Irks me to see mums boasting about "childfree" nights out & "kid free weekends away"

Bridgetjoneski · 05/02/2024 12:13

I just find it very distasteful! I have one or two mum friends on insta & know them in real life. But at least every fortnight they have insta posts up about "kid free" night out with dh or "kid free weekend away". They are quite wealthy & both work full time, I just find it very unsavoury. Tag a dinner your hubby but no need to state the kids absense.
Is this a rising trend or just limited to the pair I know? The latest status tagging the latest dinner out was "not a child in sight"...

@mayorofcasterbridge you put it so well. 👏

No because you didn't #workcolleaguefree implicating them as the main reason you are enjoying your holiday...
The #childfree brigade are stipulating their night out is best because they are #childfree insinuating their lack of children is making it better.

I just don't get this 😂. The lack of children so obviously does make the night better... At least, until they're old enough to go and order for you at the bar!

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 20:01

@doilooklikeicare am not being funny but you’re missing the point.
I am trying to emphasise that what I do with my free time is MORE important than how I got to do that. It’s a matter of perspective.

Why didn't you take your kids with you then? Since it apparently makes no difference. Perhaps you could have asked the masseuse to shout "mum" in your ear a few hundred times as a substitute, since you were in fact childfree.

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 20:08

Ελλe · 06/02/2024 20:07

side note though: I don’t get why people are in Instagram etc if they get so wound up by the things their friends that they don’t really like wind them up so much?

So they can judge others!

user1984778379202 · 06/02/2024 20:08

The #childfree brigade are stipulating their night out is best because they are #childfree insinuating their lack of children is making it better.

So by this rationale if I'm in a pub having drinks with friends or in a fancy restaurant with my OH, I should expect to be miserable because my child isn't with me? Should I be posting from the pub #wishmyfiveyearoldwasheretomakemyeveningbetter? Or #pubnightswithoutkidsareboring?

Pretty sure social services would having something to say about me dragging my DC out for last orders.

EasternEcho · 06/02/2024 20:08

@BajaBaja That's hilariously semantic and splitting hairs. "time to myself" but not "kids free". As if people can't figure it out unless you explicitly state the words #kidsfree. 😂This is pretentious nonsense.

The lack of children will be making it better, there is no shame in having a night to yourself. In fact it is really healthy.

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 20:09

@BajaBaja why didn't you take your children with you? That's an excellent question!

LolaSmiles · 06/02/2024 20:10

OP is posting from her frame of reference. The fact that she is triggered by such a small thing. Also adding so much info about her “friends” working full-time, 40 hours a week etc. There are definitely some deep seated issues behind her post which comes across as quite unhinged.
It does seem to go a bit beyond finding some social media posts annoying.

And I actually agree with the OP that is find that sort of posting pattern that's always focusing on being childfree quite annoying, but for me if someone feels better about their night out because they've explicitly pointed out they left the house without a child it falls in the "you do you" category, along with other small irritations on social media. It's not worth being that bothered about.

Isn't it..

I had a massage because that was good. But by complete fucking coincidence my kids weren't with me!!

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 20:11

Waw everyone being so obtuse. Twisting words. Of course everyone knows a massage is children free…. Do I need to shout out LOUDLY am child freeeeeee!!!!!
Or can I just not appreciate the great massage for what it is. Damn me.

Münchner · 06/02/2024 20:11

A night at the pub or something similar usually is better because it’s kid free isn’t it?

Because I can enjoy relaxing with a friend and focus on myself rather than having to stop what I’m doing every ten seconds to break up a play fight, wipe a bum or answer a question about owls.

it doesn’t mean I don’t love my kids.

there’s no shame in it.

BajaBaja · 06/02/2024 20:12

@doilooklikeicare you really don’t get it do you! 😅

Thanks God this shit show of a thread is almost over.

Now OP can go back to these #mumfree children.

lookwhatyoudidthere · 06/02/2024 20:12

Trends are trends for a reason - adults like to be shot of their kids once in a while. I think unsavoury is pushing it, boring, ok, predictable, yeah l'll give you that. But distasteful? I reserve that for people can't allow others some joy.

You need to either quote or @ or we don't know who you are currently having a dig at, it's all rather #confusing, as there a few possibilities!

😂

I bet her kids have loved not being helicoptered for the 24 hours she's been on here! #getalifemum

Brats4kid · 06/02/2024 20:14

I wish someone would have my 2! It's very rare I get to spend time alone with my husband without the kids.

No. You have proven my point! You should be enjoying the company of your friends or Dp..
If your in a fancy restaurant #mumsnightout #wineingandining #cocktailsandchats
Tag about your happiness about the company you are presently with. There is no need to post #childfree as if that overrides the company & dining experience you are supposed to be enjoying.
