What's worse than postbox toppers? Seasonal postbox toppers when it isn't that season

Round here we are surrounded by Christmas postbox toppers.

It's March FFS.

Wondering if the topper crafters have downed tools having realised they could do something better with their time.

The one near us had chocolates in each Christmas stocking for people to help themselves to. Sweet!

Ohpleeeease · 09/03/2024 08:00

I wonder if posters who love them feel same about graffiti, which is essentially the same thing.

BreakfastAtMimis · 09/03/2024 08:02

You could remove the out of season toppers and stuff them in the postbox. Then it's Royal Mail's problem!

EmilyGilmoreenergy · 09/03/2024 08:02

I have seen a lest we forget one complete with full size knitted tin hat and boots.
It was in January, what a commemoration 🥴.

They keep the post boxes warm

😂

@DillDanding

Nothing wrong with knit and natter groups, gives something to do for many lonely older people (yes we have a man at the one we host) and far more wholesome than propping up the bar in Wetherspoons which is one of the only other places people go around here

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/03/2024 08:12

What sort of misery-guts can actually hate them?
If I could have found a knitting pattern (can’t crochet) for a Christmas version, I’d have made one for the post box in Gdcs’ road.

Herdinggoats · 08/03/2024 22:02

I think they are great. Nice bit of harmless fun. Can’t imagine how miserable you’d have to be to find them offensive 🤣🤣🤣

This.

The ones by us are amazing.

Not entirely the same. Graffiti is designed to be hard to remove rather than completely removable and often it’s either offensive (eg racist) slogans or repetitive tagging.
Some graffiti is amazing and done by talented people and also sometimes has a positive political purpose too. It’s probably more varied in what it’s trying to express than yarn bombing which is generally quite conventional, so hard to have a single attitude to it all.

IFollowRivers · 09/03/2024 08:18

The problem with these monstrosities is that although in theory they are easy to remove in practice you'd get lynched for doing so.

They are lovely & I truly feel for anyone who can feel miserable about them! Ours is covered (it's outside a busy shop) & is regularly changed.

i think they are lovely and applaud the people who do them

acatcalledjohn · 09/03/2024 08:19

Go at 3am, wearing a hand knitted balaclava.

I don’t believe for a moment you would get lynched for removing a Christmas one in March. I think there would be lots of posts in your local Facebook group saying thank goodness someone finally did.
Yabu to complain about it on Mumsnet and not be brave enough to do it! Go on! If you end up pursued by a mob with flaming torches I’ll eat my words.

OutOfTheHouse · 09/03/2024 08:24

I love them. No one near us does them though.

Like a hat

Made me really laugh 😂

Els1e · 09/03/2024 08:29

I like them. The one near me will change with whatever is going on, seasons, coronation, royal weddings, sport. Whoever does is very talented. Surpassed themselves this Christmas with one that lit up at night.

sawnotseen · 09/03/2024 08:30

I love them and admire the work that has gone into making them.

GreenRaven · 09/03/2024 08:30

I love them, they make my day

Cockapoopoopoo · 09/03/2024 08:31

DillDanding · 08/03/2024 21:50

They are so wanky. They somehow scream sanctimony. I imagine groups that call themselves ‘knit and natter’ or some such horror congratulating themselves on their whimsy.

Wow, how fucking miserable. How can you harbour so much hate for people doing something so harmless that brings them joy, have a look at yourself.

Graffiti is notcat all the same thing as an entirely removable hat! But I actually do like lots of graffiti, as long as it is artistic and not just a stupid squiggle, poorly scrawled name etc.

Vitriolinsanity · 09/03/2024 08:32

I love them.

Thestruggler · 09/03/2024 08:33

I love these, I envy the skills involved and could never do it myself. 5 year old DD loves having her picture taken next to these when we see them. She was particularly excited when someone knitted a Platinum Jubilee one as she was obsessed with the queen.

Lynched by who?

Perhaps there does need to be some sort of royal mail schedule. Eg. A date every 6 months where the postboxes have their hats removed and a good maintenance check. I doubt they will make that a thing though as it costs money
