Irks me to see mums boasting about "childfree" nights out & "kid free weekends away"

I just find it very distasteful! I have one or two mum friends on insta & know them in real life. But at least every fortnight they have insta posts up about "kid free" night out with dh or "kid free weekend away". They are quite wealthy & both work full time, I just find it very unsavoury. Tag a dinner your hubby but no need to state the kids absense.
Is this a rising trend or just limited to the pair I know? The latest status tagging the latest dinner out was "not a child in sight"...

That’s a thought. I bet it’s the two ‘middle class’ mums she’s jealous of.

Are you jealous because you don’t get any child free time? Finding other peoples enjoyment of life-online lol- annoying?! You should pick up a hobby

Are they actually wealthy though, or are they just debt Jockeys?

Why the constant need to say they are child free? Are their kids really such a burden? I just think it's distasteful.

I wouldn’t just say it, I’d have bunting out as well

The obsessive need of people to show case their boring private life publicly on social media irks me - never mind about childfree night out. Who the fuck cares? Have a medal for having a night out. & no I don't want to see a photo of your supper.

Then don’t follow them, keep scrolling, or be on social media?

Capkayser · 06/02/2024 19:02

This is still going on?! well done op for not giving up, and tirelessly explaining what you mean, but I dont think people are listening tbh...shame.

Maybe they are just being lighthearted about it. It is (was in my case) nice to have a few hours solely in the company of adults. Child rearing is hard work and can be excruciatingly boring sometimes. Also full of joy and delight. When I was a young mum I might have said to a friend “oh I can’t wait for my night off” but there was no social media so my comment wasn’t stuck there for ever and for all to see. I was devoted to my children and hopefully not too bad a mum.

I would but I simply can't understand a thing without a # before it!

Odd views for someone devoted enough to the ‘gram to immortalise it in their username

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 19:18

I also think is child free so much more valuable than spending time with your children… I don’t know. I personally LOVE spending time with mine.
And I wouldn’t want them to ever think that they were a burden in any way, even on days I am shattered.
it is more tasteful to post about your free time in a way that it highlights your fun/relaxation whatever, rather than “child free”… just sayin’ :)))

Do you actually think that 91% of the people disagreeing with the OP don't LOVE spending time with their children?

It's not a Mother Of The Year competition. Of course @Bridgetjoneski would win that.

@OhNoWhatIf that Is not what I was saying. :)

Bridgetjoneski · 06/02/2024 19:27

@bajabaja totally! Even #grownupchats #mumsnightout #coupletime #datenight #cocktailsandchats etc highlights the fact they are having a nice evening out wit adult company without highlighting the fact that being #childfree is the highlight of their night.

As I said, your parents probably put in their secret diaries, thank fuck we got a night without @Bridgetjoneski!

Maybe one day you'll find those diaries...

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 19:29

@Bridgetjoneski Agree, the emphasis should be on who you’re spending the time with, at that moment…

Duechristmas · 06/02/2024 19:30

Being child free when you spend your life dedicated to your kids is blooming wonderful. It's still a novelty to us after 22 years of parenting and I'm happy to enjoy it.

OhNoWhatIf · 06/02/2024 19:30

@Bridgetjoneski to be fair I can't take you seriously after reading some of your posts on the other threads.

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 19:34

@doilooklikeicare fair point! 😅 blame it on the kids
