AIBU to be really wound up at women putting their handbags on tables in the restaurant?

it’s a real bug bear of mine. I find It extremely rude

Obviously a mis type. I take it you put your handbag on the table

Maybe she goes nice places where they provide a little stool for the bag.

I obviously have far better manners than you and I am intelligent enough to know what basic manners are and I don’t need to swear

I'm going to disagree with you, both on your manners and grammar

Where are all these places where there's always a hook on the back of the door? I more often find there never was a hook, or it's broken or fallen off.

I Had Words about the lack of hooks once with two blokes with clipboards who were doing some kind of survey of the ladies' loos at my local station.

(But I suppose the sort of people who have bags that cost a month's salary aren't the sort that mingle with us plebs on the trains.)

ThinWomansBrain · 03/03/2024 00:22

if its someone you're dining with, just order pasta and spray the bag liberally with sauce.
they'll either avoid putting the bag on the table, or not dine out with you again.

I dislike it too, OP. But unless you're inside a 'good' restaurant, bags on the floor or hung over chair backs get stolen. You can keep your bag on your lap, but that's uncomfortable and slightly gross if eating. You can pop it behind your bum, but it could still be stolen unless you keep it squashed behind your back.

Bags on tables it is.

I must remember that inside a good restaurant my bag won't get stolen!

Does Nando's qualify as good?

What a load of snobby rubbish! Please do show me the statistics for more bags getting stolen in low class restaurants.

When I’ve spent £500 on a bag I’m not putting it on the dirty floor. It’s a bag on a table chill out. You’re not dining with the queen you’re meant to be with friends and family that you’re relaxed and comfortable with why is it so triggering for you?

I was thinking more of places like McDonald's, where customers are constantly coming & going and there are few or no floor staff. It's about opportunity - your bag's also at risk under a pavement table, whatever the establishment's price or 'class'. But you go ahead and be outraged if you like!

ancienticecream · 03/03/2024 14:55

If you don't want to put it on the floor, then I don't understand why you wouldn't just put it on your lap.

puzzledout · 03/03/2024 15:53

@Garlicking I'm not outraged, I'm just full on laughing at you GrinGrinGrinGrin

Such a ridiculous comment!
