AIBU to be really wound up at women putting their handbags on tables in the restaurant?

it’s a real bug bear of mine. I find It extremely rude

I wouldn't do this with a huge bag, but with a small clutch or top handle bag then i would sit it on the table if there was room - handbags can be very expensive and i dont want them dirty, stood on, stolen etc

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/03/2024 20:27

Why is it rude?

SilentlyCorrectingYourSpelling · 01/03/2024 20:28

What an odd thing to get offended by. Would never occur to me that it would be considered rude.

Anewuser · 01/03/2024 20:32

Don’t see it as rude. Would you not put your purse/glasses case/ phone on the table? How is it different?

They're so useful, but I kept losing mine... So I got alone they I have been told is the 'Mans' version.. 😂

It's called a Hero Clip and is a carabiner and hanger in two. The carabiner is useful though as you can clip it on your bag and it doesn't get lost... 😂

Nope. Your thread, your issue, you explain 😂

Brefugee · 01/03/2024 20:37

no, you tell us. "google it" as an answer is way ruder than someone putting their handbag on a table

(or are they at the table next to you and dumping their Kelly Bag near your soup plate?)

The onus is on you to explain. You started the thread so explain your gripe.

Google won't tell us why you think it's rude though will it?

It's your opinion you're expressing amd someone has asked why.

IcelandicBerry · 01/03/2024 20:42

My brother is a chef and he goes bonkers of anyone puts a bag on the kitchen surface for hygiene reasons.

Davros · 01/03/2024 20:42

That was the whole point of a Kelly bag. So Grace Kelly could put it on the table to stop paps taking photos of her

Londonrach1 · 01/03/2024 20:42

Yabu and Abit strange.

Petrarkanian · 01/03/2024 20:43

I'm not putting my 90's Jane Shilton rucksack on the floor. It needs to last me another 30 years.

bornak · 01/03/2024 20:44

Unless they are putting their bags on your table I don't see the issue.

Cantara · 01/03/2024 20:47

I wouldn't like anyone dumping any bag on the table, it's for eating, not putting your bag on. I don't like handbags though, always thought they looked ridiculous, but still wouldn't like any bag sitting on the dinner table.

hottchocolate · 01/03/2024 20:49

a clutch bag or tiny bag okay but I agree with you otherwise

i don't like bags on the table, on desks or on the kitchen worktop mainly due to hygiene

I think YABU to tell people to "google"
why you think it's rude
