Lighthearted obviously but I may well divorce my partner over this before we are even married 😂

My partner and I disagree on how to 'correctly' put the food shopping away. I won't say who is who yet so as not to bias opinions.

Person A empties the contents of every bag onto the kitchen worktops first - we're talking about 5-6 bags - and only when every single item is on the kitchen worktops do they then begin the process of putting it all away into the fridge, freezer and cupboards.

Person B empties the contents of all bags one by one straight from the bag into the fridge, freezer or cupboard (thus missing out the step of emptying onto the worktop first).

Person A thinks their way is correct because you can see all your shopping first before you put it away. Person B thinks Person A is adding in an unnecessary extra step and taking longer where there is no need.

Who is correct?

Neither. Should be going through the bags and finding all cold items and putting those away first. Some items may be placed on counter as sort through bags to find the cold items.

irishapple · 17/02/2024 19:31

Person A otherwise I'm all over the show when putting stuff away... one journey to the fridge, to the cupboard, back to the freezer, maybe another trip to under the sink. So annoying.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 17/02/2024 19:32

I'm a B. But then I'll have packed the bags at the shop, so I know that similar things are already in the same bag, and how many things are due to go in each cupboard.

I do A so I can be more efficient putting it away - fridge stuff first, then freezer then food cupboards. Otherwise I am back and forth between fridge, freezer, cupboards etc depending on how the bags have been packed which takes longer.

We do this. Ours is delivered to us, whoever answers the door brings the bags through, then usually he unpacks onto the worktop and I put away a location at a time, because I am queen of fridge and cupboard Tetris. Much more efficient than hopping back and forth between fridge, freezer, cupboards and pantry.

TeabySea · 17/02/2024 19:33

I'm more person B, but if person A just cracks on with it and I don't need to get involved then that's fine.

puzzledout · 17/02/2024 19:33

B!

A is my DH.

irishapple · 17/02/2024 19:34

Also. Is it not quite annoying carrying the bag around and emptying with one hand? Whilst trying to open or close the fridge etc

Londonrach1 · 17/02/2024 19:34

Personal b...just put it away bag by bag....ott anything else

Think this must make a big difference- I get my shopping delivered and it comes in different bags for fridge, cupboard etc. Maybe my husband hasn’t noticed this 🤨

Yes the problem emerges when we do it together, like today. I'm happy for him to faff about emptying bags all over the worktops so long as I don't have to get involved 😂

I'm A. Sort into fridge/freezer/cupbaord/toiletries piles. Put 1 and 2 away then put the kettle on and sort the rest afterwards.

Februaryfeels · 17/02/2024 19:36

I'm person A and have zones in the kitchen for cupboard/ fridge/fridge feeezer/sweet drawer/drinks fridge

I empty it all then put away in groups

No I carry it to the fridge, it stays on the floor, I empty it, then move onto the next bag, and repeat. They are those large bags for life (?), so usually to heavy to just hold in one hand and empty. So I take it to the fridge and stand there and empty it, repeat for freezer, cupboards and so on.

If you pack rightly in the first place in the supermarket then it would negate the need to empty all out on the worksurface (which is madness anyway so option b)

Our freezer and drink storage is the garage anyway so that gets put seperately in the car

SgtJuneAckland · 17/02/2024 19:38

I'm a B but when I do the shopping I scan and shop so have one freezer bag, one fridge, one fruit and veg, one store cupboard, one toiletries and cleaning supplies etc, so it's easy.
DH is an A it takes ages and stuff starts defrosting.

We were in Tesco a while ago and I'd done the list, as we got to about halfway round he stopped and said do you have a map of Tesco in your brain? This was because we were getting through the list in order. I said yes I know which way I go round the shop and what comes next so I write my list in sections fruit and veg, medicines and toiletries, dairy etc etc .
He thought it was witchcraft.

FawnFrenchieMum · 17/02/2024 19:38

I’m person B, DH is person A! Drives me mad!

tiredmama23 · 17/02/2024 19:41

@SgtJuneAckland

😂

This has just reminded me of what my Dad used to do when we were kids. He took the mental map of Tesco one step further and had a physical map of Kwik Save (as it was at the time), which he had printed from his computer. He'd marked the products on there in the order they were in the shop, and printed a new one each time we went shopping. I still to this day don't really know why he did this 😂

OP posts:
WhamBamThankU · 17/02/2024 19:41

I do both 😂 see how the mood takes me

SgtJuneAckland · 17/02/2024 19:43

What is this madness with people throwing bananas tins and tampons in the same bag?! Organise as you shop then there's no need to take out all out and sort it!

brokenbitbybit · 17/02/2024 19:44

I'm person A. If I did one bag at a time I'd spend more time rearranging

Maray1967 · 17/02/2024 19:47

Person B is correct.

I am person B - but I pack in a organised fashion at the checkout so it makes sense.

HeyBamboOllyOllyOllyHayMambo · 17/02/2024 19:47

I'm the same as person A. Everything on the sides/table then group it all together to go into their homes

I’m a bit of both. I put all fridge items on the worktop first so when I put them in the fridge I can put them how I want them and according to dates etc.

the other bags I put away as I empty
