdresser now.
