Google says it is extremely bad manners to put your handbag on the table in a restaurant. Just something I thought most people would know. Basic etiquette

Don't be so rude OP. You start a thread, you explain your thought process on the matter. Weird!!

JellyIegs · 01/03/2024 20:51

I think it’s a bit grubby because bags go on floors or other surfaces that might not be super clean, then on to a food prep/eating surface. I suppose though some expensive handbags may never have touched the floor!

Do you do everything Google tells you to do?

But why? Don't just say because Google says it's bad manners and that it's poor etiquette.

Explain why you think so.

Andthereyougo · 01/03/2024 20:53

Shoes, feet, dog on table I could get offended about.
A handbag ? Nah.
Life is too short ( and too bloody difficult) to get offended by everything.

Gullible by Google

IcelandicBerry · 01/03/2024 20:55

It's Debretts for etiquette, not Google.

Ooohhhh Google says

What a load a bullshit!! 🙄🙄

BeretRaspberry · 01/03/2024 21:00

Etiquette also says you’re supposed to eat with your knife in your right hand and fork in your left but if I did that I’d cause much more embarrassment with the mess I’d cause!

Not at all. People put their handbags on the floor in toilets then put them on the dining table. Eew

I don't care what Google says. I will put my bag on a table in preference to the floor, i may hang it on the back of my chair if it's not going to be knocked off or in the way.

And if it upsets you? #SorryNotSorry

LalaPaloosa · 01/03/2024 21:04

Nope. Your thread, your issue, you explain 😂

Exactly! 👏👏 posts about finding handbags on tables rude, then rudely tells people to Google it when they ask why 🤪

I paid over €1k for my handbag, I don't put it in bathroom floors!

you're seriously thinking that the people who told you they put their handbag on a table in preference to a grubby restaurant floor would seriously put their handbag on the floor in the toilet?

Are your synapses working properly?

NaomhPadraigin · 01/03/2024 21:05

And as PP has suggested Google is not the source of all information!

Deafening · 01/03/2024 21:06

My handbag has never been on a bathroom floor!

Cheeesus · 01/03/2024 21:06

I have bags that are not floor bags. They go on a hook in the toilets.

Parkerpenny · 01/03/2024 21:07

Bags have been everywhere. Toilet floors, outside, in shopping trolleys. They find brlong on dinner tables.

Parkerpenny · 01/03/2024 21:07

Should have said don't belong!

I don't ever put any bag on the toilet floor when out in public. If a cubicle doesn't have a peg, then I make do with the hinge or the top corner of the door.

milesmachine · 01/03/2024 21:08

How do you get a handbag IN a table?

🤷🏻‍♀️ (ignoring OPs own rude manners on the thread)

SOxon · 01/03/2024 21:08

or guests who travel overnight by truck, car, train, two planes, fishing vessel,
three helicopters 2 buses and an uber, to dump their case/luggage onto a snowy white heavy cotton bedspread, then lie back on the bed with their fit only for the bin boots on.

Surely there are more important things to care about?!

TinyGingerCat · 01/03/2024 21:10

OP who is putting a bag on your table when you are in a restaurant? I really don't understand. If it is a dinner companion, surely you can say please hang your bag on your chair.I put my bag over the back of my chair or better still I l love those restaurants where the table has a shelf underneath for your bag or has a built in hook. I don't want my bag on the floor in case it gets nicked or scuffed.
