Did you go to school with someone famous?

I mean someone who was famous back then, not someone who became famous more recently. Child stars, athletes, children of celebrities...

How did they act? Do you think the fame affected them?

Not pupil . But a teacher made the national and was sent to prison for been a peadophile

Same here. I would say it may have been the same school but the cynic in me says it's probably not an uncommon story...

I went to the same school as Alexandra Burke. She was 2 years above me! Always got the main parts in the school plays/musicals.

also, went to drama school (same class) as Belinda Owusu (known for Eastenders & Holby City) Jessica Agomba, who is a professional song writer but was in a girl band (unsuccessfully) before this and Charlie Jones, who played Ben Mitchell at some point in Eastenders. Bet you can’t guess where I grew up. Hahah!

all very humble, except Charlie. He was young though and it got to his head a little.

Small world, I went to school with Jessica. Also an Olympian and a now very successful actress and show writer/creator.

I was at the same school, about 4 years behind, as a player in the '66 World Cup winning team, my friend and I interviewed him for our school magazine and we laughed all the way back on the bus when he predicted England would win the World Cup!

As a teacher I memorably had two boys in a class one of whom went on to play briefly for a top Premier League team and the other's serving life for murder!

What was she like at school? Was she academic?

Sorry for the delayed response, no I don’t think Holly was especially academic but it was a selective girl’s school.. her sister was head girl and they both oozed wealth and confidence. She had a close group of friends and they were very much the cool, pretty, rich girls. A shy, geeky little thing like me would never have shown up on their radar! I remember everyone being quite excited when we heard that Holly had been ‘spotted’ by a modelling agency.

Runnerinthenight · 21/03/2024 23:17

DH went to school with James Nesbitt, and my mum went to school with Martin Lewis, the broadcaster/news presenter. I went to school with Diana Henry, who has produced numerous cookbooks etc but isn't that well known!

Myotheripodisayoto · 21/03/2024 23:35

Dh went to school with a harry potter actor (big child role).

AngelQuartz · 21/03/2024 23:38

Obviously not at the same time, but I went to the same grammar school as poet laureate Ted Hughes.

JohnSt1 · 21/03/2024 23:44

I have a friend who went to school with Sharon Stone. She was very nice.

RoberttPostesChild · 22/03/2024 00:15

I went to school with a princess, not Brit, she was very famous from birth and she was wild!

Caswallonthefox · 22/03/2024 00:19

Yes, he was in swallows and amazon's in the early 80's.
He was the same age as my sister.
Unfortunately the fame fucked with his head and he was sectioned, he ended up trying to fly out of a window after taking LSD.
His brother was a year younger.

WorriedMumofTeen16 · 22/03/2024 00:22

Samantha Morton. And no she didn't leave school at 12 as she's claimed. Yes she had a shit life but there's a certain amount of history rewriting in a few things she's said.

Name changed for this!

I went to school with Scarlett Johansson. She was in my little sister's year and used to come over, they were good friends. She was just becoming famous I suppose.

I went to high school with one of Steven Tyler's daughters (not Liv) and when he came to school we'd all act very unimpressed (ha!).

My friends big sister was the star of Sabrina the teenage witch (you may have never seen it!) and I used to go to their house and pretend not to be awe struck.

My friend went to school with the girl who did the 'my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard' song so I went to some parties with her.

Claire Danes hung out at the same park as me as a teenager.

Now guess where I grew up 🤣

Scunthorpe?

LazJaz · 22/03/2024 20:45

@SisterMichael you may think that, I couldn’t possibly comment 😉

Totally outing but never mind! Not school though make of that what you will. DH and I used to frequent Michelle Fairley's (GOT currently in The Gone BBC1) dads pub! She's lovely! Also lovely is Jimmy Nesbit a local, Jamie Dornan a sort of local and Rory McIlroy. Darren Clarke is ok I guess lol. Maximum points for guessing where I live lol

I once saw Darren Clarke at the Jet Centre

Demerara1 · 22/03/2024 21:41

My younger cousin went to school with Paolo Nutini. They were best friends then and are best friends now.
I wouldn't say fame has changed him, as he's very down to earth.

Demerara1 · 22/03/2024 21:42

Have to say, this is a great thread but pointless and boring when names aren't mentioned.

Evilspiritgin · 22/03/2024 22:47

One of the teachers at my secondary school started the Vegan Society

Crazycatlady79 · 22/03/2024 23:11

Yeah, a fair few. All cool, bar one. 🤷🏼‍♀️

LyndaSnellsSniff · 22/03/2024 23:29

A couple of people I was at school with went on to become famous and successful in their fields (both TV industry). Sadly both took their own lives.

I was at uni with Grace Dent.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 22/03/2024 23:31

Also, at the school I work in we have a child that models frequently for Next and M&S and used to have the grandchild of a pretty famous 70s male singer.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 23/03/2024 09:11

Matt Hancock

He lived in my village - he is younger than me but my brother was in the same class. He went to a private senior school - my brother went to the local comp.

KimberleyClark · 23/03/2024 09:29

I was at school with someone who went on to play rugby for Wales a few times in the 80s/90s.
