Lighthearted obviously but I may well divorce my partner over this before we are even married 😂

My partner and I disagree on how to 'correctly' put the food shopping away. I won't say who is who yet so as not to bias opinions.

Person A empties the contents of every bag onto the kitchen worktops first - we're talking about 5-6 bags - and only when every single item is on the kitchen worktops do they then begin the process of putting it all away into the fridge, freezer and cupboards.

Person B empties the contents of all bags one by one straight from the bag into the fridge, freezer or cupboard (thus missing out the step of emptying onto the worktop first).

Person A thinks their way is correct because you can see all your shopping first before you put it away. Person B thinks Person A is adding in an unnecessary extra step and taking longer where there is no need.

Who is correct?

Put all your fridge stuff in one carrier bag at the shop, put all your freezer stuff in another and so on. Then you take each bag to the right bit of the kitchen and put that away.

I think you'll find that's the correct way.

Santaclausthemovi · 17/02/2024 19:50

I am person A, but think option B is probably more efficient. I just can't do it like though. I like to see everything I have first

MuggleMe · 17/02/2024 19:51

I'm person B, but I'm anal when it comes to putting everything into bags.

Littlefish · 17/02/2024 19:52

In our house...

Person A is correct when we have an online delivery, without bags, as we unload everything out of the supermarket crates and on to the kitchen table.

Person B is correct if I've been to the supermarket as I bag everything up by type (fridge bag, store cupboard bag etc).

Happyher · 17/02/2024 19:53

Person B if you’ve packed your bags in an organised way. Person A if you’ve just piled anything into any bag

Pineapplewaves · 17/02/2024 19:55

DP is person A and I am B - nobody is right or wrong, everyone has their own way of doing things.

Mementomorissons · 17/02/2024 19:58

Person A

Then you get the warm satisfaction of seeing all the things you bought and how stocked up you now are

Crunchymum · 17/02/2024 19:58

Always A.

Gives me a chance to reorganise cupboards / the fridge / freezer / check dates and stock levels etc. I often end up talking stuff out of cupboards to put larger items away at the back?

I can't work out how method B deals with putting away large things? As you have to move the smaller items out of the way?

I can't see how I'd just be able to put everything where it belongs without organising beforehand?

(I obviously have a relatively small kitchen and no walk in pantry / store room)

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 17/02/2024 20:00

Person B is right

PeloMom · 17/02/2024 20:00

Person B is correct

Moreorlessmentallystable · 17/02/2024 20:05

Person B here but only because I already packed it in bags strategically 🤣 we have 6-7 bags: the freezer bag, bag of various uncooked meats, all the veg and fruit bag, bag of milk, cheese, yogurt, cooked salmon etc, bag of tinned food, pasta, coffee, another for the cereal, biscuits, crackers, snacks, then toiletries and cleaning products go separately etc

WithIcePlease · 17/02/2024 20:10

A mixture here
Unload the bag and put piles of stuff for fridge, larder cupboard and utility and the other files them away. That way fridge opening and movement around kitchen is minimized
But it depends on how organised you are with packing the shopping- like my frozen is always together, wine bag can go straight to storage area, fresh is scooped off the top as I tend to put 'delicates' on top

Becomingolder · 17/02/2024 20:13

Person B, and all the bags are packed depending on where they go in the kitchen.

TattiePants · 17/02/2024 20:18

Mostly A with a little bit of B thrown in to mix it up. Tins, cereals, packets etc go straight into the cupboard as I unpack. Fresh stuff is stacked nearest the fridge so the fridge only needs to be opened once and toiletries, loo roll etc are stacked on the table. Everything else, frozen stuff, veg, cleaning products get stacked nearest the door to the utility room otherwise I'd make repeated trips into another room.

AnOldCynic · 17/02/2024 20:20

Neither. I unpack each bag putting items in piles nearest to where they are going. Fridge and freezer, larder, baking cupboard, veg drawer, excess/multibuy cupboard, stairs for bathroom things.

Only then do I put away. I have a small kitchen, no table.

AhBiscuits · 17/02/2024 20:30

Person B because the bags are fairly organised anyway.

GinForBreakfast · 17/02/2024 20:32

I am person A. I like to make one trip to each cupboard.

Nightowl1234 · 17/02/2024 20:34

Definitely A. Especially if it’s an online shop, so you can check everything has arrived before you put it away.

JustRollWithIt · 17/02/2024 20:40

I am person A. So is DH. It all goes from bags into 'areas' on the worktop. Freezer, fridge, bathroom etc then gets transferred to said areas in a bundle

chiwwy · 17/02/2024 20:44

I do the same as Person A. I have ADHD and find tasks easier when broken into parts. Having everything on the counter spurs me on to put it all away.

LakeTiticaca · 17/02/2024 21:04

Person B. Why make your self more work?

DoILookThrilled · 17/02/2024 21:08

B

Silvers11 · 17/02/2024 21:09

I'm with person B - but my DH is a Person A type. Drives me nuts - such a waste of time - but it is what it is 😂

AGoingConcern · 17/02/2024 21:12

Assuming a full haul not a single bag of a few items…

Groceries are bagged by where they will get put away. Bag(s) with the freezer items emptied onto counter then put into freezer. Repeat with fridge bag(s), then pantry bag(s).

LumpyKat · 17/02/2024 21:15

I’m person A
