Please can someone say what labours manifesto is?

Hi,

Looks like no choice but to vote labour this time. No idea what they actually stand for. I have listened to Kier and various things still none the wiser. I don’t know whether this is because they have less air time as the opposition or something else.

If anyone can sum up very briefly the 3 main policies or changes they will make.

To do the conservative comparison I would have said they wanted to;
Lower taxes (and plunge the £ into panic)
‘Fix’ the nhs
Have an odd obsession with sending everyone to Rwanda

But I can’t make a comparison for labour because no idea!

Thank you

Agreed and is getting tiresome as someone upthread said.

The problem is the Tories - with as much incompetence for running the party as they have shown in running the country - have managed to lock themselves into a death spiral. An engineer would call it extreme hysteresis.

Now every attempt to salt the interwebs is simply going to attract more negative than positive attention.

However as it's all they have (I mean running the country in a decent way clearly never occurred to the past 4 Tory Prime Ministers) then it's all they'll do.

The sight of some more desperate Tories pinning their hopes on Donald Trump is worthy of a Wildean quote about the about to be unelected voting for the unspeakable.

SpinyNorma · 20/02/2024 12:53

A manifesto is a very particular thing which will only be published once an election is announced.

BUT - it is true that we had a very clear vision of what the Conservatives at least claimed they would seek to achieve in government long before this point in the 2005-10 election cycle with specific policies announced. Same for Labour 1992-1997. The vagueness of Labour's offer this time, barring some minor tax announcements (e.g. non-doms), is a bit worrying.

Frosty1000 · 20/02/2024 12:55

If I were any party I wouldn't publish until the GE is called as there's a danger and a possibility that others may nick some ideas.

pointythings · 20/02/2024 12:57

Oh, another one of those. Yawn. There's this amazing thing called 'Google'. Use it.

More fun would be to have a "public" manifesto with loads of plausible but batshit in it for the Tories to nick (especially if it feeds into the CCHQ delusions about with the people want) whilst surreptitiously working on a secret manifesto that can be released when it's too late to copy.

Mind you the best way to keep anything secret is to discuss it on GB News.

This perpetual "I don't know what they stand for" is getting a bit tiresome.

I agree it is utterly pathetic and I always suspect it's only said by people who would never vote Labour anyway.

Yes.

OP, they won’t have published their manifesto yet - it’s not time for manifestos, that happens when an election is announced. Which I wish the govt would do!

It’s always easier to say “oh what are their policies” about the party not in power as they aren’t the ones physically running the country right now. But it’s also very easy to find their standpoints on various things if you actually want to.

Much more fun to push this into "trending" or "active" to remind everyone how shit the Tories are.

they stand for identity politics and spend spend spend....

Tories love a culture war and they have increased taxes to the highest level for 70 years

tennesseewhiskey1 · 20/02/2024 13:14

I think something like tax private schools, don’t send people to Rwanda and maybe help the NHS but not sure. I do know they don’t know what a woman is tho - and that some of them are anti-Semites.

GasPanic · 20/02/2024 13:17

They will not publish it before the election because the Tories would steal all the ideas in it.

And vice versa.

So you will have to wait.

SpilltheTea · 20/02/2024 13:17

Every party makes their bullshit promises and then does a 180, so they never stand for anything other than self preservation. Labour can't be worse than the Tories though, that would be quite an achievement.

SerendipityJane · 20/02/2024 13:29

"… You choose your leaders and place your trust
As their lies wash you down and their promises rust"

HRTQueen · 20/02/2024 13:31

We shall see but they have told us the increase in spending won’t be huge as money isn’t there but investment shall be made in public services, professional training and Green energy incentives to name a few

Hopefully an election shall be called soon so you can then read Labour’s manifesto

Indeed it would.
I'm hoping for some honesty and integrity from Labour, like Sunak promised when he became PM but has completely failed to do.
I'm not expecting miracles from Labour. If they get elected they will have a mountain of 14 years of Tory mess to clean up.

On the off chance that you do want genuine information, you need to look at their website and not ask AIBU. I don't know why you chose AIBU in the first place, but anyway:

https://labour.org.uk/missions/

I suspect however this was to generate a bit of froth.

Missions – The Labour Party

Labour's five missions to get Britain's future back.

Until we get to a GE and publication of manifestos, here is some reading for you OP. 🙄

This! Is google not working where you are OP?

Thanks for the sensible replies. Interesting chart about the waiting times. That would be sooo good if they can sort that out.

I don’t know why everyone is saying I’m a sock puppet. Ridiculous. Have been on here for 10 years and think it’s a legitimate question considering a GE is looming.

In previous GEs it’s been very unclear what Labour are standing for. So part of this thread is yes to put this into the ether so hopefully someone from labour sees this and we can get a clear answer. Wishful thinking but you never know!

We need I a change and it needs to be clear and simple imo.

Wanted to check I hadn’t missed something that was clear and simple.

The graph on NHS waiting times being better under Labour is a total red herring....the COVID pandemic, the junior doctors strikes, the lack of any plan for social care, (under any of the parties) and the appalling wastage are some of the reasons why waiting times are so out of control.

No political party will solve the NHS without radical root and branch reform, but it's become such a sacred cow, not one party will do anything other than tinker round the edges and plough yet more pointless billions into it....

Another sock puppet attacking Labour, how very tiresome.

When the tories call the election, then the parties will release their manifesto.

Are Mumsnet deliberately allowing these Tory plants to post?

All a bit sad if they are.

Waiting times were going up long before the pandemic.

BigFluffyHoodie · 20/02/2024 19:13

Well now. I was not expecting that.

*Strong national defence

  • Maintain an unshakeable commitment to NATO and our nuclear deterrent.
  • Conduct a Strategic Defence and Security Review in our first year in government to fully understand the state of our Armed Forces, the nature of threats we face and the capabilities needed.
  • Labour will tackle the poor state of service accommodation to ensure homes are fit for heroes, having commissioned the independent Kerslake review of military housing to help draw up plans in Government.
  • Legislate to establish an Armed Forces Commissioner as a strong independent voice to improve service life.*
Datgal · 20/02/2024 19:14

IClaudine · 20/02/2024 19:07

Waiting times were going up long before the pandemic.

Indeed. Haven't they been in power for the last 13 years? Enough time to sort out everything they slag off labour for. Shambles

BigFluffyHoodie · 20/02/2024 19:14

Also a bit of a surprise from Labour?

Secure borders

  • Smash the criminal gangs by using counter-terror style tactics – strengthening powers and using the full force of Britain’s intelligence and policing to destroy the evil business model of human trafficking.
  • Deploy more police and investigators in
  • Set up a 1,000 strong Returns Unit to ensure failed asylum seekers and others with no right to be here are removed.
  • End hotel use for asylum seekers by clearing the asylum backlog with more staff to process claims and return people to safe countries.
BigFluffyHoodie · 20/02/2024 19:15

So Labour seem to be not "Tory lite" , but "Tory more efficient"?
