Lighthearted obviously but I may well divorce my partner over this before we are even married 😂

My partner and I disagree on how to 'correctly' put the food shopping away. I won't say who is who yet so as not to bias opinions.

Person A empties the contents of every bag onto the kitchen worktops first - we're talking about 5-6 bags - and only when every single item is on the kitchen worktops do they then begin the process of putting it all away into the fridge, freezer and cupboards.

Person B empties the contents of all bags one by one straight from the bag into the fridge, freezer or cupboard (thus missing out the step of emptying onto the worktop first).

Person A thinks their way is correct because you can see all your shopping first before you put it away. Person B thinks Person A is adding in an unnecessary extra step and taking longer where there is no need.

Who is correct?

I have bags of freezer and fridge stuff so I do those first as that’s how I pack them in the shop. Then all other bags are emptied out so I do a mixture of A and then B.

SleepPrettyDarling · 18/02/2024 01:56

It depends. I try to put stuff on the conveyor belt in order so I can fire freezer things (eg) into one bag, veg next, toiletries next, bread and eggs/fragile last. But if I go to Lidl, all bets are off. Im
lucky to escape with my mascara intact.

sashh · 18/02/2024 02:01

Person B is correct for groceries.

And I agree with packing things in the right bags when shopping.

Person A however can buy clothes and spread them out to admire them before putting them in the wardrobe.

MassageForLife · 18/02/2024 02:05

I do a bit of both.

If I've been to one shop, it's all organised so I do B.

If I've been to more than one shop, it's a bit muddled, so I empty all the fridge stuff by the fridge, and the freezer stuff by the freezer. Only when I've got all that together, will I put it away, then I'll do the non chilled/frozen stuff. Some of which might have been emptied on to the counter, if it was in a bag with fresh/frozen food, but mostly it gets emptied straight from the bags.

Lucythecleaner · 18/02/2024 02:07

A

Wanna17 · 18/02/2024 02:38

Who cares 😂🤦‍♀️

Relaxd · 18/02/2024 02:48

One of us is A and one is B. We have been together a very long time and our friends in similar solid relationships also share the A and B difference - we all decided it was key to a good marriage!

Densol57 · 18/02/2024 02:55

Half and half. The freezer and separate fridge bag packed accordingly are then emptied first.

The other non perishable items put on the counter and then put in the relevant cupboards.

HollyKnight · 18/02/2024 03:31

For me it depends on how the bags were packed.

If they are a chaotic mess then I unload it all on the worktop first so I can access the things in the right order for filling the fridge. But if the bags were organised beforehand, then I just need to empty the bags straight into the freezer, fridge and cupboards. In that order.

Nonewclothes2024 · 18/02/2024 06:20

I do both. Some things straight from the bag , other things on the counter first then put away.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 18/02/2024 06:22

If I did what person A does id probably just feel depressed at how little I got for my money 😂

Tatonka · 18/02/2024 06:24

Person C. My husband packs the bags in order (eg bathroom stuff together, freezer stuff together). So bag to place instantly, that's the only acceptable way to do it

MiltonNorthern · 18/02/2024 06:34

I'm an A. But I shop in Lidl so my shopping goes in bags haphazardly as you'd get arrested in Lidl if you tried to take time to organise your packing. I put everything out on the counter in 3 zones - fridge, freezer and cupboard, then I tidy and organise the fridge so older food is at the top ready to be used first.

Yep, I agree with this... I am an A by default because of home delivery... but it also makes sense as you can see what needs using soonest, what needs to go in the freezer etc with the use by dates.

Psychoticbreak · 18/02/2024 07:41

I scan my shopping with a scanner that generates points and vouchers so it is person A for me. I take everything out and put on the island and then scan them all and then put them away.

powerfullymoving · 18/02/2024 07:45

For me it is person B because I don’t have enough space in my counter but some of my family are like person A because they clean and wash stuff - long before covid

sweetpickle2 · 18/02/2024 07:50

I think whoever is kind enough to put the shopping away is correct.

You, evidently, enough to pass comment? 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Interestingly I do this with clothes purchases 😂
But I do not feel the need to admire the Lurpak and chicken breasts. Each to their own 😅

Do you not 'sort' as you bag? So all items kept in the same place in the same bag?

In my house - everyone takes one bag and puts it away!

Yes as per my previous posts - bags are grouped by category when we pack them in the shop (we do Tesco scan as you shop).
However, for some reason, they are all still emptied by DP onto the worktops first.

tiredmama23 · 18/02/2024 09:09

@keirakilaney67

We both pre-sort / pack by category in the shop. No different there. But DP still empties on the worktop first before putting away.

My mind is BLOWN here!!

So wait, wait….you people start putting stuff in your fridge without physically seeing how much space you need?!?!

YOU PACK BAGS IN THE STORE BASED ON WHERE THEY LIVE IN KITCHEN…?!?

But….but….omg….

Mind. Blown. 😶

Picklestop · 18/02/2024 09:12

I am neither, but closer to B. I would take a few things out at a time and put away. I do not need to see my entire shopping laid out before I can put things away, so A seems a bit odd.

TiredOfTHECHANGE · 18/02/2024 09:13

I’m literally in awe of the organisation skills of this thread.

I pack like I’m in the lead in supermarket sweep. Like I’m being chased by FIRE.

It’s carnage.

BananaLlama123 · 18/02/2024 09:13

My husband is a Type A - empties into the worktop first. I am a Type B -
straight from the bag into the cupboard.

We came to a compromise. I do the cupboard stuff, anything that can just get put in its place. He does the fridge stuff where laying it all out first is actually helpful as you can make sure older stuff is rotated to the front. His takes longer so I finish first but we are both happy.
