Lighthearted obviously but I may well divorce my partner over this before we are even married 😂

My partner and I disagree on how to 'correctly' put the food shopping away. I won't say who is who yet so as not to bias opinions.

Person A empties the contents of every bag onto the kitchen worktops first - we're talking about 5-6 bags - and only when every single item is on the kitchen worktops do they then begin the process of putting it all away into the fridge, freezer and cupboards.

Person B empties the contents of all bags one by one straight from the bag into the fridge, freezer or cupboard (thus missing out the step of emptying onto the worktop first).

Person A thinks their way is correct because you can see all your shopping first before you put it away. Person B thinks Person A is adding in an unnecessary extra step and taking longer where there is no need.

Who is correct?

I’m a Person A but I don’t think there’s a wrong or right method, just preference on how it’s done.

Lizzieregina · 17/02/2024 18:58

I’d be person B as I’m all about efficiency, but I know As because they have a need for doing things in an orderly fashion.

So I’m team B but I “get” the As of the world!

Maybe you could have a race on different weeks. If course you’d have to make the meals exactly the same to make it fair.

😂

Person A.

Alwaystired23 · 17/02/2024 19:00

I've recently become person A. It just seems so much easier with everything out. It means I'm not back and forth. We have a pantry style cupboard in the utility, so I'm back and forth otherwise. I used to be person B. DH is still person B, but he just shoves stuff everywhere (I think), whereas I organise and tidy as I go.

UnNiddeRides · 17/02/2024 19:00

I’m an A, but my son unstacks the dishwasher in a B manner & it drives me nuts.

ShareTheDuvet · 17/02/2024 19:01

Person A - fewer trips to cupboards/fridge etc.

ohtowinthelottery · 17/02/2024 19:01

Person B. But then when I do my supermarket shop I pack my things into bags so that everything that goes to a particular area of the kitchen is in the same bag. All fridge/freezer things in the cool bag. All fruit and veg together, all dried goods together, all tins/jars together. Makes unpacking much easier and quicker.

OhcantthInkofaname · 17/02/2024 19:02

I'm an A person. I just had a delivery from Walmart+ and unloaded everything (except the cat litter) then put it away.

tiredmama23 · 17/02/2024 19:03

Interesting mix of views!

So my partner is person A, and he drives me nuts! I just empty each bag which is packed in a logical way in the supermarket anyway so freezer and fridge stuff together etc. I am much more efficient than he is though in general, he does tend to take his time with a lot of household tasks that I can do in half the time. Maybe I'm just impatient.

He says he needs to see it all on the worktop first so he can "order" it. He's ex military though and a bit of a stickler for "order". He will also unpack bags I've packed to go away because it's not packed in a logical way 🤯

I guess there a few A's on here though so he's not as unusual as I'd assumed!

A!!!

EddieVedderSingsToMe · 17/02/2024 19:04

At the checkout I put all fridge and freezer stuff into those foil lined bags for life. I empty those straight into the fridge freezer when I get home. Then I go and have a coffee and watch TV. The pantry food gets emptied later when the kids are home from school and I’m busy making tea, so I don’t waste any more “me time” than is absolutely necessary. 🤣 Getting everything out on the counter is a waste of time. I’m all about efficiency.

hedgehoglurker · 17/02/2024 19:05

Neither. Chilled and frozen bags first. I often empty them onto counter to note Use By dates (for fresh meat especially) before storing appropriately.

Ambient goods put away bag-by-bag.

Tree12 · 17/02/2024 19:05

B but I would just be grateful not to have to do it and let them crack on with method A.

SocksAndTheCity · 17/02/2024 19:05

I'm also person A, but I try to pack it properly in the shop so the cold stuff is all together and I put that away first. Then I can organise the rest into the different cupboards at my own speed.

Part of it is because half the time I've forgotten what I bought in the time it took me to get it home Confused

tiredmama23 · 17/02/2024 19:06

Sophist · 17/02/2024 18:55

My husband is person A. It annoys me so much I have to unpack everything or let him do it- we can’t do it together.

This is the mistake I made yet again today - we unpacked it together and I'd forgotten how much it annoys me until he was emptying the stuff onto the worktop again 🤨😂

Person A obviously!
Person A is popping together mental notes of meal plans as they view the shopping. Person B is methodical but doesn't see the need to plan in this way. Person A is very visual in information processing, Person B is technical/logical.

CatchAButterfly · 17/02/2024 19:10

It was obvious your partner was person A when you said “talking 5 or 6 bags here”!

I do either, depending on what I feel like that day!

maybein2022 · 17/02/2024 19:10

A, definitely!

tiredmama23 · 17/02/2024 19:11

UnNiddeRides · 17/02/2024 19:00

I’m an A, but my son unstacks the dishwasher in a B manner & it drives me nuts.

You mean straight from the dishwasher into the cupboards? What other way is there?? Surely not putting clean stuff from the dishwasher onto the worktop and THEN into the cupboards? 🤯 NOOO. I feel like this is a whole other thread!

Maybe I'm just too efficient for my own good 😂

Mazuslongtoenail · 17/02/2024 18:56

Person A. Otherwise you’d be arsing about going into each cupboard a load of times and opening your fridge again and again which then makes it work harder to get up to temperature.

I put things on the worktops in rough zones so then putting it in each cupboard / fridge is really quick.

This. I put all the fridge food / larder food in zones on the worktop.

Then I go through the fridge and larder Cupboard and throw out anything that needs to go out, check dates, clean up any spills or nearly empty packets that my good for nothing lazy teens have put back.

I put any food that needs to be used asap on the top shelf of the fridge so o can see it easily.

Then I remove any excess packaging from the shopping and put aside for reuse / put in recycling.

That way I only have to open the fridge and freezer once to put everything away.

Clearly this is the only correct way to do it 😬

SundayShawl · 17/02/2024 19:11

Person B on the proviso that they have organised the bags so the contents are grouped by where they're going in the kitchen.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/02/2024 19:12

We’re an A family

Icedlatteplease · 17/02/2024 19:12

Neither!!! Heathens!!!

you sort the shopping on the conveyer belt (and trolly) so all the items are already together and sorted when they go into the bags

tiredmama23 · 17/02/2024 19:12

CatchAButterfly · 17/02/2024 19:10

Ah but not if if I was going along the lines of "talking only 5 or 6 bags here", i.e. I didn't give away whether I thought that quantity was a lot or a little.
