Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

Have to say, this is a great thread but pointless and boring when names aren't mentioned.

It's always the same I don't know why those posters bother .

The daughter of a then very famous footballer (still well known in the media now). She could be a bit of a little madam, but I found out later that he’d been a bit of a shit to his family and it had screwed her up a bit.

Same school - the son of a top league football manager. He was a bit of an arse about how his dad’s team was the best in the league (they weren’t by some distance), but looking back it was sweet in a way. I remember a lot of gossip when his dad got sacked, which looking back now must have been hard on a school kid.

Secondary school - a child actor in a children’s TV series. He was absolutely in love with himself. He got quite a bit of attention from girls, but a lot of people hated him. I looked him up on IMDB and he works behind the scenes now.

Not famous at the time, but a girl several years above me was predicted to be a big West End star, and a boy the year below me had signed for the youth team at a big local football club. She went into a well-known, but ultimately B/C list pop group and got pigeonholed in the cheesy pop arena. (She’s also apparently only a year older than me, if you believe her Wikipedia page 😏)

He played for a few clubs at Championship level, and manages at a similar level now, so while not a household name, he’s done well.

Name changed for this!

I went to school with Scarlett Johansson. She was in my little sister's year and used to come over, they were good friends. She was just becoming famous I suppose.

I went to high school with one of Steven Tyler's daughters (not Liv) and when he came to school we'd all act very unimpressed (ha!).

My friends big sister was the star of Sabrina the teenage witch (you may have never seen it!) and I used to go to their house and pretend not to be awe struck.

My friend went to school with the girl who did the 'my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard' song so I went to some parties with her.

Claire Danes hung out at the same park as me as a teenager.

Now guess where I grew up 🤣

Bridlington?

I went to boarding school and was in the same year as Sienna Guillory. She went from being kind to being an complete bitch and a bully who beat me up and sprayed hairspray in my eyes.
I still get angry when she pop up on my screen lol

My DH went to this school too and was in A Level geography with Olivia Coleman.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 25/04/2024 19:10

My sister was at school with a Miss Scotland (I think she became Miss GB or U.K. whatever).

I thought my sister was actually prettier (she really was - and I look nothing like her) but since she is only 5 foot nothing, I guess the world of glamour and prancing around in a bikini (for it was the 80s) wasn’t for her…

Never heard of Sienna - googled her and, nope, still no idea.

invent she’d be gutted!

Yes, a very famous pop singer known only by one name.

She was a total sweetie, and apparently still is.

Adele

Abbimae · 25/04/2024 20:24

Someone who was in the band who wrote ‘push the button’. She was a nasty bully.

At my school were: One of the Specials (older than me, I think he played with friends from another local school when still at school though), an under age Page 3 model (same age as me but in the year below due to failing her O levels), a novelist (I think in the year above - I don't really remember him - I have a friend who keeps telling me all about everyone in her and my year and what they are up to, it's a bit like when your mum tells you "remember X you were at primary school with" "no" "well she's head of the IMF/in prison/has 5 grandchildren in her early 40s").

I think I went to your school 🤣

@MsBinker indeed you did. I'm a bit younger than the Specials but about the same age as the page 3 girl. You?

A friend had the son of a well-known TV personality in his Primary class, he once said just before break 'Will the lads stay behind for a couple of minutes and we'll pick the team for Saturday's match'. Child of personality piped up 'Sir, my father says one picks one's nose, one selects a football team'. Father later jailed for child abuse.

I’m a bit younger - as I did GCSE’s in ‘early 90’s.
In my time some teachers & deputy head became more (in)famous for the wrong reasons!

Shazia Mirza was in my class at junior school. Its odd that she's now several years younger than me...

That's called a 'Dani Behr age' in our house because DBs age changes so much and not in the normal, yearly incremental way. When she was on The Word she was the same age as me. A few years ago she popped up and was magically 5 years younger than me 😂

I feel I need to get this info via DM.
I'm one of the last O level years.

My daughter was at school with a corrie actor.

Blighty001 · 25/04/2024 23:31

a family member was in the same class as David Bowie

It's a shame that nearly all the posts are about people who later became famous rather than were famous when at school, which is what the OP was asking about.

Nearest thing we had at our school was 2 sisters who were frequently in the Grattan (?) catalogue modelling children's clothes. 😂

That would be quite rare I expect.
