Irks me to see mums boasting about "childfree" nights out & "kid free weekends away"

Bridgetjoneski · 05/02/2024 12:13

I just find it very distasteful! I have one or two mum friends on insta & know them in real life. But at least every fortnight they have insta posts up about "kid free" night out with dh or "kid free weekend away". They are quite wealthy & both work full time, I just find it very unsavoury. Tag a dinner your hubby but no need to state the kids absense.
Is this a rising trend or just limited to the pair I know? The latest status tagging the latest dinner out was "not a child in sight"...

@bajabaja totally! Even #grownupchats #mumsnightout #coupletime #datenight #cocktailsandchats etc highlights the fact they are having a nice evening out wit adult company without highlighting the fact that being #childfree is the highlight of their night.

#grownuptime#18+#gonnasnoghisfaceoff#romance#timetomakeanotherbaby#lovers#irresponsibledrinking#gonnagetlaidDo you think my kids would prefer hashtags like that?

EasternEcho · 06/02/2024 19:35

@Bridgetjoneski Oh it totally can be the highlight of the night. Doesn't mean those parents love their kids any less. Your idea of crass is just your opinion. You sound extremely pretentious. And as other have said, going by your other threads, your motives are highly suspect. I'm not sure why you posted this as an AIBU,since you clearly just wanted to tell us.

OhNoWhatIf · 06/02/2024 19:37

@Butterdishy 😂#gonnagetlaid 😂

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 19:37

@Bridgetjoneski is it only your working friends that do this? Because it would seem that you're saying SAHM are better than them and love their children more!

You're wrong, very very wrong!

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 19:39

OhNoWhatIf · 06/02/2024 19:37

@Butterdishy 😂#gonnagetlaid 😂

Oh yes! Those great times when you're sure you're not going g to be disturbed by a child waking....... wonderful!

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 06/02/2024 19:39

Had a child free day today and loved every single second.

Sorry, not sorry!

neilyoungismyhero · 06/02/2024 19:39

This is getting tedious and begins to sound like a wind up from the OP.

ZebraDanios · 06/02/2024 19:43

This thread reminds me a bit of a FB post I saw by a friend recently: she’d posted on her son’s birthday gushing about how amazing he was and how proud she was of him and how her greatest joy was being his mum…then said that her DH had taken him out for the day so she could have a break 😆

I hope it is a wind up because if the OP really has these beliefs being spouted on several threads then there is no hope. Other posters have made me laugh (in a good way).

Janbluess · 06/02/2024 19:49

It’s absolutely fine to enjoy a night without children. Being a parent is all consuming and yet again here is another thread loaded with internalised misogyny about how distasteful it is for a woman to dare enjoy having some free time. When will it ever end? Please get a life.

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 19:54

…I had a massage today, my time to myself was fantastic because I had a wonderful, relaxing, rebalancing massage. Not because it was child free 🙄

DiaryOfaTTCer · 06/02/2024 19:54

One of the most boring threads I've ever read on Mumsnet

But you would've fucking hated it with a couple of kids in tow....

Of course you enjoyed because there were no kids about!

Stop being so disingenuous.

momonpurpose · 06/02/2024 19:57

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 19:31

Exactly....

#🦇 💩 🤪

Agreed yet oddly OP never explains how she went from jealousy to having the life she was jealous of in 24 hours. That's an impressive leap. Personally I'm jealous of supermodels but just think 24 hours from now maybe I'll be one day #dreambig #shouldanamechanged #cringe

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 19:57

@BajaBaja that's why selfishly chose a massage and not a trip too soft play! Because you didn't want to be with your kids!

HenndigoOZ · 06/02/2024 19:58

Bridgetjoneski · 05/02/2024 12:31

Well personly if my parents had been telling the world on social media they were escaping from me every fortnight I'd be quite upset.

So if I take annual leave and photo holiday photos with a “enjoying my change of scenery from work” would my colleagues all be upset and hurt?

Janbluess · 06/02/2024 20:00

The OP has replied to this almost 100 times? It must really get to you, the PTA duties can’t be keeping you very busy. You spend a lot of time on your phone for such an outstanding, morally superior parent.

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 20:01

@doilooklikeicare am not being funny but you’re missing the point.
I am trying to emphasise that what I do with my free time is MORE important than how I got to do that. It’s a matter of perspective.

HenndigoOZ · 06/02/2024 19:58

No because you didn't #workcolleaguefree implicating them as the main reason you are enjoying your holiday...
The #childfree brigade are stipulating their night out is best because they are #childfree insinuating their lack of children is making it better.

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 20:03

@doilooklikeicare who said I chose massage over soft play? How did you make that conclusion…

Ελλe · 06/02/2024 20:06

Well I took annual leave today so I could go for an eye test with no kids in tow. It was like a bloody holiday.

mayorofcasterbridge · 06/02/2024 20:06

AnotherDayOfSun · 06/02/2024 14:51

I hear you, OP. People are being deliberately obtuse about this, when you have made clear, repeatedly, that you don't have any issue with people going out with other adults, it's only the crassness of the "childfree" label that bothers you. I bet if there were a hashtag called "petfree" many of those same people would be horrified, lol.

It's well beyond the bounds of my imagination to comprehend WTF someone actually cares about something so utterly trivial, and doesn't just do what most normal would, roll their eyes and get on with their day?!! You can be #petfree if you wish, I'm not interested.

OhNoWhatIf · 06/02/2024 20:06

I'm definitely going to put #colleaguefree on my next holiday because colleagues would see it as funny. The same as my teenager would if I put#teenagerfree. He wouldn't think I didn't love him

Ελλe · 06/02/2024 20:07

side note though: I don’t get why people are in Instagram etc if they get so wound up by the things their friends that they don’t really like wind them up so much?

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 20:07

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 20:03

@doilooklikeicare who said I chose massage over soft play? How did you make that conclusion…

Cause you chose a massage over doing something with your children..
