Please can someone say what labours manifesto is?

Hi,

Looks like no choice but to vote labour this time. No idea what they actually stand for. I have listened to Kier and various things still none the wiser. I don’t know whether this is because they have less air time as the opposition or something else.

If anyone can sum up very briefly the 3 main policies or changes they will make.

To do the conservative comparison I would have said they wanted to;
Lower taxes (and plunge the £ into panic)
‘Fix’ the nhs
Have an odd obsession with sending everyone to Rwanda

But I can’t make a comparison for labour because no idea!

Thank you

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/02/2024 11:23

No doubt it will publish its manifesto.

Like Liz Truss?

Crikeyalmighty · 20/02/2024 11:27

@rosesareorange that's incredibly simplistic- I'm centre left - def not far left and I'm not that interested in gender politics and fiscally I would be relatively 'tight' when it's called for

I could easily say the Tory's stand for 'let public services drop to bits and fleece the public purse to give contracts to mates and donors and oh don't worry about taking cash and directorships for lobbying purposes - we all do it

rosesareorange · 20/02/2024 11:30

I'm politically homeless and have voted Labour in the past, but am very cynical about all the major parties. I think we do need another Labour government to remind the people how incompetent they are too.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/02/2024 11:34

The Tory one…

Ohnoohohhoohh · 20/02/2024 11:36

Tory lite with added gender politics for some spice

Jovacknockowitch · 20/02/2024 11:36

This is a ridiculous and pointless request until the election is called.

ilovesooty · 20/02/2024 11:37

It hasn't been published yet and there's no point in saying any more than necessary because the other parties haven't published theirs either.

This perpetual "I don't know what they stand for" is getting a bit tiresome.

Jovacknockowitch · 20/02/2024 11:38

This perpetual "I don't know what they stand for" is getting a bit tiresome.

I agree it is utterly pathetic and I always suspect it's only said by people who would never vote Labour anyway.

howshouldibehave · 20/02/2024 11:38

The party manifestos will be published when the Tories finally call an election, as most people are fully aware.

randomchap · 20/02/2024 11:39

Another sock puppet attacking Labour, how very tiresome.

When the tories call the election, then the parties will release their manifesto.

Our country runs along the centre with very little deviation between our main 2 parties. It's safe to make general assumptions about what they stand for based on this.

Until we get to a GE and publication of manifestos, here is some reading for you OP. 🙄

On the nhs there is a significant difference between the parties. The ft graphic below shows the waiting list under different parties. Anyone saying that all parties are the same are just lying to themselves and others

Something about keeping the triple lock pension was in one of the newspapers

Jasmin1971 · 20/02/2024 11:47

It will be released when an election is called.

Things we can say;

It will be FULLY COSTED and focused on;
Rebuilding the NHS
Rebuilding public services
Investing in future infrastructure to meet a carbon neutral future not reliant on oil and gas.
Improving international relations after the disaster that was Brexit.

In short we will be chasing fires desperately trying to alleviate the damage caused by 14 years of the worst government we have ever had.

They basically stand for any minority group or identity regardless of the detriment to others.

So basically the same as the Tories except the Tories' minority groups are millionaires and fraudsters.

My take on Labour's main policies for the ones that affect me

  1. Steady the economy. Make it better for the less well off.
  2. Improve public services (start reinvesting in NHS/education/police/nationalise the railways/water)
  3. Start building council houses again and more house building in general.
  4. Invest in green energy (though not enough)
  5. Improve childcare and apprenticeships
CantDealwithChristmas · 20/02/2024 12:44

I think it's just Tory Lite / New Labour. They've said they'll be very tight on spending. Rachel Reeve seems switched on, she's been wooing the City and big business recently and there's tons of big business donors now. Wes Streeting has said the NHS needs reform and the manifesto will lay out some plans.

They're properly centrist again, so I think they'll walk it - but only if SNP votes collapse in Scotland.

Agreed and is getting tiresome as someone upthread said.
