What's worse than postbox toppers? Seasonal postbox toppers when it isn't that season

Round here we are surrounded by Christmas postbox toppers.

It's March FFS.

Wondering if the topper crafters have downed tools having realised they could do something better with their time.

LOL OP at you daring to have a go at postbox toppers. You'd be crucified if you put this on one of our local groups 😀I think they're quite sweet, but they do seem to get wrecked or stolen pretty quickly.

What on earth is a post box topper?????

One of these.

QEII Jubilee 😞
Random one with little octopus and sea creatures Smile

I love them, so cute sorry OP, I live in a village and the WI is big round here Grin

Our local bus stop.

Health warning OP you'll have to lie down to recover if you think postbox toppers are bad lol

Advent calendar
Easter with closeups, the detailed work is amazing. They don't get stolen or damaged which is nice.

The woman who does the ones in the next village is obviously far superior to some of yours - never any sag, they are rigid, rain does not affect them which is good as we get a lot in the Ribble Valley.. I thought I was a cold hearted misery guts but even I love them! Having said that, the ones she does are always season appropriate. There hasn't been one for a few weeks, am hoping she's gearing up for a fab Easter one.

BoobyDazzler · 09/03/2024 06:39

I think they’re marvellous, but you’re right - no one wants Christmas in march 🤣

BigPandaTinyDragon · 09/03/2024 07:12

I don’t understand - how do they make money for charity? If people are nicking them I’m guessing there’s not an honesty box that you put some money in after looking at them 🤔

BeLemonFish · 09/03/2024 07:15

They’ve got a gorgeous one outside our Tesco. I’d assumed it was Tesco doing it as it’s literally right next to the automatic doors but clearly not.

Jokingnotjoking · 09/03/2024 07:15

I get what people are saying here about whimsy and ‘knit and natter’ type groups, but I think postbox toppers are lovely. It just signifies that there are people out there willing to do a small thing for the community that’s, well, nice. Nothing more to it. Simple pleasures.

DillDanding · 08/03/2024 21:50

They are so wanky. They somehow scream sanctimony. I imagine groups that call themselves ‘knit and natter’ or some such horror congratulating themselves on their whimsy.

Sanctimony?! You’re projecting.

IFollowRivers · 09/03/2024 07:19

I desperately want to remove the bedraggled yet apparently amusing whale wearing a Santa hat at the top of my road but everyone has ring doorbells.

I fear the reprisals.

Go at 3am, wearing a hand knitted balaclava.

LoobyDop · 09/03/2024 07:24

The fact that some people are willing to put time and effort into making something to make others smile, and the fact that lots of other people then respect and appreciate that gesture enough not to nick or vandalise the things, is a little ray of sunshine in an increasingly grim world. And they look cute. I’m glad not everyone is trying so achingly hard to be cool that they sneer at such an innocuous thing.

Cakeandcookies · 09/03/2024 07:27

Really OP .. it is a bit of fun. Out of curiosity do you knit or crochet? As I don't think people realise the skills required and how much time and effort they take by talented people. Maybe the Easter ones are on their way?!

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 09/03/2024 07:33

I wish we had those where I live.
Im also jealous of South Yorkshire folk, who’s council has planted thousands of flower seeds along grass verges and on patches of grass alongside roads. Looks beautiful.

Londonrach1 · 09/03/2024 07:35

Love them! Keep going the clever people who make them

Justgivemesomepeace · 09/03/2024 07:38

Theres one near me that gets changed regularly. We currently have a hungry caterpillar for world book day. I look out for it on my way to work. They occasionally get nicked but she keeps on going! I love it and so do lots of other people judging by the comments on our local facebook page everytime a new one appears.

We have the toppers in the villages around me here on the NE coast of England. We've also had the council planting swathes of beautiful wild flowers on all the grass verges for the past few years now. It's truly beautiful to see. Yet still all you see on Social Media is folk whinging about how crap the council are for various spurious reasons. I'm always very grateful for the beautiful displays though. Where I used to live, the council planted up all the big tubs with herbs and cherry tomatoes which you could just help yourself to. I do think it's little things like that which make a difference.

I don't knit or crochet. I enjoy stuffing dead animals and posing them anthropomorphic scenes.

However I don't leave them sitting on top of postboxes. And, even if I did, I would make sure they weren't wearing a Christmas hat in March.

Tagyoureit · 09/03/2024 07:49

Take a picture of it and post it to your local Facebook group saying you're really looking forward to the Easter ones! That might get them updated! 😁

The ones round here are lovely and changed on a very regular basis, I'm in awe of the skill needed to make them! The children love the ones around the school.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/03/2024 07:50

I love them but I don’t think op is unreasonable to be annoyed with the Christmas ones still being there. In the same way as appropriate ones are cheering, bedraggled no longer appropriate ones are depressing.

Moreindecision · 09/03/2024 07:53

@DillDillDanding you sound so delightful. What an unnecessary level of hostility to have and a lot of assumptions to make.

coodawoodashooda · 09/03/2024 07:54

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 08/03/2024 21:41

Someone does it where I live. It's a new one every so often. We currently have the Easter one, before that was a valentine one. I honestly love them. Whenever a new one goes up, it brings me so much joy to see it when everything else is so depressing. I hope whoever does them carries on.

Me too!

RichardsGear · 09/03/2024 07:54

I'm also, like a PP, wondering how they raise money for charity?

Isthisreasonable · 09/03/2024 07:58

You live somewhere where people care about their community? How awful for you, perhaps you need a change of location?
