To think that very few normal people are going to vote for a rapist. Any Trump supporters here? Can you explain your thinking?

I don't understand how this man can be a serious candidate. I didn't understand how it happened the first time. Surely normal people are not going to vote for him? But I know he does have supporters so I would love it if any American Trump supporter would be brave enough to come and explain their point of view, as it is totally incomprehensible to many of us...

Please be kind to people with different view points Mumsnet - lets try and hear them

When was he convicted of rape?

catagoryA · 27/01/2024 15:35

Two courts have agreed he raped Ejean carroll, and one has ordered him to pay her $83 million for calling her a liar about it

Have you ever sat on a rape case as a member of a jury? It’s depressing- most people seem to think such things don’t happen and women make
it up. It was an eye opening experience for me.

I dont think the American voters think about his behaviour- they hear Make America great again and probably in the U.K. if a politician said ‘ the country is in a mess let’s put the Great back into Great Britain’ lots of people would vote for it, irrespective of the candidate.
I think that with politics now people seem to like mavericks and in some cases see Trump as sticking it to the system- bizarre maybe from our viewpoint but his swagger will endear some people ( some people in the U.K. voted for a buffoon called Boris who got stuck on a zip wire before the London Olympics !!)

It also costs a lot of money to run for the presidency- which negates some people from running

I am looking forward to hearing from American voters - I hope they mention which state they live in as this may also be interesting

Well considering its a choice between him and Biden their pretty much fucked either way so I guess people will decide whether they want to be fucked by a nut job woke senile twat or a incompetent ego maniacal twat 😫

What you mean this gentleman? 😷

CormorantStrikesBack · 27/01/2024 15:40

I think people will be convinced that the Trump case was a politically motivated witch-hunt. Sadly. Why on earth they can’t find someone better than Biden to go against him I have no idea. But the democrats are handing Trump the presidency on a plate.

Hmmmmaybe · 27/01/2024 15:41

They’ll think it was a corrupt judgement.

OH THE IRONY.

TTindigo · 27/01/2024 15:43

People don't care about rape and sexual assault. Unless the victims are men.

mynameiscalypso · 27/01/2024 15:43

Cases like this reinforce Trump's popularity with his core voter base.

Well democrat Marianne Williamson is a good alternative. The US would be sensible to vote a woman in for once.

Yes, but the OP's point is that nobody else has the foggiest idea why. Care to enlighten us?

I'm not sure I'd call her a good alternative but really anyone would be better than Biden (same could be said about trump) unfortunately he's stand for a 2nd trial term

mynameiscalypso · 27/01/2024 15:51

@PocketBattleship Because a lot of his supporters are misogynists and/or think everyone's persecuting Trump and/or that all other politicians are part of a secret cabal of paedophiles and/or think that the government (and judiciary) interferes too much in the lives of everyday Americans.

ssd · 27/01/2024 15:52

Op, you should look at what you wrote "why do normal people vote for him"...have you seen his core voters?

LividBreeze · 27/01/2024 15:52

The core voters don’t care what he’s accused or convicted of.

They believe it’s either a witch-hunt, a lie or woke ideology.

I’d posit that for his fans, this sort of thing enhances his appeal.

It’s every bit as bonkers as it seems.

canttellyouwhereorwhatido · 27/01/2024 15:52

Trump could literally mow down an entire town with a semiautomatic and have it plastered over the internet live.. and those who support him will still support him. This is the danger with populism.

Never forget. Hitler was elected ! If we don't learn from history then we are destined to repeat it.

Zealots are zealots. Both left and right.

I feel sorry for the average American who has to choose between a complete nut job and a senile doddery old man. Is there really not any other choice within the entire population of the US ?

BoohooWoohoo · 27/01/2024 15:53

I’d imagine that plenty would vote for him to avoid Biden as POTUS.

mynameiscalypso · 27/01/2024 15:53

Re age, I saw this week that it was 31 years since Clinton's inauguration and he's still younger than both the (leading) candidates for the presidency.

Mementomorissons · 27/01/2024 15:54

Biden has been accused of rape though not officially found guilty, like Trump. Isn't it obvious why people vote for who

If you think Trump is going to prevent your personal freedoms being eroded and prevent war then you're probably gonna think his allegations were fabricated by his rivals.

If you think Joe Biden is gonna make the country a fairer place to live and he'll prevent war, then you're probably gonna think his allegations were fabricated by his rivals.

GrumpyPanda · 27/01/2024 15:55

@canttellyouwhereorwhatido
Hitler wasn't elected. He was appointed by presidential fiat without having a parliamentary majority. Really wish people would get their history straight.

BoohooWoohoo · 27/01/2024 15:58

Talking about conspiracy theories, I’m surprised that QAnon is still a “thing”

Madickenxx · 27/01/2024 15:58

I don't know much about Trump but given Russell Brand's business is still doing well, I don't think sexual assault / rape accusations will stop some people supporting these men.

Why not? Genuinely curious…

She seems like she’s got more sense and more leadership than both of them put together (not hard I know).

Silverbirchtwo · 27/01/2024 16:16

Trump supporters don't think he can do any wrong of any kind. The perfect man and President, and anyone who says different is out to get him and persecuting him. Trying Trump for anything is absolutely beyond the pale and is just vindictive and politically motivated.
