What's worse than postbox toppers? Seasonal postbox toppers when it isn't that season

Round here we are surrounded by Christmas postbox toppers.

It's March FFS.

Wondering if the topper crafters have downed tools having realised they could do something better with their time.

I knit and crochet but I'd never make a postbox topper. The weather would soon ruin it. I prefer to make things (often commissioned) which I sell to raise money for a charity I support.

Someone does it where I live. It's a new one every so often. We currently have the Easter one, before that was a valentine one. I honestly love them. Whenever a new one goes up, it brings me so much joy to see it when everything else is so depressing. I hope whoever does them carries on.

PauliesWalnuts · 08/03/2024 21:46

I can’t stand them. Someone I know is involved with a yarn bombing group in a pretty town not far from me and I hate seeing their scraggy saggy multicoloured misshapen efforts every few months.

DillDanding · 08/03/2024 21:50

They are so wanky. They somehow scream sanctimony. I imagine groups that call themselves ‘knit and natter’ or some such horror congratulating themselves on their whimsy.

waterlellon · 08/03/2024 21:53

They keep the post boxes warm

PermanentTemporary · 08/03/2024 21:55

I love them ❤️

Depressedbarbie · 08/03/2024 21:55

I love them! Round here they do lovely ones. Very cheerful, and often fund raising for a good cause

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 08/03/2024 21:56

What on earth is a post box topper?????

HaPPy8 · 08/03/2024 21:57

I love them!

What on earth is a post box topper?????

I had the same thought and had a quick Google. Looks like a tea cosy for post boxes

PickAChew · 08/03/2024 22:00

I love a postbox topper. There's few groups around here do really nice ones.

Either knit or crochet hats for post boxes, sometimes quite elaborate. One of my friends makes them to put on the postbox opposite her house becauseshe knows her neighbours think they're tacky.

chipshopElvis · 08/03/2024 22:01

I love them! So cute and cheery!

Evenstar · 08/03/2024 22:01

This type of thing @SilverBranchGoldenPears

I think they are great. Nice bit of harmless fun. Can’t imagine how miserable you’d have to be to find them offensive 🤣🤣🤣

Letsgocamping67 · 08/03/2024 22:02

Bless them, it's not hurting anyone is it.

borntobequiet · 08/03/2024 22:04

So annoying, tacky and unnecessary. In my local town they have bollard toppers. Just why?

LaughterLentil · 08/03/2024 22:04

Postbox toppers I can deal with; it's the scarf's on tree trunks that irritate me

BreakingAndBroke · 08/03/2024 22:04

I love them.

They cheer the streets up.
They provide a good trail around the town for little kids to find them all.
They raise money for charity.
They bring people together in knit and natter groups to decide on themes and patterns.

What's not to love?

QueSyrahSyrah · 08/03/2024 22:06

Ooh there's been drama on Facebook round here as a Christmas one has been mysteriously removed (well it's March!) along with the base that the makers apparently re-use.

I can't say I mind them generally though. There was a beautiful one near us for Lunar New Year, incredibly detailed and beautifully made.

KindleAndCake · 08/03/2024 22:09

They're lovely. What's not to like?

Dullardmullard · 08/03/2024 22:09

I love em in my wee village and they get changed all the time nowt wanky about them.

Fannyfiggs · 08/03/2024 22:10

People make these for postboxes and bollards and knit scarves for trees???

I'm living in the wrong place, I would love seeing them every day.

How can anyone be annoyed or offended at them? They're absolutely delightful ❤️

I feel they should remove them after a month. What if they get all wet?
