Lighthearted obviously but I may well divorce my partner over this before we are even married 😂

My partner and I disagree on how to 'correctly' put the food shopping away. I won't say who is who yet so as not to bias opinions.

Person A empties the contents of every bag onto the kitchen worktops first - we're talking about 5-6 bags - and only when every single item is on the kitchen worktops do they then begin the process of putting it all away into the fridge, freezer and cupboards.

Person B empties the contents of all bags one by one straight from the bag into the fridge, freezer or cupboard (thus missing out the step of emptying onto the worktop first).

Person A thinks their way is correct because you can see all your shopping first before you put it away. Person B thinks Person A is adding in an unnecessary extra step and taking longer where there is no need.

Who is correct?

I’m with person B. I empty one bag at a time.

Violettaa · 17/02/2024 18:54

Person A is nuts.

TheNuttyNatterer · 17/02/2024 18:54

Person B, it’s the quickest way to do it.

CaineRaine · 17/02/2024 18:55

I do A so I can be more efficient putting it away - fridge stuff first, then freezer then food cupboards. Otherwise I am back and forth between fridge, freezer, cupboards etc depending on how the bags have been packed which takes longer.

Regretsandregrets · 17/02/2024 18:55

One bag at a time, person B

SecondHandFurniture · 17/02/2024 18:55

1 bag at a time!

midgetastic · 17/02/2024 18:55

Whoever puts it away gets to chose ?

diggermama · 17/02/2024 18:55

I am person B!

Sophist · 17/02/2024 18:55

My husband is person A. It annoys me so much I have to unpack everything or let him do it- we can’t do it together.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 17/02/2024 18:56

1 bag at a time, but if you pack your shopping effectively in the supermarket you don’t need to run round the kitchen because similar things go in a bag together.

my mum unpacks everything onto the side 🤣 or she did when I was a kid.

YeahIsaidit · 17/02/2024 18:56

Person B has it right. Honestly I put all the fridge/freezer stuff into one big IKEA bag and empty it away first and then the others are just done "whenever"

Why do you need to be able to see the shopping before you put it away, you picked it presumably minutes beforehand?!

Willmafrockfit · 17/02/2024 18:56

i have a stack of shopping on the counter
i am part way through emptying
i have no idea what i am doing, except i am cleaning the fridge before putting the shopping away.
and now here! so doing nothing.

BibbleandSqwauk · 17/02/2024 18:56

I do a bit of a mixture of the two but A is probably more efficient as you'll only be opening the freezer or fridge once. It also depends on how you packed the shopping though. If all the freezer stuff is in one bag it's easier.

Chickenkeev · 17/02/2024 18:56

Person B!

Mazuslongtoenail · 17/02/2024 18:56

Person A. Otherwise you’d be arsing about going into each cupboard a load of times and opening your fridge again and again which then makes it work harder to get up to temperature.

I put things on the worktops in rough zones so then putting it in each cupboard / fridge is really quick.

mynameiscalypso · 17/02/2024 18:57

I end up being person A because DS likes to unload and organise all the food when it's delivered. I don't actually have strong feelings either way though

Riverlee · 17/02/2024 18:57

I’m person B also.

Mazuslongtoenail · 17/02/2024 18:57

Maybe you could have a race on different weeks. If course you’d have to make the meals exactly the same to make it fair.

Yep this is how I do it. I know what shopping I've got because I've compiled the shopping list and/or if I've had it delivered I've received the confirmation in the very early hours of delivery date, which acts as a reminder and I'm also the one who packs the shopping from the supermarket's crate to my shopping bags. 🌹

Witchdr92456 · 17/02/2024 18:57

Im person A

FairyBatman · 17/02/2024 18:58

B is obviously correct, especially when you pack the shopping logically so that all frozen is in one bag,all fridge in another etc.

I am person A. Everything onto counter too and categorise then put away section by section

Pipersouth · 17/02/2024 18:58

Scanning in Tesco and putting all frozen into special bag and all fridge together - 2 people putting away at home with one doing the cold stuff first

WholeMe · 17/02/2024 18:58

I unpack it all first, but put in different places. Fridge and freezer stuff on table near the fridge, cupboard stuff on the worktop near the cupboards, bathroom stuff on other side of table near the door, and cleaning products at end of table opposite the under sink cupboard where they live. Then I will do each section one at a time.

CheshireCat1 · 17/02/2024 18:58

I’m person A, I like to check the dates so I can put them in date order in the fridge.
